For over 9 years I drove for Continental Trailways Central Division Bus Company. I got to travel all over the U.S. These are just a few of the places I got to visit.
I drove for SWT(Safeway Trails)out of Washington,D.C. from 1981-1987. I stayed on after the Greyhaound take over for a year. There will never be another bus company like Continental Trailways. We had the cleanest buses & terminals nationwide.I miss those great days of bussing! The bus industry in America has gone to hell in a hand basket. We once had the two best intercity bus companies on Earth. Now Greyhound @ 100yrs old is a shadow of itself. "The Hound" is a truly toothless now. Continental Trailways was a leader in the bus industry. It is truly sad that this great company is no more. Those were the days, yes those were the days.
When I was young, my family traveled by Trailways all the way from Wilson, NC to San Francisco, CA. That started my lifelong love of travel, both foreign and domestic.
When I was a young child 15 y/o I used to take Trailways between Los Angeles and San Francisco CA they were the best ...the drivers were so friendly , I would sit in front and talk with them..I always wanted to be a bus driver ! But I ended up being a cop in Los Angeles ....lol
There's Nothing Like Those EAGLE BUSES On AMERICAN HIGHWAYS Across AMERICA. I enjoyed many trips on those SILVER and GOLDEN EAGLE Buses, Wish they were still running All Over AMERICA Today.TRAILWAYS Buses and their TRAILWAYS TERMINALS and GREYHOUND TERMINALS; But Those TRAILWAYS SILVER and GOLDEN EAGLE BUSES Always Caught People Eyes when they were coming into Those TRAILWAYS TERMINALS or PULLING Out Of Those TRAILWAYS TERMINALS.
drove for TNE (trailways of new England ) boston/ new York turns. best job I ever had then they started to break us up Michaud trailways , concord trailways ect. still miss it .
Did You know Jake Dec or Bob Fitzpatrick. I used to ride from "the port' to Worcester, Ma in '70 on the ten pm out, when I was in the army , going home on a weekend pass. Jake was always the driver because the job ended in Worcester, and he lived in Holden. Bob Did a Boston, NY, Springfield layover job. I met him after getting out of the army. His wife drove a school bus in Shrewsbury , and Bob would occasionaly do the same, which is where I met him in '74. Later on, I had a part time job driving for Fox Bus Line, doing charters and tours, then a part time job working for Peter Pan, doing scheduled line service work.
@mmffl123456 once i get my cdl im going to a charter/line run service with eagles and early model buses some new but all will be mecanicly fixed so that it wont be looking like a greyhound.
But TeeMackKC, you forgot the Trailways that connects the small se utah towns, Bluff, Blanding, Monticello, La Sal, Moab and Green River with the Best Big City and Capital there ever was,.....Salt Lake City! ;)
I drove for American buslines east out of NYC 76 to 81. The only driving job I couldn't wait to go to. No other bus I drove rode like the silver eagle. Bill Biaco was my trainer he worked out of Pittsburgh PA. The things he taught us rookies,I used to teach my kids how to drive. Driving eagles shifting smooth was fun. You knew you were doing it right when gold banquet hat Trailways driver complemented you. I mostly drove European tourists all over the north east and canada. Charters were anywhere from 5 to 18 days long. Sometimes I would have to cover the Pittsburgh line schedule depart 2pm arrive around 11pm. The only reason I left was work was not year round. But is was great when it was.
I'm buying an old Eagle model 5 like this one. It's got the 8v71, a 4spd manual and no power steering, I am a bit worried about taking it fully loaded through the mountain areas of AZ and beyond, any tips or info you'd like to share? Was yours pretty dependable? Thanks!
I spent 17 years with Trailways. So i too enjoy seeing and rembeming the trips i did

Were you ever in Columbus Ohio between 1966 and 1986?
very nice, but where are the whitewalls that Trailways were famous for?
Wasn't the white walls on golden Eagles?
They were more expensive than blackwalls so they departed in the 60's-70's.
