  • The dolly in this transformation is not one of my own. A girl my sister knows through work asked her to fix this family heirloom up. The poor dolly was in desperate need of some help..her leg was dangling and she was filthy!

    Shelley, I'm so glad to see you wash the stuffing! I also do that because it grosses me out to think how much grime accumulates there! I like the washers for stoppers; finding the right size of grommets is often difficult for me. When the wig has those scraggly hairs, I cut them, too. I thought that maybe the strands stretched. (I believe a video you made told me that.) I always learn from your videos and appreciate it so much! Such a kindness restoring this childhood treasure! Thank you for taking us along!😊

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      Thank you so much! Yes the stuffing is probably the grosses part and definitely needs a deep clean. Sometimes their hairs do get stretched out (when they get kind of kinky and thin looking), so cutting those or gently pulling the whole strand out is the way to deal with them.

    She's so cute now! Your restoration videos are always so relaxing to watch, and I'm glad this girl will get to be played with again. I love the girl of today dolls, they're so nostalgic for me (in fact, when I was a kid my best friend had this exact one!)

    She came out so pretty! Its always amazing to see dolls be transformed from icky to beautiful! Growing up we didn’t have alot of money, so most of my dolls were second hand rescues, so I've grown up learning to fix up dolls to play with. I personally don't mind when a doll has a "defect" or "injury", because i think it makes them unique and i end up incorporating it into their story, like a mermaid doll i found who was missing one arm i decided she'd lost it to a shark attack, or a 80s barbie with the light spots all over her legs, it's now vitiligo. My kirsten has silver eye really bad in one eye, and is starting in the other, so when they turn totally silver it'll just be her new eye color. I haven't seen anyone using washers before on the limbs, i heard about the knot method, and the little metal crimping things, and of course the hair ties 😂 but the washers is a new method to me. Do they work better than the metal crimps? I bought a whole pack of them off Amazon awhile back to restring all my ag dolls since they're all second hand and were quite loose or getting loose.

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      Thank you! It's really cool that you would incorporate your dolls' defects into your story lines as a kid. I definitely remember having to get creative like that too. When Colleen's Katie doll's arm fell off we put it in a sling and said she had a broken arm ha ha. Yes, I think the washers work way better. I have some on dolls that I restrung 12 years ago, and they are still holding strong. The metal crimps made too much noise and got loose for me, so I stopped using them.

    • @kelseypeterson5172
      @kelseypeterson5172 3 месяца назад

      @@AThousandSplendidDolls well so far I haven't had any issues with the metal crimps in my dolls, but I'll definitely keep the washers in mind if I get anymore ag dolls or if the ones i have get loose again. Thanks for the help! And it's not just something I did as a kid, I still incorporate their issues into their lives, since i still rescue dolls.😂 I don't usually do body swaps unless it's absolutely necessary, so most of mine have some kind of damage or defect.

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      I've had a few used dolls who had the metal crimps fail (the factory ones). They split with age, and the legs/arms in question fell off. It happened to my Felicity, named Emerald. Both her legs fell off while I was gently washing her, literally right after I brought her home from the thrift store. And then it happened to my Julie, named Jolene, who was actually separated from her arm altogether (someone gave her to me, and I had the arm for a month before the doll).

    • @kelseypeterson5172
      @kelseypeterson5172 3 месяца назад

      @@AThousandSplendidDolls oh wow. Well all my girls have gotten replacement crimps because I restrung them all one day, well except kirsten, she's surprisingly not loose yet despite being one of the older ones. But hopefully since they've been replaced I won't have any issues for awhile. And like I said I'll keep the washers in mind and try those if any problems come up!😊

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      I think it largely has to do with how tight they are clamped down--if it's done too hard, then they split (which later leads to them coming apart). If you crimped them down but didn't use excessive pressure, they should be totally fine :)

    Amazing transformation :) I think she actually looks quite lovely with the silver eye, it gives her some extra personality :) I haven't tried to restring my AGs yet even though some of their limbs are pretty loose, especially my Lanie's limbs. I hope I get more confident in the future to actually try and restring some of them.

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      Thank you so much :) No, I won't remove the eyes because there are SO many things that can go wrong. You can actually damage the socket itself, and that can make it so the doll's eyes don't open/close properly.

    If you are every tightening neck stings please be very careful, because I made the mistake of pulling too much and ended up snapping the neck strings on my Marie Grace 😭 I cried

    • @AThousandSplendidDolls
      @AThousandSplendidDolls  3 месяца назад

      That happened with my white body Samantha because they have really bad quality neck strings. But it's not a big deal--you can always slide a zip tie in its place, or get another string :)

      I use bungee cord that you can get at any hardware store or even places like Walmart (it's the smaller sized ones). They are really inexpensive and super strong.
