Just a bit of well-intentioned feedback - I'd recommend getting into the content sooner. A two min introduction is a long time to wait for most viewers so my guess is a significant amount of people are clicking away before you even get to mistake #1.
Again, not trying to be an asshole, just want to give some helpful/honest feedback. Especially because the rest of the content is well thought out and high quality.
Ok I know I made a joke comment about how awful I am at playing (and I am, just terrible) but after watching this video and 2 others from your channel I actually won 2 victory royales in one night!!! What the heck!??
SIR, you really are a master at this! 🙏🏻 (seriously I can't believe how well this advice worked)
Way to execute!!
@@brianching4358two minutes really isn’t that long
I'm actually 44 years old now and haven't played Fortnite for over 3 years. Recently, I joined a game with the kids, where we were playing no build, and I performed poorly. However, I decided to watch your video and applied your techniques during some late Fortnite no-build training, lol. Today, I asked the kids to let me have a go. Let me tell you, the outcome was amazing - I achieved my first solo victory with an impressive 15 kills, and the kids were going crazy. The match was insane, and it became the talking point around the table. I thought you should know that your video helped.
Great work!!
I'm a 38yr old dad of 4 & I play fortnite quite regularly with the 3 oldest. I was so happy when zero builds came out because that's where I lack talent. It makes me happy to hear that other dads are playing fortnite with their young'ns.
I’ll be 44 next month and I love playing with my adult son and his friends! We have such a great time! I’m excited to show them what I’ve learned! Glad to know these techniques work!
this is so precious!
awww
1. Loot quick and know what you're after.
2. Hold utility while running for quick cover/getaway.
3. No crouching in open. Be a crazy moving thing.
4. Swap weapons efficiently.
5. Prepare for end game: equipment and rotation.
6. Use third person camera, and right shoulder peek.
7. No 50/50, get good initial damage or use cover.
8. Keep watching TobyWanShinobi.

My other advice on weapon swapping is swapping weapons as you change your distance. By this I mean as I approach a POI where there are buildings or cover, or more opportunities for close or indoor encounters, I'm swapping off my AR to my shotgun. So, swap your weapon based on your surroundings and the distance of engagement they are going to force on you. I've had lots of losses in the past, getting stuck with my AR indoors because I forgot to swap to close range weapons as I entered a POI or building.
Same thing for when I'm leaving a POI, swapping back to my AR or my movement items as I'm transitioning back to the open areas of the map. This goes hand in hand with remembering to reload your weapons. Make sure you are always swapped to the right weapon based on situation and location. Emergency swapping to the right weapon on the fly will also get you Elim'd against experienced opponents.
I also do this and have never seen anyone mention this.
Another thing I do is go to my shotgun before getting In a vehicle. If someone blows up my car or I want to push someone I am ready to go. If I hop out to long range attack them my ar is one click away but if it's a close range fight I want my shotgun ready to go.
For sure, I actually meant to mention this and somehow forgot - its an excellent point.
Yeah it's just about automatic when you get used to all the weapons of the season or mode. Brain constantly has me switching guns every 2 seconds when I'm moving through POIs until a scenario finally happens.
I've never spent a dime on FN, I worked three chapters to get a battle pass for free, but I'll always drop likes and comments for the algo. You're top tier bruddanem.
Thank you bruddah
Fantastic. Watched 5 other of your tutorial videos. Not only has my confidence got way up, this evening I've played 5 ranked matches with 2 wins, 1 win had 10 kills, a 2nd, a 3rd and only 1 blooper (old habits die hard). It's great to have someone who isn't "insanely hyped" giving structured detailed advice. Thank you again. 🎉
Haha thank you. The Fortnite content creator "always hyped" thing annoys me too.
I didn’t even realize I have been using a lot of these tactics, mainly through years of trial and error. I think my biggest takeaway from this was confidence in pushing someone below me and keeping mobility and heals, especially for OG Fortnite. I tend to do really well and will get to 10 players before realizing I don’t have necessary heals and utilities to go toe to toe with the final players, especially with scenarios that put me at a disadvantage. This video has boosted my confidence in my playstyle and made me more aware of the usefulness of the loot available.
Another good tip is to keep your pickaxe out when looting so you can spam pickup everything without dropping anything
That doesn't really make sense mate
How would you drop something without meaning to? When looting, you only drop what you need to drop...
And if you're referring to right when you land from the bus, you already don't have a weapon so that's kinda a given that you'll have your pickaxe out
actually he’s talking about ammo this is a trick used since chapter 1 after you kill the person swap to ur pickaxe run through the loot and you’ll get all the ammo and stack heals/ utility this is a habit for more og players
@@shanebreezy4453if I am on my shotgun, I can swap it by error with a weapon on the ground when my purpose was to pick ammo
@@shanebreezy4453 if youre holding a gun out and spam E you will swap your gun for something else
doesn't it auto pickup up heals and ammo though?
Great video especially about the weapon swapping. I've been working on that lately an it makes a massive difference in gameplay an confidence
Once again, I'm glad to see I've been following most of your tips already. I will say, however, that the "take a step back behind cover" answers one of the questions I had for a long time. I noticed that some of my close-quarters fights were crushing defeats, but others were dominating victories, and now I know how I can more easily replicate the latter. All that's left is to leave anxiety behind, which has been hard for me to do lately. Also, one thing that's helped me immensely is running two guns instead of three. I used to undervalue the importance of deployable cover, so now I use the extra slot on the Ice Wall, which is insanely powerful in all formats of ZB. The one thing I wouldn't recommend to other players is to ditch their shotgun like I have. I understand the risk of not running a shotgun and I'm fine with it. I'd say it's a carry-over from my Apex days, with my favourite loadout in that game being sniper/SMG (Volt/Sentinel for those curious).
I also have a tiny request: would it be possible to add the Junk Rift and the Rift-To-Go to the training grounds? I'd like to use them after the glory that was Horde Rush. Either way, this was another banger of a video, and a good reminder of how I should be playing.
No shotgun is skitz mate. That's the most important gun in fortnite.. I'd rather have a grey variant of the worst shotgun in the game than have two legendary guns of other types.
I agree with the 2 gun loadout though, the best in my opinion is a hard hitting shotgun like the sharptooth, and a twin mag AR because it's good for long distance and close distance spray (hipfire) to follow a good opening shotgun shot. It's very versatile
Do u still play apex?
@@gracedianaschmidt7635 Rarely. I'll most likely return to it after I'm done with ranked urgent quests and survivor medals.
Cheers Toby, tips as always bang on. My common mistake was getting glued to uneven surfaces while crouching- for some reason you can’t stand up-like you got underneath them.
Yes. There is so much value in these videos. I just came across this channel. I am currently working on trying to become the best player I can be - in hopes of becoming a pro or streamer. I made that goal bc I thought this niche was seriously lacking, catering to the basics and real logical methodology. Something someone can wrap their head around. You do just that. Keep it up. You deserve your success. Thank you for the content!
Thank you so much. I am a really good player but I haven’t been prioritizing good peaks AT ALL. I played two zb pit games with the constant thought of always having right hand peeks and never fighting in the open and I surprised myself how much better I was thanks you. I feel like a pro now.
Good video. Love the right shoulder peak details.
As soon as you said you were using an eye tracker I subscribed. That's such a good idea for showing people how to scan surroundings
Training with visual audio has surprisingly sharpened my ability to pinpoint the source of sounds before I visually identify them. This means that within a split second of hearing a potential player nearby or behind me, I'm already prepared to take the first shot. However, if you feel overwhelmed by the direction of incoming noises, it can significantly impact your gameplay.
Great stuff! Following your tips and going through the journaling helped me out A LOT! I’ve gotten the most crown wins this season (21) but only 3 of those are solo. The majority are in duos and squads. I’m a great teammate and tend to do the most damage and elims. I plan on joining your clan in the future because one of my goals is to reach Unreal rank in solos eventually! Keep up the great work!
Brilliant...thanks for this. I'm constantly carrying my start/mid game weapons into the end game and top 5ing constantly. Getting to storm circle first is something I'm failing at also. Top players are already there waiting to melt those that aren't. Thanks so much for this
There's a few i already follow especially the weapon position and the weirdo movement, but that shoulder peek is going to come in handy. Thanks for the tips. You just earned a subscriber 👍
“Coming out quickly” “shooting” “going right back in for cover” “kinda play with it” this man amazing 21:40
Amazing tips man! Learnt so many I didnt know! One I find very helpful that would make a fine addition to your tips is developing familiarity with an average of how many bullets SMGS, pistols, shotguns and AR's normally have, so you can keep track of when your opponent is close to needing to reload. I often pick that moment to engage in combat to blast opponents when they are about to run out of ammo and they find out it's now too late to reload and/or swap weapons. Sometimes it's a matter of practicing the timing on when to jump into a fight when it's too late to even swap weapons. I have learnt most people naturally shoot their guns till the clip's empty rather than switching to a loaded weapon instead.
Thanks for the map codes - super helpful.
Just brilliant advice as always. Your so good at refreshing our brains with basic & addvanced advice. Thankyou Toby ❤
Thankyou wan, liked and subscribed.
Very Interesting some of this you speak of i already discovered on my own but other I didn't know about. Thank you for taking the time to make this video
i had noooo idea you could configure inventory slots!! i'm a super mega newb so this is all very helpful. thank you!
Thank you so much for those tips, they made me see where i was making mistakes, now i will train them and get better
Just getting into Zero Build as a new player. This has been extremely helpful! Thanks!
Discovered Toby recently and learning so much I didn't know in a short time than playing for a long time.
This is helpful, I remember playing fortnite a few years back and stopped and now I'm getting back into it, and I started playing zero build because I don't remember how to build, thanks for the info
Another wonderful video. Thank you. I love seeing what I need to do to improve and what I’m doing right in the same video haha
I really appreciate this - my game play has completely plateaued and I'm making all of these mistake. Have plenty to work on. Thank you
Absolute total newbie here. Just downloaded FN for the first time two weeks ago. Great content. Helpful and clean.
Another amazing video. I also have to point out the super helpful comments from other players. 😊
Great video/commentary. Explained it really well.. appreciate cha!
Thank you for this very helpful video.... I'm going to try and put all these to use
Thank you for posting this video. I learned that I can correct the errors I have been making.
Excellent video. Sharing with all my Fortnite friends
Watching this on my lunch break, tagging to re-watch and pay closer attention later on. But I can already tell I'm making 4-5 of these mistakes. Thanks for the info.
Great video. . I am an absolute Fortnite noob and only discovered your channel today. Your content is amazingly helpful.
There’s so much detail in what you post so I’m definitely going to have to keep coming back to gradually build my knowledge and hopefully my skills😂
You explain it all so well and strip it down so that even novices like me can follow and understand
Thank you 🙏
Thank you, very helpful. Now I've got to watch the rest of your videos 😊
I have to say that ever since I've been watching your content, I've been making much more improvements in aim and overall gameplay. I really appreciate it and just want to say keep up the great work!
Thank you! Stoked to hear that 👍
Super helpful! Thank you!
Love this video. Thank you!!
Great info! Subscribed!
applied these strats and already saw my gameplay improve within 5 matches, incredible video 🙏
I just started playing like two months ago. You answered so many questions for me bruv. Wow. Im blown away
I played in chapter 1 for about a year and then stopped playing for 5 years 😭 now I've been playing for almost 2 years and I didn't know about half of these things
Your videos are really helpful. Thanks bro.
Some of the best Fortnight content available! Nice work Toby!
Dude this content is amazing! Every new topic you talk about I realize another mistake I'm making without knowing
so useful! thank you for explaining!
I'm a newbie who just installed Fortnite like 3 days ago. Thanks for these tips, I'm sure they will help me out a lot
Love the eye tracker. Very helpful. Thank you for all you do.
Thanks Moe!
Great video thanks legend. I never knew that being too close to a wall when right shoulder peaking hindered you. Interesting
i really appreciate this channel. no trolling, no bs just straight to the point with very helpful tips. thank you good sir
Glad I could help!
Thank you very much ❤
thanks for the codes and I really like these deep analysis 25 to 30 min videos 🙌🙌
Thanks! Yeah, I just feel like if I don't take the deep dive and make it a 20+ min video, it just doesn't educate as well... Even though it goes against what works best on the algorithm.
Your Tutorials helpt me sooo much. Thank you
stoked to hear that!
I’ve mentioned this before, but your instruction is very clear and easy to both understand and implement.
Thanks for the support as always Corey!
Really good video thank you so much!! Legend
Good stuff Tobi! I need to send this to my teammates....
I've been only playing fortnite 8wks. Since watching Toby I've gotten much better.
I also find playing with better players help.
Because I have to keep up.
Ive been playing for a year or so now. I still play on an old xbox 1 with less than 60fps and ive surpassed my friends in skill thanks to your easy to understand content and ive in turn helped them be better so thank you 💯
Another Banger 💥 thanks Shinibi!
Thanks Toby!
Great tips, thanks
I feel so called out! 😅 thanks for this very helpful video!!!
I just subbed 🎉
Amazing call outs bro 💯
Great first tip. I spend matches looking for the gun shots and get to them ASAP. If you win a fight, get away from that spot ASAP or you will be 3rd partied.
the best fortnite content creator that ever existed.
For sure, but evolvejake is pretty close.
Agree with you he makes relevant content to help you grow and get better
Evolvejake copies Toby, also Toby goes way more in detail.
@@Quantum_IdealismI’d of agreed with you about four months ago. But it’s videos like this that truly separates shinobi from jake
@@crazy_foal8191 they're both in the same space, their content is going to be similar. Toby goes into more instructive detail, but some of Jake's spectating videos are so valuable. You can watch and find enjoy both creators.
I’m not even going to exaggerate this, my son and I we incorporated these tips into our games today and we won way more than we lost. It was game changing for us. Thank you.
Have mobility out is something I never do. Makes so much more sense to have utility and n hand Thankyou so much🎉
This is perfect thank you
This video was great, i learned a lot
I play with my nephews and nieces and the main video game crime I see younger players not knowing about is COVER. simple awareness of having cover by using the terrain to position yourself in the right spot while you loot or change your weopons around or checking the map or a quest.
I see them standing in the open far too much and I keep telling them to always be moving around, NEVER make yourself an easy target. NEVER STOP your feet from moving around unless you have to, and THEN try to find a building to do that in so that you always have cover while you're doing a simple thing, so you don't get eliminated just reloading your guns, or healing up.
It's very important to always be mindful of all the ways another player can take you out.
Stay moving around, don't forget to duck or crouch down too.
I throw people off all the time by mixing a run, jump, and duck. I have been having more luck just ducking down, and never jump when it's a 1v1 to get the #1 victory.
Cover. You have probably heard this word but not really understand it all the way.
Cover doesn't just mean to duck behind a rock.
You have to remember that people can eliminate you from ALLLL directions!
Some people are high up on mountains and hills, some people are down below by a river or cave.
What I always do, is pretend like I'm trying to take out my own player. And think of all my weak spots of where someone could get me from, I try to always a cover, like a tree when I'm getting close to a mountain where I could get sniped.
And when someone is down low, I never poke my head over the edge in the same place because they could headshot me the very second time I try it.
And when you practice this, always remember to never stop moving, don't make yourself an easy target.
The preferred item slots. Dude that's going to be so helpful. Learn something new everyday
great content bro, appreciate it
You can also use your ads to mark items out in the open to see if there's something you even want, and it'll be marked for faster acquisition during scoop time
Definitely some take aways here, thanks!
I just started playing with my son. I use a controller... and I only play Zero Build's since the building aspect of the game I have zero interest in. These tips are amazing. Thank you. Subbed
One of the better videos I have seen, a bit long winded, but I would rather that than not enough information. I am going to try the further away from the wall thing on the right shoulder peaks, I seem to do terrible in those combats.
Thanks for the tips 🔥🔥👍
Congrats. Very good RUclips channel and useful video. One of the best.
You made a solid piece of content. Congratulations. I hope to someday be able to do what you do
Lol I just realized that I just needed to take 3-4 steps back for far shots with right shoulder peeks 😅. I guess we can learn something new everyday.
Thank you so much this will help me alot 🎉
Can't speak for other modes or ranks, as I play solo in the unreal category, but after playing hundreds of ranked matches into the top 10, I found it's very rare to reach the small storm circle shown in the mini-map here. It mostly always ends before the storm updates. I have also seen great positioning overcome by mechanically talented players. So the advantage isn't as huge in the competitive tier as perhaps it might be in the lower ones.
Also, rarely is there healing available in end-game. There's no point in carrying it because there's no time, it's a waste of a DPS or utility slot, and most players don't bother to carry them by then to loot off of. You have to think of damage prevented being damage healed, and that would've been a great tip to have included in this video.
Wow once again everything I do thank you for the great video Toby I really really appreciate you
Glad to help Randle!
One of the most helpful things I've heard from an advice video recently is about the subconscious overconfidence you get when you crack someone
in your head you're thinking "oh, they're cracked! Now I just gotta finish them; it'll be easy" not taking into account the fact that you have another potentially 150 health to deplete before you actually win and it kinda makes you play a bit lazier.
Stay focused and get the kill, never let your guard down or let up your offence
Was that from my 9 ZB tips video?
that's entirely possible
also thank you. Your video on right-hand peeks unlocked something in my tactics.
I used to use them sometimes, but now I constantly look for peeks and play from cover and I've been winning 10x as many fights.@@TobyWanShinobi
Mobility item out when traveling not in cover was the tip I needed. Top tier content!
Glad to help!
Very Very thanks for your great Videos!!! helped me much!! =)
Glad to hear it my friend ❤
I was wondering what the hell that red x was. Thanks for all the effort you put into these videos!
This helped me alot
I just got my first earnings in ZB last weekend and these videos still help clean up my gameplay and create better habits! 💜 Keep up these bangers brother!
saw you on the leaderboards gg
Congrats!!
Thank you my friend, great work!
I never knew about the right shoulder peek. I will use it for sure. The weapon swap I allready did but for a different reason. Because I often died because I was forced to reload and the other plater then had an easy shot on me. Now I weapon swap and reload my weapons when the area is clear
Hey Toby, great info , 1 question please , if im always aggressively hunting , should i use slot 1 for auto shotgun and slot 2 for an SMG or ? Thanks
That's amazing.. I've been playing since chapter 3 and I have failed so many ways.. and I've done everything wrong.. Thank you for the video on this means alot.
Dude has the best tutorial zero build vids I've seen. Great job!
Glad you like them!
learnt alot but ima need advice on that 50/50 combat because im on champion rank and thats one of the biggest scenarios in game
Reposition if possible, if you can't then you just have to hit more shots and dodge better than the enemy.
Id syay for champion your gonna have to take 50/50s but just try to limit how many scenarios you put yourself, champion is where all the sweats are so 9nly way to beat a sweat is to play like a sweat lol
Also breaks from the game affected me hella i took a month break for work i get back on for the first time and was dying ober and over before i use to have lethal movements im the player thatll maneuver around you making them spin in circles till they lose track pf your charachter
Biggest thing I’ve learned from Toby is to avoid the 50/50 fights. If you’re constantly getting in them then rewatch your games and see what trends you find that keep putting you into those situations.
Avoid them , easy to say but really it help
I generally dont support ppl i never realy knew what it did, however i know now and you have made me a much much better player so i will be supporting you from now on. Thank you for your content im actually getting top 5 if not wins or 2nd but always top 5 now so thank you man.
Awesome to hear that dude!! Thank you 🔥❤️
