Wow, what a great tutorial! When I started thinking about making a hoop skirt, I thought it would be so difficult. You have just shown a very simple, affordable way to do it! Thanks!
I've been looking for a great tutorial such as this. There's only a few weeks before my wedding. Thanks soooo much!
finally a perfect video. thanks. just a week left.
my god. you sewed it by hand. you are a goddess.
THANK YOU FOR THIS TUTORIAL!! T_T thank you.... thank you... at last I can do this hoopskirt with my friend!! T_T I am so happyyy!!
then the bottom hoop.so using thos two previously cut pieces as your guide-measure two more.you want a visible difference for the lengths so do each a couple inches shorter then the previous without duplicating the length of the top layer.yes the string seems like more work since you measure them later anyway, but it can always be folded and tested without an exspensive damage to your tubing. once happy with lengths and measuring is done; add together for purchase of the length of tubing.
this is a great simple solution. well done!
great way to explain this.. I love the idea of using the belt
Very helpful! I'll probably use this tutorial to make a hoop skirt for a costume I want to make :D Thanks for posting!
seriously a genius idea!!
great tutorial! exactly what i was looking for! thanks so much!
Thank you so much for this tutorial it was really helpful and me and my friend shall be using this to make ours :D !
you took the time to do a diy on hoop skirt. i wish u had given a little more explanation than u did. :(
really easy to follow and I can't wait to make my own:)
you are going to have to measure.bottom hoop-take a non-stretchy ribbon or string and make a circle around the area you want, essentially your skirt will be that wide at the bottom, then measure length of the string. top hoop-should be at widest part of hips, measure around wider then your hips with a string and measure length, though for easier sitting i find sewing it slightly lower then your bottom helps, but u still need it to be that measurment. two remaining center hoops will be smaller...
(It's okay ^^ I just saw the reply) That's what I ended up doing, and was able to figure it out, but thank you for replying! ^^ (That's scary cause I did the same exact thing! o.o)
(I am so sorry that I didn't reply sooner!) I actually just stood in the middle of my living room floor and arranged the tubing around me until I like the circumference, then I decreased what I felt was a reasonable ammount from there. (Funny story though, my second-from-the-top hoop was originally my second-from-the-bottom hoop, but it looked funny so I slipped it out of the ribbons and pushed it up a row).
i know the song at the end of the song. its from the sword in the stone. from disney.
How about using 1/4" drip irrigation line and then you could use the connector s they make for it.
Thank you this was great, just got some questions
1. Is it possible to make a hoop skirt for a 3/4 length dress?
2. Would you say that you had enough room to make the hoops smaller if you want to?
3. How easy was it to sit?
Thank you!
thank you omg finally i can do a hoopskirt for mu lolita dress!!Q!!
You probably could, but it might be difficult to get a strip of fabric long enough to encase the hoops (especially since you'd need to double it over).
Do you think I could use this method for making pocket hoops? Altering it but the same basic idea
Where did you get the tubing from to make the hoops? Love this video!!!
Thank you very much!
thx for u r video
plz tell the materials
I'm assuming you can do this at any length right? I want to use this for a knee-length skirt that is going to need a very clear triangle shape but the last few inches of the skirt needs to fall straight down, and I'm not sure would I would get that shape with a tutu.
And I must say, I love how simple this is. ^_^
What material did you use for the hoops? ☺️
if i were to make an open front hoopskirt, do you think the polytubing would maintain its shape correctly?
aaah oh man sorry for the spam but does it matter what type of fabric you use to put over a hoopskirt? I have two yards of fabric I'm planning on making one skirt out of, and the material isn't stretchy! I plan on making these skirts really, really poofy!
How did you know how much tubing to cut for each hoop?
my only concern is a safety one the bottom hoop should really not be that low. i wear hoops on a regular basis & have caught my heels on a 'too low' hoop. not only did i take a totally unexpected tumble but it was extremely difficult to get back up once tangled up in it.. most embarrassing and potentially dangerous.. if you are wearing petticoats over your hoop the bottom hoop really is unneccessary. in our dresses its recommended to not have one lower than mid calf.. :) = just my thoughts
no worries....
Is it ok to just use string instead of ribbon?
the sword in the stone?
whts up with the music at the end lol
It's from the Sword in the Stone by Disney
The only thing I'm worried about is how sturdy this is. Any ideas for making it a little bit more sturdy?
Maggie Mosby I've done this with a shorter hoop skirt but basically the more hoops and ribbon strips you have the more support it will have
Som1stolemycookie Thanks! I was going to make one but I found a few on amazon and it cost less that way so I'm going to buy one sometime soon. Any advice on that?
Maggie Mosby make sure to check reviews and to know what shape you will need otherwise they are usually about the same quality
Som1stolemycookie I will. Thanks a lot
+Maggie Mosby Hoop wiring would be a better way to make this a bit sturdier.
What a joke! Leave costume making to the professionals who actually take our craft seriously!
