Like James Newton Howard, Alan is another of the last, great old school composers. His theme from "Soapdish" is one of the most fun pieces of music I ever had the pleasure of bobbing my head to.

Back To The Future ....what an epic theme !!!
One of the family traditions that we had growing up was watching "The Polar Express" every Christmas Eve. Whether it be after we're done hosting the family gathering, or when we would come home from a family gathering at someone else's house. It's still one of my go-to movies for Christmas, even though that tradition doesn't happen now. Alan Silvestri is a musical genius. :)
The Predator soundtrack pieces are just magic!
At 28:18 you can definitely hear "Back to the Future" in "The quick and dead"

Forrest Gump score has this heavyweight to it… it’s such a hopeful yet sad melody at the same time.. it’s full of sorrow and pain.. yet clinging to a better future.

My opinion is that Predator (1987) soundtrack is best masterpiece of Alan Silvestri. Like Basil Poledouris was Conan Barbarian (1982). Music score made them bigger than normal movie.....

Predator 2 is my favorite Alan Silvestri soundtrack. I like the first movie aswell but feel the drums add so much to an already great score that characterizes the predator and its world. I feel that theme should have been somewhere on the list.
I feel the same way. Predator 2 was one of the soundtracks I went out of my way to find on CD back in the day. Especially the end credits.

The only disadvantage of P2 - they neglect too much the power of real human weapon and technologies.
But let's be fair - it's the property of the most science fiction movies. In other case the stories would finish very quickly... barbecue made of Predator and so on...

I was falling asleep every summer night with Contact soundtrack.the orchestration is amazing masterpiece.

The fact the man who wrote the OST for The Polar Express also wrote it for Lilo and Stitch and Night at the Museum, childhood memories near and dear to me boggles my mind.

I can always tell I’m watching a Robert Zemeckis directed film when Alan would be composing the music. Some of his underrated composing work was impeccable, like Soapdish, What Lies Beneath, and Ferngully: The Last Rainforest

Given the range, development and exploration of thematic material, the BACK TO THE FUTURE trilogy is easily number one. Remember, separate the quality of a score from a film. A great score supports a film, while clearly standing on its own.

The Endgame piece titled “The Real Hero” makes me cry every time. My brother passed away last April and it reminds me of him. He was my best friend and he was literally my identical twin. That shit hurt more than any words can come close to expressing.
I see a lot of people highly praising the Predator soundtracks and Back to the Future, but I'm a GenZer, and grew up in the 2000s, so for me, The Polar Express and Night at the Museum are my childhood! Silvestri captures _childlike wonder_ SO beautifully, and I LOVE that feeling the most. Also The Croods, The Mummy, and A Christmas Carol, which sadly didn't get mentioned here.

It's hard to choose my fave Alan Silvestri soundtracks, but Forrest Gump is definitely one of them! Also, Practical Magic and Father of the Bride. I could have any of these 3 soundtracks playing or watch those movies any day! Such good memories watching those movies growing up in the 90s.

I’m so glad Van Helsing was included in this. It’s one of my all time favorite movies and the soundtrack has been stuck in my head ever since it came out. Avengers as well. Alan is truly an amazing composer

I like Silvestri a lot -- but this really demonstrates how after Cast Away (with a few exceptions) his output essentially became a big orchestral sound factory and lost a lot of the specialness of his scores throughout the 80s and 90s. i bet it paid for some amazing wine, though! ;D
Do not forget that he was the main composer for Warner time on all animations for years.

I think his most underrated and lesser-known soundtrack to Disney's Flight of The Navigator is one of his best works but the film isn't as popular so it doesn't get the same recognition as say, back to the future.
