There's something about games having repeated npc models that have "character". Not all games has it. Especially newer games don't have them.
@@CoolSs yeah this is very noticeable with Postal 2 and Postal 4. I love postal 2 npcs, and not only do they have a lot of personality, but they look a hell of a lot better too, despite being a much older game

I think the offset female numbers in the hammer editor is because there was a cut female citizen so Valve had to offset all of the numbers by one but forgot to rename to npcs in the editor.
Their is the fact many of the civilians are willing to give their life for Dr Gordon Freeman as he is in their eyes a living legend, and unstoppable hero.
Thuthfuly, Gordon Freeman kinda is an unstoppable hero. He can run much faster than most of NPCs thanks to his HEV suit, he can carry and use more than one weapon in the game and he seems to be the only one that wears this type of suit. That HEV suit is like a Power Armor from Fallout but much weaker, no wonder why those civilians are willing to protect Gordon because if that suit falls on combine hands it would be a disaster for humanity in my opinion.
@@yaroslavm9898 its not really the suit that makes gordon powerful, its g-man's prepared path for him that does. whenever gordon steps out of his intended path, people get hurt like for ex alyx at the start of episode 2.
Everytime I play gmod with my czech friend, he always missreads the "citizen" and says it as "cizinec" (it means a foreigner in Czech), and I cannot stop laughing about this mistake

Honestly, I could never see HL2 without seeing the citizens as they are.
Also, It's seems alot of them are doing well nowadays. Notably, Joe Cairo seems to have retired from basketball from what I heard. Larry Heard appears to be still making music. And Art Min just seems to be doing fine, he has a twitter too
Other than that I'm wouldn't go poking into these peoples lives for obvious reasons but If anybody wants to know whats up I hope this is alright info

Ironic that those "high-quality" models look so much worse than what we got. Even barring how uncanny they look, the normal citizens look dirtier, like they're covered in dust, which fits the atmosphere of Half Life 2 much better.
I think it's because of the lighting of photo shot on their faces. The old beta versions look smeared in oil, which creates a feeling of plasticity barbie doll

IMO I like the look of the release faces better.
Gonna be honest I never realized there were so many models. My mind only picked up on black npc, black female npc, white female npc, and about two separate white male npcs. What stuck out more to me was their voices. My favorite has to be the new guy added in episode 2, Doug Baldwin or something like that. He killed it

the reason that some of these npcs have names in hammer is mostly because of the fact that you need to name entities in order to attach scripts to them and stuff like that
