I met Chris in 1994 and joined him in a strenuous training session at a NYC gym. He was an extremely nice man with great perspective. Excellent video, John.
I think you're referring to Gold's Gym in Midtown Manhattan. That's where I met him too. I was so excited when he came there and started training people. Super nice and respectful guy.
@@naturalolympiaSir...for all the tremendous research efforts and attention to detail u put into your unique videos, u have inspired generations of those who have and who will embrace physique culture. You are the LIBRARIAN OF THE BODYBUILDING ARCHIVES. FOR THIS, I GIVE MUCH THANKS!!! CASEY ONCE TOLD ME I HAD THE GREATEST PHYSIQUE HE HAD EVER SEEN. HIS WORDS BREATH IN MY HEART TILL THIS DAY. I WILL NEVER FORGET HIM!!!
I remember leaving the 1981 Mr.Olympia in Columbus with my 2 weightlifting partners all 3 of us believing Chris Dickinson should have won . We had a good time at our first Olympia with the exception of a guy behind us kept screaming that Hubert Metz was not in the top five. Great video!
Well done video. (A bit of squinting on your presentation). Nice to see these photos, from my era. Most fans today seem unaware of the overall judging picture (personality, education, lifting ability etc..) thanks for your channel-hope you get many more well deserved views ! 👏🏽
This is very interesting, please don't stop! It's sad you don't have a larger audience but hopefully this could be an eye opener of what bodybuilding should be and how badly wrong is the direction it's heading today (actually for the past 30 years or so)
To me it seems like the greatest times in bodybuilding began in the late 60's and went up into the early 80's with the 70's being the absolute best of it all.
Thanks for your video posting. I remember this time period very well. I remember all the information you are reporting. Chris Dickerson was a NBC page and appeared a few times on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson. Thanks again John.
The explosion of Viator on the bodybuilding scene.... The year Arthur Jones "discovered ,lol" Casey. He claimed he built Viator's physique although this Mr A would show Casey was a monster.....This was a great time to be a young bodybuilding fan !
this was about the time steroids were really popping....after summer vacation you would see guys you knew who had blown up to unreal size in just a few months....and you didnt know drugs were the reason till...so many were doing it....i actually met Dickerson at a friends gym opening....
I don't know about Chris Dickerson being the first black Mr. America because n 1964 Harold Poole became the first African-American to be named IFBB Mr. America.
IFBB in 1964 was still pretty much a regional organization centered around Weider operations on the East Coast, kind of like Dan Lurie's WBBG. The AAU title was the national standard and a ticket to competing in the NABBA Mr. Universe.
@@naturalolympia John, with all due respect I do understand about the AAU part but in every interview that I have seen from Dickerson he always claims to be the (first black Mr. America) but never mentioned the AAU - I do believe that Harold Poole deserves much credit for that title due to all the racism that was going on back in 1964 more than in 1970. No matter what organization Mr. Poole was actually the first Black Mr. America on record. - But I do respect everyone's opinion on this.
@@daveconleyportfolio5192 Sorry friend, nothing regional about the IFBB in 1964 - Larry Scott had to win the 1964 IFBB Mr. Universe in order for him to compete in the Mr. Olympia in 1965 which he won. The IFBB was already big.

What a lineup. Thanks for keeping the history alive.
Thanks for supporting the channel
Another job well done, Mr Hansen. Wish it was longer!
Chuck Amato was my bodybuilding mentor. He put on contests in Portland and always gave the best trophies.
That’s awesome!
Great show! I can’t believe how great Casey looked at such a young age!!!

Thank you for your support and I agree with you!
Chris was an awesome bodybuilder and by all accounts an even better human being. R.I.P

Imagine being only 18 or 19 and having Arms and Forearms
like Casey Viator.
That was some very interesting history!
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks John, another great video

Yes it was a great time and I wish they still printed bodybuilding magazines although they probably wouldn't be as interesting as the classics.
Thank you John.
Hi John Hansen, would you do contest reports wbbg contests, nabba and wabba as well as ifbb all important in body building history
Yes, I’ve done several Bodybuilding History videos on the NABBA Universe

I think Harold Poole had a much better physique than Dickerson, only my opinion but I was never impressed by Dickerson @AngelOliva302
Wish John would also report natural bodybuilding contests.Afterall he claims to be natural.
Casey Viator all the way.
Dickerson beat Waller and Viator? What a farce!!
I met a guy who claimed he was Chris's s ex boyfriend. Hey that is what the guy said
And he was gay. And he had weird elbows.
Feel good now buddy? 🤡
His whole body looked kinda weird
Johns beat Adrian.
