Great video and kudos on the obvious route planning! One point of question: Would it have garnered more data if you had gone full costume to really ascertain the amount of area actually required? The paniers require less maneuverability that a full gown, corset, etc would have demanded.
Thanks! Music is: 1. Sunshine and Clouds and Everythng Proud - Clap Your Hands Say Yeah 2. Waltz 2 from Jazz Suite - Dmitri Shostakovich 3. Awake on a Train - Múm
@kenlo77 the skirt is actually based on hooping from the mid-georgian period, when it was considered fashionable to expose the ankle. also this project isn't highly concerned with feminism or social constraints of fashion. the skirt is meant to represent the bubble of personal space we create for ourselves.
yes, today`s buildings are not made for dresses as these...so sad....that is why they have such big halls in the castles..you need space for 3 with these kind of dress.great music in the background. at the moment i am would like to do a 6 hoop pettcioat and a dress too...know any good tutorial on how to make a good dress ?
@darcy888 Well done! wow you did a really good job. Very inovative to use plumers plastic pipe & canvas. Where did you get a canvas sheet that size? Did you make a pattern or a how to video by any chance I would love to make one or buy one.
@niamh2739 Hi, thanks, it wasn't too difficult, I made up my own pattern. It was also relatively inexpensive because I didn't use traditional materials. The material is canvas, and I couldn't find strong enough boning, so it is actually 1/4 plumber's plastic pipe.
this hoop is wonderful. How long did it take you to make and how much did it cost you? Have you thought about selling one? If you are willing let me know
Hi will you make a video on how to make it or give us ideas on how to do them ? would be very appreciated . I have been looking for one but cant find one . thank you !!!!!!
So, you just put on the crinoline/hoop skirt to test the amount of space it'll take up in public? Then you went to a random party and walked through the entire place? That's hilarious! XD
This is not a hoopskirt architecture, this is how to walk in a hoop skirt. I thought this was going to be an instructional video on how to actually make a Marie Antoinette style pannier
Hi, the video is called 'hoopskirt architecture' because it was a part of thesis i did for architecture school about clothing defining personal space. The skirt was also super easy to make; it is an imitation of grand pannier style but i made up pattern myself through trial and error and used unconventional materials, so it isn't at all historically accurate but i was happy with the result. i have no intention of making another one because i already have one, but i could upload a picture to show how i made it.
Hoopskirts can be awesome. Wearing one can make you feel really powerful since everyone has to get out of your way. ^_^
I have some hoops skirts but where did you get this one? I have been looking for this style for a long time
Really interesting. Reminds me about the movie 'Orlanda' when she is first reborn as a woman.
That's the kind of hoop skirt I need for a Glinda costume!
Great video and kudos on the obvious route planning!

I am so glad, we are not force to wear them anymore
Thanks!

I love your hoop Skirt!!!!
did you use spiral steel boning for the hopping or a different product sewn into the fabric?
@niamh2739

@rainbowcollin2001 - it's actually PVC plumbers piping fed into sewn channels.
