The 2024 Nissan GTR Unveil Was a Huge Letdown

  • The 2024 Nissan GTR R35 has been unveiled at Tokyo Auto Salon. The R35 platform is now old enough to get a driver's license, and may people around the world are ready for something new from Nissan. The R35 for now feels like "if it isn't broken don't fix it" which makes sense, but the R36 GTR is hopefully on the horizon sometime soon. With better aerodynamics, a better AWD limited slip differential system, and a revised Nismo version the 2024 GTR is no slouch - just visually not too different. What are your thoughts on the new 2024 Nissan GTR?

I agree with you it doesn't look ugly and for all intents & purposes. The car is a serious performer! But... Nissan teased us with sketches of redesigned GTR's. Had crazy GTR concepts in video games and the prices increments are quite substantial, considering this was a 70k car on intro.
      I think it's a Huge disappointment.
But I think every car company except BMW has disappointed thus generation. And that hard to admit considering I'm not a BMW fan for 2 decades now.

I’m actually a fan of making the most of an existing design before scrapping it. I think car companies in general are too quick to make new models with new issues when they could have refined the old one. We don’t need totally new designs every few years we just need good well designed cars

    • @KingOath
      @KingOath Год назад +3

@Martin Wagoner Haha true, but surely there’s profit in flogging an old design rather than spending millions on a new one. Toyota is one of the biggest in the world and they are famous for endlessly facelifting old chassis. Which is great for us because it makes parts as universal as lego blocks and everyone knows how to fix them. I don’t think the average consumer can even tell the difference between a facelift and a ground up redesign. Many people don’t even know what model car they drive and some can’t even tell you the make…

In this day and age companies aren't going to invest a lot into this car because of what you said. Everything that is all new is an EV. How different is the new Z from the 350z that came out in 2002? Nissan FM Platform first hit market in 2001, its old enough to buy alcohol. Yet, we didn't complain too much about the new Z. Its Nissan doing more Nissan stuff. So at the end of the day they followed the same formula as he Z. I kinda blame the consumer for being okay with Nissan not making a new platform. Not that they could improve overall performance much. It feels like Nissan is perfecting the platforms, not making new car/platforms. Ford is doing the same thing with the Mustang. They dont want to put out millions of dollars for r&d on a new platform, that may or may not be outlawed in the future.

There are some solid points here that change my earlier opinion that I rather see it evolve rather than get the axe. That is, it's also hard to justify a buying a new car that isn't too different than the original one that came out over decade ago. Look at the 400Z, under the skin, it's a 370Z with a parts bin engine; nothing special but it's enough for people justify the upgrade.
Nissan isn't swimming in cash to go wild but a refresh like the 400Z would revive the interest in the GTR.

This is what I exactly feared the most... Nissan is really short on cash, and this is what they can do best at the moment. They hoped the Z could sorta bring back the fandom, but that plan got ruined by stealerships and underperformed against Supra. That's all fine. If Z positioned itself as a old school fun sports car, that's honestly cheaper than Supra and performs by the price point. But everyone jumped and built the hype as if this was a Supra killer.
I don't know what Nissan was targeting with the GTR anymore. I honestly hoped that Nissan would stop with the GTR production for the time being and focus on developing the R36 instead, if their budget is so damn tight that this is all they can do. The Z made me fear for exactly this scenario, and this 2024 GTR hammers the nail to the coffin. If it's far too costly, isn't Stellantis a massive fucking group? Isn't there really one company that Nissan can partner up to come up with an insane GTR and have a sibling sold elsewhere? Many ppl will hate this, but Toyota was absolutely right with collabbing to offer 86 and Supra. It simply allows companies to sell us enthusiast cars that are actually special. And after that, Toyota even had balls to offer up the GR Corolla afterwards. People may scream why Toyota didn't do for all three cars but... there's reason why GR Corolla was the last to come. Toyota actually made money and carefully assessed market, launching Toyota's own engineered car at a perfect timing. Can Nissan ever outdo Toyota? Absolutely, with proper funding and timing. This isn't.

As for the GTR exactly why do we need another one? Lord knows the GTR is was way too expensive when it first came out and way too much now. Even if they made a new GTR it probably isn't going to be much better than what we have already. That vr38 engine is a hand built monster.
Honestly the best thing they can do is scrap plans for a new GTR and put that time and effort into a new S chassis/entry level sports car. Something in the 20-30k range to compete with the brz and Miata.
Edit: I can't blame stealerships either as the only Z's that have been sold are the proto models and those were gonna be marked up. It's a supply issue since they're coming from Japan so idk give it a few months and you'll probably see more of them.

I wasn't that pleased with the original r35. I rode on one there fast but I can find cars for that much that make me way more excited.
I'd like for you to see my xb and tell me what you think of it and what I have plans for it. Awesome video as usual keep it up man.

The good thing about having a decade long car is a bazillion aftermarket parts instead of changing every 3 yrs. You can literally replace the entire car with goodies. Probably the most realistic daily.

the artist rendition is really good. has the boxy head light and the rear end has great shape that compliments the old style as well. good looking cars seem to be a thing of the past, most modern car designs are simply not that appealing

"The R36 is the GTA VI of the car industry" best way to describe it right there

The booth they did this reveal looked cheaper than a booth in the back of the LA auto show.

The opening of this video is exactly how I felt when the "new" s650 Mustang was released.

Remember the excitement people had when they saw a gtr for the first time in the US. Who would have thought they would be seeing the same thing more than a decade later
