Excellent video! I've just purchased a set of twin DVD players for the back of the head restraints and although my Grandchildren could view DVDs, I think this connected via a HDMI cable would be an excellent addition? Cheers.

Quick question, why would you use android auto if this handles your calls, music, maps and I assume whatsapp? Can you just do everything that android auto would do but better?
Pretty much hit the nail on the head, plus it lets you install any of the apps from the play store so much more powerful 👍

@@CRD90 It is. Had trouble getting my second phone's sim to work, but after connecting to wifi and a couple of restarts, its running off my Tmo data plan. I'm in love and wish I found out about it b4 that 10 hr drive I took last week!

Nice one 👍🏻 with the wireless CarPlay does it operate as it does on the head unit in the car or can you watch videos on CarPlay too without restrictions? Also if I put a SIM card in can the digidash be used was a wireless hotspot? Sorry so many questions 😂
@@brettiles931 not tried it bud, I'm not really a carplay user but I would assume it functions the same way as normal as it's running the same software.

Hi bro. A question on the electronic handbrake. My mate told me to press brake and press down handbrake button which is what I’ve been doing. But I’m reading as long as the seatbelts on and door is closed you can pull off and the handbrake auto turns off with forward motion ? Which is best practice ??

Resistive touch screen with single touch points, definitely not good for high speed gaming, but there are units out there with capacitive screens which would probably be better options.

@crd I'm looking in to this so I can get wireless Android Auto instead of having to cable in each time. However, I'd like to know what the boot up is like on a day to day basis. Is it fairly quick to load once you get in the car and start? Android Auto being connected if you got in the car with bluetooth on. Would you be able to estimate how long this is? Is it like a stock system where it would take a couple seconds or are we looking more at 30s to a minute? Thanks
Hi bud I would say the 30-40 second range as it has to boot up the os first. Not that it's noticeable in real life.

Good video well explained. From your experience which is the best set to buy which does more and less the same thing as digi dash but not with a premium price tag
Thanks, there are a few alternatives but the digidash has been the most reliable long term for me. Always boots up quickly and does not crash.
I believe it's down to the specifications of it that allow it to run better. I know it's a bit pricey but it is worth it as their support is UK based too.

Good vid. I was looking at these and thinking, could you add an external usb camera and turn it into a dashcam recorder do you think? I know there are dashcam apps out there but they all seem to use a phones inbuilt camera.
Thanks bud, I'm not sure it would work like that because the sole usb port on this is to connect to the factory carplay.
That's also the same connection it gets the power from.

How did you get on?
Man great video. One question, Can you use car play on one side and Netflix on the other side in split screen? Or can you connect the phone as normal hands free and still use dg box? Thanks
Thanks bud, not tried it that way (carplay + Netflix) I think it may work as the carplay is really just running an android app anyway. You can definitely connect as hands free plus run Netflix etc. When the phone will ring it will still come through your car speakers and from memory even flicks onto carplay for that moment in time to allow you to answer.

Hi, thanks this review, I appreciate the detail and time spent on making us aware of these new gadgets. I recently bought this item and currently having issues with Spotify and Apple Carplay. Once the device is running and start using Spotify the sound/music seems to be coming only from the right front speaker as if it was a call coming through. The only workaround I found is to open apple maps app while music is playing. As soon as voice navigation directions kick in, the music then seems to magically re-route to its normal path and starts playing properly through the car's built-in speaker. Have you experienced anything similar? I wonder if there is any setting I am missing...?

I could get the digidash to work on screen whilst using the car radio in the background. But so far no way to get the digidash to play through headphones.

So when you are driving are you connecting by Bluetooth on the sim in the box .
You only need to connect to your phone when using car play or in my case android auto.
I just had an MMB similar thing delivered yesterday, returned it today, just to much trouble with the connecting.
Going to buy one of these now
I usually use the tethering to connect the box to the internet rather than insert a sim card into the box.
When using android auto I just let it wirelessly connect which works well.

How do you view files on external usb with this connected
HI there, just had a quick question about this. So once initial setup is done and you unplug it when not in the car and plug it back in next time you are in, should it just connect seamless to the wireless or would you have to set up a wireless AA connection each time? I am assuming that once initially set up, the moment you plug in the box and your phone bluetooth is on, it should fine it automatically?
Also can you simultaneously connect two devices via bluetooth?

You are spot on once you've connected once it will remember the settings so doesn't matter if you unplug the device.
I personally never got a chance to test two phones simultaneously so can't give you a 100% answer on that.

What if this Device is paired to mines and the Mrs
Phone and we both jump in the car at the same time. Does it let you select a handset then and there which one it connects to OR do you have to set a primary device ?
Not tested this myself, but other devices with similar features usually remember the last connected device and prioritise this. I would assume something similar would work here.
Do you know if this will work on a Ford Focus 2016, my iPhone works with Car Play with a USB lead.

What is the difference between the touch screen and remote version. And can the remote one be used as just touch screen also

You're right the only difference is the remote, and the remote can be added to the existing touchscreen version via Bluetooth pairing. That's how I've filmed it in the upcoming video.

Unfortunately not, this uses the carplay already in the car to run on top of.

You'd need to have that in order for this to work. The other option is to get one of those carplay converter kits that let you retrofit apple carplay

The actual boot up speed was unedited. Unfortunately my commentary is never correct first time as I do these reviews on the fly and unscripted. That's why I snipped to the voice over with least ermmms and ahhs lol .

I haven't tried this but potentially yes as it would mount up as an Android device.

Not sure what is up with aad, it worked whilst I had my A3 but I've noticed many are now saying it no longer does.
Yep agree this feels expensive, but the interface is worth it alone in my opinion as it works just like your normal apps.
But I guess it all comes down to how often you see yourself using something like this. I know this works on the 8Y gen cars too

The way I had this connected in the video was exactly as you've described 👍 (using my phone as a tethering hotspot)
Please do you need your phone as well, will the Internet come up straight as soon as you connect to the car?
If you put a sim card in the digidash it will have Internet connectivity. Otherwise the easier option is to use mobile hot-spot from your phone.
It will remember the WiFi network and password so you will auto connect when the unit turns on.
Does your screen have to be touchscreen? I have an E400 which isn't touchscreen, will this still work?
It will work without as long as you buy the non-touchscreen version which uses the the wireless remote to interact 👍

Unfortunately not, as it tricks the carplay into booting up the digidash OS.

@@adwos1469 no problem, there are retrofit ways of putting carplay into BMW but not sure if that would allow you to connect the digidash afterwards and it's pretty expensive!
Howdy Audi update. Audi ordered 370 days ago has arrived. Pick up this Saturday. Now I read late last year that the rear parking camera would be added as standard. My dealer tells me different and that it is included in a £1200 accessory pack. Im confused. Can you try confirm this for me ? Thanks.

Yep reverse camera requires comfort and sound pack on any spec other than the vorsprung models.

Yep as long as your car has factory carplay from the usb port. If it has touchscreen this version will work otherwise you can buy the non-touchscreen version from their website.

Yep it should do, as long as the car has factory apple carplay this device tricks it into thinking an iPhone is connected.

Yep, your car should turn the usb ports off automatically after a while. For example on my jaguar after roughly 5 minutes the power is turned off.

I’ve just received my Digi dash today and it doesn’t work with my stereo. I have a Sony XAV-AX3005DB DAB Car Stereo with Apple Car Play, Android Auto and Bluetooth. This is an after market purchase as my car came with a basic CD player, I bought the Sony from Halfords last year.

Works all the time, legally whilst driving it would be for passenger use 😉

You wouldn't that's illegal. This is for passengers whilst the car is driving and the driver should only use this when parked up 👍🏽
