On my circus marionettes i used a product called ' paper clay'....starts off kinda heavy and wet then dries light... Can be drilled into and screw eyes put in.. great stuff!
Arlee you can make your puppets waterproof. All you need is styrofoam and cellulose and a jar .you can get the cellulose stuff at lows or home depot. And rubber gloves. Pore the cellulose in the jar then brake pieces of styrofoam and put it on the jar with the cellulose. Then dip your paint brush in the cellulose and brush it on your puppets. No water will hurt it give it a try ok.good luck.from Richard Reed

Your videos are a huge part of demystifying making my first puppet :) I’m very excited!!
You can do it!
Arlee I use balloons to make the head roll out the clay with a rolling pin and wrap it around the balloon you could cut a piece of clay for the neck.
The head will be hollow and lighter
Parabéns pelo trabalho e dividir conosco . Sou do Brasil.
do you use baby oil or something to smooth surface and remove the fingerprints?
I just put petroleum jelly on it and paper mache over. But if you were doing something like casting a plaster mold that may be a good idea.
If we cannot have this clay, how can we make the head with the features we want?
I think it would work with anytime of clay.
Will it wor with clay I’ll have to fire
