Thank you so much for making this video! I’m not trying to make a marionette but I am trying to draw a puppet character and this has been really helpful to figure out how the hip joints work! I was starting to despair at ever drawing accurate joints!

I'm just getting into puppet making now, and your work is amazing! Do you have any advice on avoiding paint chipping I'm the joints? I'm worried it will rub off if I'm not careful. And particular paints you use?

depends how tight your joints are, there shouldn't be much rubbing between the surfaces, however if you use thinner wash coats that soak into the wood this should help. also you can use a finish coat such as a matt laquer/varnish for a bit of added protection.

What types of wood do you recommend for making marionettes? I was thinking of using some pine, but im not sure if there are better options

I use mostly Lime (similar to Basswood) but some pines can work ok too.
Best to get a small piece first and test it.

You could use for a shoulder joint it might not be free enough moving though depending on what the puppet is to do.
