"How can a young man keep his way pure?
By keeping it according to Your word."
Psalm 119:9, NASB
Their lifespans separated by multiple decades, these two men never had the chance to meet in person. However, their works unite in this hymn, a true collaboration of musical giants between one of the greatest classical composers and one of the greatest hymnists of all time.

Something I learned today. These lyrics have more verses that I didn't know about, and their definitely worth reading and appreciating:
How shall the young secure their hearts,
And guard their lives from sin?
Thy word the choicest rules imparts
To keep the conscience clean.
When once it enters to the mind,
It spreads such light abroad,
The meanest souls instruction find,
And raise their thoughts to God.
'Tis like the sun, a heav'nly light,
That guides us all the day;
And through the dangers of the night,
A lamp to lead our way.
The men that keep thy law with care,
And meditate thy word,
Grow wiser than their teachers are,
And better know the Lord.
Thy precepts make me truly wise:
I hate the sinner's road;
I hate my own vain thoughts that rise,
But love thy law, my God.
The starry heavens thy rule obey,
The earth maintains her place;
And these thy servants night and day
Thy skill and power express.
But still thy law and gospel, Lord,
Have lessons more divine;
Not earth stands firmer than thy word,
Nor stars so nobly shine.
Thy word is everlasting truth,
How pure is every page!
That holy book shall guide our youth,
And well support our age.

How I wish you had sung a few more verses -- to last for about 3 minutes! I had never heard of the song till this week, and I've been playing it 10-20 times a day. The range and structure of the melodic line comes across as intimately woven in the harmonic flow as to give the song a seductive power that, alas, lasts only 1.26 minutes. Phew! How I wish; just wish.
Another incredible song to enjoy, teach, and sing with my children - THANK YOU! I believe to my core that if more children (and adults) were learning the message of your music it would cure what is wrong with the world!
This was one of my favorites as a child. I thought it was written especially for children. Jesus loves us all.

Let's just talk about how nailed the Alto portion was. Great harmony between that and the tenor that makes this song 'sing'. Nice work... and that final bass note, excellent.

@@ChurchsofChrist Having grown up in a largely more contemporary church background, I actually find some of the older hymns to be more to my liking, especially with acappella harmonies like how Micheal or someone like David Wesley does them (though this type of style RULES!). God bless, everyone.
