Another reason that horizon is being picked for the lego spinoff is that the lego horizon sets sell extremely well. Lego is primarily an art medium. Most people buying expensive Lego sets are buying them for the parts within. Official sets are still the cheapest way to get pieces in a lot of cases. These parts are used in amazing art pieces which are taken to lego conventions and other things. However, there is no wrong way to use lego. I've seen it used as a case to hold in place material for making plastic molds for models and other such things. It is also a fun toy, of course.

One thing I'll say about Astro Bot, which is currently my most anticipated game. Astro's Playroom was a very 'compact' experience. You could finish it probably around 2-4 hours. Together with my kids we have over 90h of playtime on that game. My kids wanted to find everything, and once they did they started to speedrun the levels. They still play it from time to time. I do as well. It's a game that doesn't pretend it's anything else, it's absolutely delightful, extremely fun to play, in no small part thanks to the haptics. And that GPU song is still in my head. I'm sure Astro Bot will be even better.

  • @kevinkijowski5980
    @kevinkijowski5980 6 месяцев назад +27

Horizon being picked for the Lego game isn't "odd" or anything like that when you consider the fact that the robots in Horizon started out as Lego like models during development. That was how they tested the breaking of robot parts mechanic. Even if you omit that fact, it still isn't strange that Horizon was picked when breaking parts off of the robots is a central mechanic of the game and that is probably not hard to translate to a Lego game.

I think it is important to note that Lego Horizon is not being developed by Traveler's Tales, the developer who has made almost every other Lego game based on other properties that has come before. Skill Up really, REALLY over-thought the Lego Horizon game, although the best part is 'have memorable characters that we all know and love' while the footage shows Rey and Kylo Ren... I genuinely don't know if he's trolling us or not. Made a lot of weirdly bold claims about how people feel about Horizon and its various elements, too.

Lego Aloy would definitely have an overblown hero complex and hammy self narration that other characters comment on and she completely ignores.
Her Focus should have a little AI voice and she'd treat it like a star wars droid as if it was her sentient best friend.
She'd also frequently do the "Batman dissappears on Jim Gordon trick" as soon as she has the mission objective to represent her constantly ditching her allies to do everything herself.
(I quite enjoy her character by the way, I think she has flaws that make a LOT of sense with how she grew up as an outcast treated basically subhuman by people who refuse to learn about the world around them.)

While I do understand and appreciate the the adult perspective on both games. I would say the reason for lego horizon is pretty straightforward. Remember when you were a kid and before we cared about story, world building, gfx and gameplay? We played super mario bros, duck hunt, and Tetris for the exact same reason they are going to play lego horizon. It's colorful, fun to play, and build lego dinosaurs with their siblings or mom/dad. And they'll have fun and share memories the same way we did.

The answer as to why Horizon is the game chosen for a lego game is simple: toy sales.
The machines are big ticket items in terms of lego kits.

I think Horizon makes the most sense for a Lego game, but man, could you imagine how cool a Lego Bloodborne game could be?
Just think of how wonderful the gothic architecture and eldritch monstrosities could look, when made of Legos. That sounds delightful.
Not sure if parents would really wanna buy that for their kids, although... maybe? But I just think that would be so cool.

i'm not surprised Horizon was chosen as a Lego game. Tallneck Lego set was incredible, and it's clear that lego probably went through designs of the other machines. Conceptually, it's a good match.

I love how, even after sellling over 20 million copies between both main games and getting multiple GOTY nominations, people still refuse to admit Horizon is even an ok franchise. Every discussion of Horizon comes with an air of dismissiveness, even after it's proven to be successful and popular time and time again.

It's been said in other comments but I think Horizon LEGO can work because:
    - Sure, no compelling characters (I say this as a massive Horizon fan), but Aloy is a great character and easy to caricature (they have a chance to laugh at themselves with all the critiques of Aloy as a saviour-complex mega-hero that every character is is love with), plus there is so much fun to be had by making the robodinosaurs show-stealing personified foils
    - The Horizon world is so LEGO-able. No doubt these decisions are made with LEGO corp at the table and I'm sure they are super keen to roll out a robodinosaur range.
All that said: I'm keen for Astro Bot.

Astro Bot looks freaking fantastic!!! I am glad at least Asobi Studios was kept. Surprisingly enough, Horizon Lego Adventure looks more fun that the mainline games. It oddly fits the Lego theme. I hope Sony and the rest of the industry go back to the drawing board and implement more of these family friendly games. I think the industry has had an obsession with M rated stuff for so long aside from Nintendo. I hope they can continue to diversify from mostly just having cinematic blockbuster games.
