Used to listen to these to fall asleep as a kid and my imagination went wild- like a movie in my head! Listening now as an adult for some childhood comfort to send me to sleep 💤🥰
Oh yeah. I'm still chasing that very same thing. And I don't care who knows. I had enough room. I would set up a big tree house and hang out in there. And listen to the stori'm just a big kid inside
I'm 47 years young and absolutely adore Enid Blyton. My fave is five go off to camp, and of course the folk of the faraway tree! My comforting cosy little world still exists just for me!!
I'm 39 and just discovered these books, I plan on getting a box set of them, how I missed these is beyond belief because it's right up my alley, still love adventure books! Right now I'm reading one called The Coral Island by R.M. Ballantyne which despite being written in the 1800s is still wonderfully and delightfully engaging
Hi , I am Mário, I red quite everything when I was a child from Enid Blyton, in Portugal, but I red in portuguese, and now with 63 years old, and retired, with time, I decided to read in English

As someone who immigrated to th U.S. as an infant, my grandmother in the U.K. used to send me "famous five" books..... they lined up with the Hardy boys, and Alfred Hitchcock and the three investigators that I usually read nicely.
I always enjoy these kinds of stories but sometimes I don't enjoy when the actual trouble starts with the bad guyes because it ruins my experience of day dreaming about the adventures of the island and how nice it is. Sometimes I just don't like to get into the thriller danger part

And good old " CLEAR OWFFF" Mr Goon 😄 i still choose one each night to fall asleep too at age 40 😊 they're brilliantly done and there's just something comfortable and relaxing about them that makes listening to them at bedtime the perfect time especially parts when they might be scoping something out at night time in a storm or in the rain 🌧 comforting I suppose. I remember reading a collection of books in primary school called " Tim and tobias " " Tim and the hidden people " i think one was called written by Sheila McCullough and I would love these on audiobook if anyone knows where to find them or if anyone could upload them . I have recently listened to the three audiobooks read by Kate Winslet here on RUclips - The Enchanted Wood,The Magic Faraway Tree and The Folk Of The Faraway Tree - it brought back memories of my childhood and one of my favourite books which i was reading long after I had been nagged into reading more mature books.Shame though some names have been altered - Dick,Fanny and Dame Slap are now Rick,Franny and Dame Snap...irritating and unnecessary I thought.

The way that Uncle Quentin talks about how he is going to spend his wife's gold! Why is he called Quentin Kirrin and yet Kirrin Island was his wife's and the wreak was her g-ggrandfather's. Also Julian, Dick and Anne have Kirrin as their last name in some stories and Barnard in another. Lots of inconsistencies. Never the less, I still enjoy the Famous Five stories.
Only someone who never went boarding school at boarding school at 9 years could cope with a bully in tn there dorm could like boarding like boarding school. Lucky Enid. Blyton
It just occurred to me why the food the children ate is always mentioned and described as plentiful. The first famous five book, this one, was published 11th Sept 1942. Food rationing started on 8th January 1940 and didn't finally stop until 1958. Most of the foodstuffs mentioned are ones that were rationed. Vegetables are rarely mentioned, but they weren't rationed.
Thats cool. When I was a kid this story was available on cassette...yes I'm that old🤣....This was my very 1st audio storybook and I would listen to it at night over and over until I fell asleep. I'm so glad to see someone else enjoying The Famous Five as much as I do. I was thrilled when I found it on here. I also liked The Secret Severn as well, they're worth a listen if you havent already tried them. Happy listening 🙂🙂🙂
