    I feel like in recent years gaming in general has found a new problem where the higher skill ceiling a mechanic has, almost the worse. It splits the community in 2 with the people who now have hours upon hours to play and master the mechanics and the people who either have less access to good gaming equipment or just less motivation or commitment to the game as the other people. This can be seen best in fortnite with building, a mechanic with an almost infinite skill ceiling. I feel like this is where stuff like “touch grass” comes from as the skill ceilings become higher and higher.

    Fortnite didn't look much like my thing, but I wanted to know what it was all about like 2-3 years ago (I participated in the Marshmallow? concert event thing). My experience was exactly like the one the video mentioned: "I shoot someone and he builds a tower in 2 seconds." Since that was the point of the game, I watched some tutorials and spent like 2 weeks trying to learn the ropes, but ultimately the building aspect of the game wasn't fun for me.
    Thinking about it, after uninstalling, I asked myself: "How can this game be so insanely popular while revolving around such specific and difficult mechanic?" It didn't make sense to me. I believe it had a lot to do with just becoming trendy, because I couldn't see "spam building" having such universal appeal.
    My prediction at the time was the game would die because of that, due to the very thing it made its gameplay unique. The skill floor had become too high for new players to get into. It seems Epic reached a similar conclusion when looking at all the data they collected.

    Incredible video and 100% the reason FN is how it is currently. The player base just got too good. With that said, no builds is destined for the same fate. I watch you stream daily and you’re a prime example. You constantly drop 15+ kill games in no build pubs. You’re getting put in a lobby with players, equivalent to what we were in C1,S3, and your movement/aim/game sense are just far superior currently to others in your lobby. Inevitably the skill ceiling is going to climb and as the saying goes, “rinse and repeat”.

    • @captaindestruction9332
      @captaindestruction9332 Год назад +7

      You cant really compare the two and say Zero build will become the same. Zero build has much more going for it. Its easier to practice and become better at, lower skill ceiling etc. Saying people will stop playing based on people getting better is like saying people will stop playing Warzone or other no build BR games, it just isn’t true. The reason Fortnite lost people with building is the skill level rose and the ability to get better remained high.

      @@AussieAntics fair enough, although I do think epic is testing who plays what by putting tournaments at the same time. I do feel like a video using the Fortnite tracker participation data across modes/regions would be a more compelling narrative. For example, using ZB cash cup data in NAE , participation went from 9k teams in week 1 to 7k to 6k the rest of the season. For all the hype, streaming, and marketing pushing zero build, it has led to a decline in participation this season. Also, not a kid, but thanks for looking out.

    They’ll keep it as both I’m pretty sure. The community is split down the middle almost.
    The reason I play Fortnite is because it’s the hardest game I’ve ever played consistently. I have a drive to want to improve my building and editing. With no builds, the focus is on aim, good use of mechanics and items, and positioning- which you can get from any BR or really any shooter.
    As far as tournaments, I don’t really care. I’ve really never been close to ever winning one, so no skin off my back. I definitely wouldn’t watch them though. No builds is boring to watch.

    We all know what is the problem with this game and its not “sWeAts” nor “BuLdINg” its the META of the game being the same for 3 years!!!
    Its not about building its about Fortnite META being only and only on piece control and builds! And the first question that pops up to your mind is that “then how should they change that” I tell you! Fortnite started to nerf any item that could help you win a fight except for building! They removed one shot headshots on snipes and all shotguns! They removed traps ,boogies, stink bombs, shadow bombs these items are not OP! These are not uncompetitive! These items require actual skill! You can boogie yourself and in builds it require actual skill to actually boogie people! Same as other items that they vaulted! People like to act like the only thing that is skill is box fighting and its the most idiotic thing I ever heard in my whole life since box fighting is just ping 😐 99% of the time player with better ping wins 😐 how is this competitive! And I say these stuff as a player that this season will be his 5th season in a row in champion league!
    The solution to this problem was balancing the game with building ,editing ,aiming ,indirect fire items (like traps, boogies, different times of nades!) not bringing dumb zero build that only seperate and divide the community and kills the game even more
    Plus with more balanced play style more people can actually start playing fortnite and genuinely enjoy the game and I mean the real game not this dumb zero build thing! People with good aim can enjoy the game! Smart people can enjoy the game AND people who love building can enjoy the game just as it was in chapter 1!
    Pro players ruined the game they complained their way into making the game in a way only a 12 year old 0 ping no life can win

  • @derd3

    A year later and this conversation is still relevant. I started playing zero build and only played zb for over a year. Then I started getting xp/quests thru Team Rumble, a build mode game for those who don't know. Now, I occasionally play BR because my build-skill-based matching is so low that I can kind of compete in pubs. Also, the pacing is different in Builds, players are less likely to shoot at you if you're just going about your business, whereas zb players will push out to storm's edge to get an elim for no good reason. In builds, the edge is less contested; big fights happen, builds remain and players move to zone. I can pick thru loot piles and rarely see anyone until zone closes. It has a different, more casual, vibe, until you get to endgame where build skills set players apart very clearly. In my lobbies, there might be one or two people who can build a multi-level structure effortlessly; the rest of us build noobs are happy to throw up a wall or a box to heal in. It *can* be fun playing at this level, but I will say there's an awful lot of toxic "trash" talk out there amongst literal children and young adults, as well as a few older players. I figure they've never really competed physically at any level, in any game, where you come to understand that you win some, you lose some; if you lose in real life, it's because your opponent outwitted you, outplayed you, wanted it more...in video games you never know who's cheating and who's just good. Plus, there's the whole aspect of streaming where anyone can watch you fail if you choose to. Just a thought or two.

    The gameplay experience in Fortnite while building feels intense, almost as if watching a video of a skilled builder where visibility is limited to quick placements of structures, screen shaking, and sudden appearances of enemies for brief moments before being eliminated with a triumphant "I just hit a clip." This type of gameplay may not be as entertaining to watch compared to the no-builds Fortnite mode, where the gameplay mechanics are more visible and engaging, making it more enjoyable to watch or play. Personally, I prefer the no-builds game mode over building in Fortnite.

The problem nowadays is the skill gap is insanely skewed compared to the early days so it’s very unapproachable if you’re just now getting into the game unless you just don’t have real life responsibilities. Nobuilds saved Fortnite and opened it up to many more people prolonging the life of the Battle Royale mode.

FYI, I'm not trashing on the game, I have massive respect for legacy is has and the skill required (whether its muscle memory or not) to build and edit while fighting, but I couldn't handle kids building the great wall of China while I shoot a bullet at them, and then getting killed😅.
    Jumped into no build mode since I downloaded it and it's so much more fun than other battle royals. For one thing the audio works, and nobody is running around with custom loadouts (forcing you to buy the base game). I already bagged 1 win already on solos with 10 kills and got plenty of 7+ kills games. My previous experience in sweating out warzone and apex has definitely helped my aim tbh

  • @xwebbey
    @xwebbey Год назад

    listen no build is cool for the casual community nobody can deny that, but this is what happened, the game became overly too popular to quick. content creators made it absolutely explode. lots of players have came left over and over again. some more casual, some more competitive. it has been evolving for years, some for good and some for worse. only OG’s that played back in the day play no build because it reminds them of the days when they could hop on, and building wasn’t advanced at all yet so it was basically no build anyways. everyone says the game isn’t the same but when all these people cue into a no build match they immediately think this is good old fortnite, the problem is most people didn’t evolve and they use excuses to say the game is bad (even tho epic has been feeding its downfall) and isn’t the same anymore when it’s literally the same concept game with a different loot pool and more advanced building/fighting. i’ll probably get shade for this comment but this is a fact and nobody can tell me otherwise…

    Totally agree with all this. I may not be a fan of no build just cause the maps not made for it. I also don't like it because builds I versus people way above my skill and then in no builds kids way under my skill. Apart from that I do see no builds being the future but I think it will suffer the same fate just cause it will lose popularity due to it being a videogame and all games go through the same cycle. I will also say people fell in love with the game because of the building but new people prefer no builds, so why doesn't epic make a compromise. If I'm not mistaken back in the day there was a game mode called ground game, where each player had a max of 70 mats total across the materials and reduced ammo count. I feel like this could be good if they bring it back because it has the building but the player base will have to player smarter with more strategy but knowing Epic they will never add this.

Even if no builds IS the future of fortnite, I'll keep playing build mode. Good for the new content that No Builds get, it's a new gamemode that doesn't have what most casuals don't like (building) so yeah, sad to see that build tourneys does not have the same views it had at the beggining

    The third person shooter genre is so frustrating. Everything is either slow and clunky "tactical" shooters where you snap to walls and sit there for an eternity or... fortnite with its vomit a building out of thin air mechanic and maybe think about shooting someone once in a blue moon. While I appreciate the incredibly high skill ceiling of build mode, the very concept of dealing with the enemy building a tower for instant cover whenever they want was always really annoying and dumb. I actually don't think the sweats have much to do with player decline, just the implementation of build mode in general is annoying regardless.
    It's a weird esoteric skill you have to learn to just to push the skill ceiling enough to even compete. The skill is so unintuitive and esoteric that a lot of players, both casuals and sweats, would rather just not have to learn it, so they play no build instead.

      Almost no one, but existing players are willing to waste countless hours of grinding the game just to be a little good with building, the potential is too big for it's own good. Complicated and Hard shouldn't surpass a certain margin, as many people just want to chill after work or school and those who want to hardcore compete isn't playing Fortnite a lot recently, many even left the scene in the recent years.

    The only reason we play Fortnite is because of building. All we want is the old lootpool and gamemodes to ACTUALLY PLAY yet epic continues to neglect their playerbase... People are quitting everyday, no content for streamers and youtubers, no gamemodes to play, extremely boring lootpool, queue times lasting multiple hours in smaller regions, and an overall upset community continuing to make this game more toxic than it already is. This game has simply become a chore and the only reason people play is so they do not become washed.
    It's time to move onto something new, epic seems to care more about monetization over longevity and legacy.

    What broke fortnite is the poorly implemented SBMM. I’m old, I’m slow, I struggle to build and played the game for fun, my KD has never been high, or my win ratio. But everytime I load up I’m in with very very good players, and I once went to play with friends and was in a sypher PK game. I’m nowhere near that level, so why would I play a game where there is a very limited chance of making top 10, let alone 1st
