How losing my job changed my life for the better!
Have you read the book Die with Zero? This is gold!
I miss the feeling of having a purpose. Somehow, that defined my existence and have no sense of purpose is eating me up alive. After 43 years of having purpose it has all gone and I feel empty. This is the worst time of my life. The question at the forefront of my mind 24/7 is: What am I still here?
Yes. All of those. The kids are raised, the house paid off, I've achieved all of my professional ambitions, and it just feels like time. Mission accomplished, next chapter. One maybe weird reason also- I want the daylight back. All day in a windowless office for 30 yrs, leave in the dark, return in the dark...I want to end that. I'm only hanging on to finish a home update or two with payroll, and then move on.

I love this video. I am adding a link to it in my own upcoming video, which is a casual look at retirement transitions. I hope my followers will take advantage of what you are offering.
Ok with creative and doing . The love of my life was suddenly taken from me . Not surrendering my phone .
I am so sorry for your loss. Do what you need to do to comfort yourself. Self care for now.
@ - Looking forward is essential , otherwise, grieving the loss sucks the life out of you. So video helpful to begin to tru to regroup.
Hello ma`am i am sabor Are you looking for a professional youtube thumbnail designer? Lat me know please thanks.
Great video today. Thank you so much.
I am glad you enjoyed it!
I retired from teaching high school math 4 years ago. I am the person that needs to stay busy. One way I stay busy is to be a substitute teacher in Special Ed classrooms. The kids are fun (mostly) and that gives her the time to do the shopping and house cleaning without me under foot. The positive side is that I bring home more now than I did pre retirement so finances is a non issue.
Good for you!!! That’s awesome
My husband is 65, resistant to change and anxious about money, with no interest in retirement. I am 63.5, planning to retire in a few months at 64.0 years. Our house, cars, and the kids’ college educations are paid. I have $650K in IRA and $100K in a savings account, and will get $1600 per month Soc Sec and I’m on husband’s employer’s health plan. In recent years, I redid the roof, exterior house paint, septic system, walkways, added wood floors to the whole 2nd floor and paid kids educations down to zero. I am ready! I have told him I respect and accept his choice not to join me in retiring. Our house is 4 BR with a long steep staircase and a huge lawn and garden. I want to sell the house and downsize to a smaller home with no stairs (for future safety) and a pool or lake. He won’t consider it. I sadly accept that I can’t force him or convince him but I am very frustrated. He doesn’t want me to retire because of the high cost of property tax and upkeep on the house. (We could afford to both retire and still keep the house but he is just very anxious about money.) I expressed that I only have one life and I am retiring with or without him. He will have to live with his demand that the expenses be kept higher than his comfort level. I will accept his choices and let him deal with his consequences. I told him that if he is going to make me miserable in my retirement by complaining frequently about me retiring and the costs of keeping the house, I am prepared to leave our 30 year marriage to have peace. Since he’s been fretting about money for 30 years, and we’ve always been solidly upper middle class and responsible with money, I expect his fretting to continue. I don’t care anymore if he chooses to fret, but I don’t want to hear about it.
i only just found you. I thoroughly enjoy your fresh, open attitude and wish you and yours the very best in retirement.
You made my day! Thanks sooo much. Great advice as well!!!
Great tips, particularly about time apart! It’s important to have things to talk about but also to develop friendships outside of your marriage, the unfortunate fact is that eventually one spouse will pass first and the other will need emotional support. I know two widows with very sad lives because they didn’t keep their friendships and are now solo. My husband retired from full-time work 13 years before me (I retired 6 months ago). He works part-time 2 days a week and I’ve asked him to continue this for at least another 6 months. I am the putterer in our relationship and really want some time to unwind from a stressful and demanding career and spend some time getting things in order at home before we head off on some travel adventures. Fact is, marriage is communication and compromise both before and after retirement. Love your content! 💕
Awe. You’re right about one spouse passing and how difficult it is! Sounds like you guys are definitely on the right path. Thanks so much for commenting!
Nytol !
Thankyou❤

Investments are the roots of financial security; the deeper they grow, the stronger your future will be."
The deeper your investment roots, the stronger your financial security will be in the future.
Exactly! With my adviser, I’ve cultivated deep investment roots, strengthening my financial security for the future.
I would love an introduction to an adviser who can help me strengthen my financial roots.
I'm as retired as I'll ever be at age 59.. I'll be working p/t forever. Currently working one 24 hr sleep shift per wk saving $800 a month towards retirement. Only 50k saved. Married 40 yrs. Fixed expenses are 1k a month, food not included. Live off-grid, own our cabin on 4 acres.. Solar & propane. E-Car & E-bikes for transport. Grow about 25% of our own food. $ isn;t my main worry. We have a son with schizophrenia so health is my main concern. So much so it's not worth it for me to ever take my Social Security, it will kick us off the free healthcare which you never need to worry about denials. So we'll live forever on his $1730 a month income and any $ I earn. It's all good. We're fine. No debt.
Sounds like you have a great attitude!!!! I love that! Best of luck!
Good video. Can agree with mostly all points. When the job isn't fun anymore and you're not there to make ends meet, it's time to go.
Agreed. Thanks for commenting
Retired at age 39...I was so bored, I went and got two more degrees in 3 years, and while in school I was bored and opened an online business...the problem was I went from 80 hour weeks, to zero...no financial issues, I have a retirement, and some investments, that will easily hold me to when inflation rises to much and my social security will kick in my 60s because I will likely be dead before 70 so not waiting. My biggest issue is boredom, so I make work for myself to pass the time.
Great insight into yourself. I just think it sounds lonely, maybe join a non denominational church where you'll have fellow brothers & sisters, an eternal family
Since Dec23, I've being focused on getting financial side sorted. Done although won't mature until July25. Now I need to focus on my health so that I can enjoy it all.
I don’t miss it four years in still living my best life rather than before retirement my purpose structure and routine is just enjoying what I been missing! peace And still Absolutely Still Loving Retirement! Started at 60 sure I think about it when you been on a job for so many years but now 64 I have enough between Grandkids my chilling time also this is my Best life I don’t owe no one no time doing a little part time just few hours a day and soon will go back to my full retirement which I feel like I still am just waiting on affordable housing am back to retiring full time
I work for the world's largest trucking company. None of our drivers or retirees have made it much past 70 years old. Scary
Wow. Very scary.
Boston - Freedom Trail, Quincy Market and the Boston Tea Party ship (I took the tour when visiting on a cruise)
I was so impressed with the city!! Great guess.
Financial planning and retirement strategies are crucial, especially in today's economic climate. With global economic fluctuations and uncertainties, it's essential to have a solid plan in place to protect your financial future.
It's crucial for individuals to diversify their portfolios, seek professional financial advice, and stay informed about market trends to navigate these challenges effectively.
Well with the ever-changing global economy, tax laws and regulations can also vary, impacting how investments are taxed. It's essential to stay informed and plan retirement strategies accordingly.
You need to get a financial planner or expert on investments to aid diversify your portfolio to commodities index funds, digital assets etc, to provide illumination and guidance in the financial markets.
Agreed, I've always delegated my excesses to an advisor, since suffering major portfolio loss early 2020, amid covid outbreak. I'm now semi-retired and only work 7.5 hours a week, with barely 25% short of my $1m retirement goal after subsequent investments to date.
If you don't already know, acquiring assets with proper market direction overtime will provide more returns than doing it all at once, Thankfully, I can attest to the success of this approach aided by professional guidance.
West Edmonton mall
Way to go Shelly!!!!
Not retired … yet; already not eating out as much, bringing lunch to work more often and creating a list of places to visit all over USA and Canada for a start. I look forward to naps, puttering all over the place - garden, yard, house. Reading much more, sitting and staring at nature, watching the birds, plinking around .
Sounds fabulous!! How much longer until you do retire?
Miniapolis
Minnesota
Ohh there is one of these in Minnesota but this one is in Edmonton, Alberta , Canada.
Where were you 10 years ago??!!! Our health is so good, love being Snowbirds, but the Canadian $$ is killing us this year!! Friends & social life, maybe a great hobby are the best, help to keep you active & healthy!! And be prepared for change, whether it be traveling, health or family, whether it be a happy or sad change!! Be prepared!!
That Canadian dollar is horrible this year! Ahhh. Love all the rest!
Strongly considering downsizing? I live in a high taxed state. All my friends are moving to N.C. and south.
Maximum lifespan in Mississippi is 70. Retire ASAP. 💨
Wow. Great advice
You can knock at least two of these "problems" off by joining a gym: meet new people and have a schedule (group classes). My jobs have NEVER defined me or given me "a purpose." What excites me about retirement? Sleeping in, taking a nap whenever I want to, relax in the mornings over a latte outside in nature, and I don't have to answer to anyone else.
Love these. Thanks
As I’m about to retire, I don’t wish to empty my diary to find its full again. I want to wake up in the morning and my activities be guided by the weather. Historic houses and museums and cinema when it rains. Walking and cycling if dry. None of this needs to involve others and will be last minute, but I will still find someone to talk to.
@ sounds like a great retirement
I'm with you, I'm a week away from deciding to do what I want when I want. No grandiose plans, I just want to be.
@@bgood5907sounds fabulous
I’m 63.5 year old and retiring in a few months. I ve been planning the transition for a year. Through open communication and listening, I learned that my husband, 65, has no interest in retiring before at least 67 and he would prefer that I wait until 65. We compromised. I am going to retire because I am ready and I want to. He is going to continue to work because he wants to. Since I also lost interaction with my best friend due to dementia gradually over the past two years, I will need to make new friends. For social opportunities, I plan to join clubs and organizations that are aligned with my interests and hobbies.
Wow. It sounds like you are ready and prepared. Good for you! That’s exciting.
Best comment yet!
Spending money just because I have it seems pointless. I agree with most of what you say. I think spending on experiences and quality for things I need makes sense. Taking care of oneself is to me a full-time job. It's one I love.
Experiences are great. Love this attitude.
It's interesting to listen to your video. We are going to AZ for the our first Winter away in retirement. Also, I am in search of a seasonal campground to have a trailer on. It's fun that our interests are the similar. We both are retired at the end of this year.
Love this. Please keep us posted!!!
Good insights. I’m about 2 years out from retirement. Thanks!
That’s exciting. It will happen before you know it!!
Exactly. Retired 4 yrs ago in 40s. The math is easy and pales compared to psych, connections, routine and purpose portfolio. Excellent💪
Who is funding your Healthcare?
I agree, the psychological part can be difficult.
Good info. Thanks.
Thank you for your channel, just found it! I’m sharing these with a friend who is close to retirement for his benefit. Great stuff!
Thinking 🤔...
Halifax NS?
Right province, wrong city! Thanks for the guess.
Love this
Awe thanks. You made my day!
I'm so glad I found your channel. Was it hard leaving your Grandkids when you started your snowboarding life style? We are starting this adventure for the first time this coming Winter for 3 months. I know it will be fun, but I was wondering how you adjusted being away from your Grandkids.
Thank goodness for FaceTime! It really helps to stay in touch!
Showing support 😊
Boston
Right on! Great guess.

Very adventurous! Cool!
