Those of us old enough to remember this remember it was 1966 and popular during Vietnam, so many of us so far away from home. It was so poignant, almost a theme song for the era. I remember listening to it in the barracks with the black GIs and their cool music they would play 🇺🇸❤️
My dad played this record over and over when I was a kid. Also, I always thought Cannonball looked like my dad -- he was also a big guy like that, similar mustache. And he met him once in a club in NYC (my parents lived in Brooklyn until I was about 2 and they were always going out to hear jazz ) I play this whenever I want to remember my father.
No elevator music in nursing home for me!!! Going to have tunes like this. Soul, disco . etc. One of nursing homes I am familiar is ran by elderly nuns. They may have to kick me out!!! lol
1966 I was six years old when this song was out. This was definitely my mom's favorite song before she passed. She even had this album. I want to dedicate this great piece to my mom. RIP mom!!!
😞😞😞😞😞😞😞I never thought these days would go away. But they did. Thank! God! For the great music these wonderfully greater talented musicians and singers left behind.👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😪😪😪😪😪😪😪😪
My cousin Monique sent me this song we're going to play it at my uncle's a repast this was his favorite song it is so inspiring at first I didn't know what she was talking about then I remember hearing it throughout the year thank you for great music💕
Sometimes We Are Not Prepared For Adversity When It Happens We Are Caught Short & We Don't Know How To Handle It. Sometimes We Don't Know What To Do When Adversity Takes Over. But I Have Advice For All Of Us. I Got It From My Pianist Joe ( Wish I Knew How To Spell His Last Name) Who Wrote This Tune And Sounds Like What It Is Suppose To Say When You Have That Kind Of Problem. Its Called "MERCY MERCY MERCY"
I was a big fan of Cannonball's == what a surprise and a delight that this was a cross-over hit for him into the pop charts in '66. Lots more names and faces discovered him from this song and were able to go deeper into his other tunes.
Just think, our family lived down the street from these special men. My mother and grandmother taught at old Lincoln Highschool in Tallahassee with his parents.
I remember going to jazz club with mommy in Chicago when I was six years old seeing this group live, I learned a lot about how beautiful music 🎵 and the master of their craft is supposed to be!

One of the best instrumentals of all time

An emotionally-rich classic composed 52 years ago by Joe Zawinul. Listenable as ever..

Zawinul
Why the hell did they cut the intro to this song?! It’s one of the best lead-ins out there!
I was a big fan of Cannonball's == what a surprise and a delight that this was a cross-over hit for him into the pop charts in '66. Lots more names and faces discovered him from this song and were able to go deeper into his other tunes.
His Son Nat Adderley Jr Was Composing Songs At 11. Thats Really Following In Your Father's Footsteps
I was 5 going on 6 years old when this song came out, late 1966, early 1967. My sister bought the 45.
Now this is what music is all about!!
Just think, our family lived down the street from these special men. My mother and grandmother taught at old Lincoln Highschool in Tallahassee with his parents.
The best. From 1966 Club De Lise Chicago with Zoe Zawinul on keys .
Always a welcome listen in our house
My mom played this on the regular ❤😊
It says this is only for amusement purposes. Well, hearing music I haven't heard in half a century definitely amuses me!
You know it's good with 84 likes and NONE for the dislikes.
What an awesome groove.
This is so deeply ingrained upon my youth that I had a dream last night in which it played throughout.
Cool tune, cool dream.
Joe Zawinul gave Cannonball an added dimension/Pointing Forward/Same on Country Preacher...
Mercy, Mercy, Mercy Ohh I love it 🥰
This Album Sold 500,000 Copies Which Is Unheard Of Back Then
Absolutely brilliant!
Always great! Have mercy!! ;)
Just a bunch of COOL CATS having a conversation!!! #JAZZ🎼🎵🎶🎷🎺🎹
You Go, Cannonball! That Sax is soothing!
NPR sent me. (AFAIK they still use this track as a filler between segments on FRESH AIR and other programs.)
@ivery5000 👠👠 9/15/2021 Happy Birthday Cannonball Adderley Alto Saxophonist 🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Great tune!!
My favorite meditation song.
Amazing how much 60's stuff holds up,huh?
No school like the old school..Jazz..🎷🎹🎺🎸🎶🎵🎼💖
There's still a whole lot of dogshit from the 60s, just like any other decade. But there's always good stuff, too.
This song makes me think about life
all i can say is wow
Me too m, Have Mercy this is truly a classic
Wolf of Wall Street brought me here ...
Kkk yeah
I remember going to jazz club with mommy in Chicago when I was six years old seeing this group live, I learned a lot about how beautiful music 🎵 and the master of their craft is supposed to be!
Played this song in middle school marching band
Just So Of Those Of You Who Never Heard The Actual Song. Those Words About Adversity On Mercy Are Cannonball's Own Words Not Mine
I sincerely missed them listening to this... Cannonball's words are the perfect build-up to this masterpiece!
"Then, I was a licensed broker at last, ready to make my fortune.
My first day as a future Master Of The Universe--October 19 1987.
They called it Black Monday, no shit. By 4 p.m. the market had dropped 508 points, the biggest plummet since the crash of '29."
Give me this tune and all kinds of great jazz over the disposable so-called "music" of today.
Most of Today's music and the artist can be dismissed and disposed of!
Just listened Ms. Aretha Franklin' son sing a rendition of the song at her funeral. 8/31/18.
The song you heard is a Marvin Gaye composition but this one is composed by the late Joe Zawinul! They are totally different.
いい曲だね。😁😘
Willie Mitchell's version is on the same level too.
Wheres the intro, goddammit??
good
ME TO.
Great version; however, I've always loved the Buckinghams' version.
