I took my first shave this morning with a non-cartridge razor this morning, on a new Henson mild with the standard blade supplied. Wonderful and easy - zero cuts. I started out with a Van Der Hagen but it was just ok. I have a Merkur 34c now and I’m loving it. I’ve had a few shaves and don’t get any irritation. Best shave ever paired with an Astra blade.
Im recently into DE shaving, I own several razors now but started on the Henson and its still my go too. No nicks, weepers, or burn with any blades. Just a smooth, beautiful BBS shave every time.

Go with the Henson AL-13 your won't regret it. Get a variety pack of blades to see which ones are perfect for your skin and hair type. If not get a Alum block now. Helps after every shave
Got my Leaf Twig yesterday. This is my first safety razor shave ever and I am 54. The blades that came with it were no bueno for me but that was my very first shave. The weight of the razor is substantial and it felt good. My second shave was today and I shaved my face and head. Used the Astra Green blades and I couldn’t have been happier. I’m on a learning curve for sure but probably took 5 minutes more than my normal cartridge razor routine. This is by far the best shave I’ve had in quite a while. Your videos really helped me with a routine. I’m also at a slight advantage because I can shave in the evening and you can’t even tell the next day. I will do that for a while until I can get a routine down so I’m not rushing in the morning.
Muhle r89 grande is the best start up razor you can buy.its mild and no chance of getting cut. Also you can put a feather blade in there and have a great shave.
I’ve owned the Rockwell 6S, and all 3 Hensons (mild, medium and aggressive) and the the Merkur 34c. All are decent razors but you will be amazed at how much better the Karve Overlander is. After getting the Overlander I sold all of the above mentioned razors, it’s that much better of a shaver.
@@OhioShaves The Aluminum version is about 88.00 USD (120.00 Canadian). The SS version is about $172.00 USD, and the brass version is about 93.00 USD. I own both the aluminum and stainless steel version, both shave pretty much identically so your best bet is to just get the aluminum version unless you must have a heavier razor, in that case the brass version is OK if you’re alright with patina.
@@OhioShaves Also, where the Overlander really shines is how close & irritation free it shaves, especially against the grain around the sensitive areas like above the lip. It is noticeably better there than most DE razors I’ve tried. The only other razor that comes close is the Charcoal Goods Everyday razor, but sadly the owner retired & closed the business. It also is efficient enough to tackle several days growth, yet mild enough to shave every day with it. Check out the reviews, there are a few that use it ATG on the first pass. I wouldn’t recommend that unless you have 2 days or less beard growth.
The best experience I had Merkur 34C HD with Astra Superior Platinum blade It is very important to use a shaving gel Type (Gillette pro sensitive deep comfort With this formula, you can shave in a rough manner without having to shave, because this gel will help in shaving. I do not recommend using other blades or a different shaving foam.
love your recommendation. I bought a clone of R89 and i found the blade are a bit unbalanced. It is cheap so it is expected. Will put Leaf Twig as my next razor.
merkur or parker should be everyone's first razor, if you get cuts or irritation with those, you know somethings wrong with your technique, blades, or prep. Open combs are my favorite now that I've got some experience
First, I want to thank you and other reviewers for the time and dedicated you’ve put towards teaching and informing people about single-edge (SE) and double-edge (DE) safety razor shaving. That being said, would you consider adding the Supply single-edge razor (either the model SE and/or the Single Edge Pro model) to your repertoire of reviews? Four years ago, I purchased the Supply 2.0 (now named the SE) as my first single-blade type razor and loved the ease of use and performance it provided. After viewing many of your videos on SE, DE, plate-adjustable and handle-adjustable razors, I’d like your opinion on how Supply would match in performance with other razors; like Henson, Twig, Rockwell’s 6C/S and T2 SS, and Merkur’s 34C and Futur. Thanks for your time, consideration and great videos!
My T2 arrived a week ago. Until then, the only DE razor I've ever tried was my dads Invicta Industria Argentina (Fluted brass with both combed edges); once ages ago when I was maybe 18. Forrrrrget it. It tore me up. Thing is probably 1960's. Tried a G.B.S. blade in it a few days before my T2 arrived. I could hardly believe it! Great shave! Only one small nick, with one pass. As for the T2, I love it. With my first use, I thought I should dial it up to 6, so as to be the best comparison with my dad's Invicta. So......I put it to 6. Looked at the size of the gap. Got scared. Dialed it back to 3. And it was similar to the Invicta (same used blade). Of course I'm still finding the best blades. I had a Twig in Prism arrive yesterday. Except......they sent me Berry Blue. NOT acceptable. So waiting for them to get back to me.
Man....I tried so many safety razors looking for cartridge razor replacement and you cannot compare. I just cannot replicate that cartridge shave. So I use a knock off Merkur adjustable set aggressive and Rockwell for 2nd and 3rd pass. My face cannot handle going against the grain, unless I use a cartridge razor. I got Feather butterfly razor and blades ...price was good but yo that is so sharp, don't let the price fool you...you need to know what you are doing.
They used to be $12. In my experience, it wasn't that great. Especially compared to these Top Razors. The razor in my opinion has one fatal flaw. It doesn't matter what blade I put in it. I always get blade chatter causing major skin irritation on my neck. Not good for my sensitive skin. Everyone's face is different. Glad you like it👍
I liked the KCG head and price (usually on heavy promotion) but the handle was too long, thin and slippery. I sold mine although it wasn't worth much it was never going to get used again as there are better heads and handles. For someone on a very tight budget or not willing to spend too much upfront maybe at $12 but unlikely to be something that gets long term use. I'd suggest a Rockwell 2C for a beginner as it's only $40, the 1/3 plate enables them to start low on 1 then move onto 3 when they get confident and Rockwell sell the 2/4 and 5/6 plates seperately to upgrade in future if desired. Still the 6C is only $20 more and you get the 2 extra plates included. There's usually a 10%+ discount code on Rockwells and free shipping if you spend enough.
I have not tried merkur 34c, edwin jagger de89, or muhle r89, but I think the King C. Gillette is a similar and cheaper alternative. Great beginner razor.
Finally pulled the trigger on my first order supporting Geo at ShaveNation. Went with the Merkur 34C and the Henson medium with an assortment of blades to try and a nice Stirling Lemon soap and Proraso cream. I'll use your link next to get the leaf or twig for my wife and the Rockwell 6S is on my wish list as I get a bit more experienced (assuming it goes well). Thanks for the great content!
I use the 3 blade Leaf for my head and armpits. I love it. For my face I've been using a Merkur 34C for a good 15yrs. I want to try the Twig for my face, but I don't know if it will be worth it since I use the Merkur 34C. What do you think?
The twig is the easiest razor to shave with. Smooth as glass when you find the blade that fits your skin type. I personally think it’s better than the 34c for shaving any part of your body. Pick one up and you won’t regret it.
@@OhioShaves I ordered off my phone and didn't see your link in the description. So I used the code on there website. When they send me the emails like when I purchased the Leaf, I will definitely email Adam back and let him know I watched your video and that's why I decided to purchase it.
I love my Twig but I’m already at the point of wanting more efficiency and buying a Thorn. I’m just curious if you were to compare the aggressiveness of the Thorn to a Rockwell 6c, what plate would be most similar to the Thorn?
It’s definitely OK. You’re going to get just OK results. If you purchase a premium soap or cream in a puck and use a Lathering brush on your face, you’re going to add a level of slickness for the razor to just glide a crossed.
Do you think its possible for someone to be able to master using the straight razor on their own head, or do you think its too much hassle? I do think the straight razor gets closer than any others and I have seen people use it on themselves. Thanks

My opinion for the best and easiest to obtain for wet shaving 🪒 is the Van Der Hagen, it comes with 5 of their blades. Made in Germany and Boy it is fantastic for what it is and what you get for 25$. @@CaptnYestrday it's a very good razor, I'm glad it was my first. I'd say personally, I think I'll like the Henson a little more once I get used to it. But I'll occasionally revisit the 34c.
I use the Rockwell 6C with Stirling Shave Soap. I have been for a few years. It is way better than cartridge razors.
💯
I just bought the Barbershop Shave Soap from Stirling Soap Co. Purchased from Pasteur Pharmacy.
Looking forward to trying that.
their Pumpkin Spice is another scent I would like to try.
Try the Henson mild razor without shaving cream. It works fantastic. I have never used the leaf or twig. I love the Mercur 34c too. Great razor the goat. The Rockwell T2 is great too.
Thanks for sharing!! Without shaving cream, that's great for you👍

You mentioned the Henson but I don't see it anywhere
It's in there
@@OhioShaves Henson also has an aggressive, but they don't sell it on their site for come reason. Comes in a light grayish color. You can find it by googling "Henson aggressive gray."
what about king c gillette and Edward Jagger safety razors? Any opinions on these two?
I've been debating on getting my first Safty razor for a long time now.. Feels like Harry's and Dallorshave club prices damn near same as Gelete prices
Go with the Henson AL-13 your won't regret it. Get a variety pack of blades to see which ones are perfect for your skin and hair type. If not get a Alum block now. Helps after every shave
Great video for us newbies. Thanks for all your work.
My pleasure!
Awesome 😁
I shave in the evenings as well. Gives your face time to recover overnight and also nice when you don’t have to rush in the mornings.
Two of My favorites Twig and Henson ! How’s the Handicap these days ?
I haven't played in two years. This spring.
Muhle r89 grande is the best start up razor you can buy.its mild and no chance of getting cut. Also you can put a feather blade in there and have a great shave.
I can tell you have been shaving for a long time with the R89. It's a great razor 👍
А ви поставте в 89 - саме дешеве лезо і воно вас взагалі не буде голити так як в 89 дуже малий виліт леза - ха ха ха 😊
WHAT'S THE COST NEW
@@OhioShaves The Aluminum version is about 88.00 USD (120.00 Canadian).
Is that made by Krave?
@@billjohnsonseattle what makes the aluminum version so much better?
The best experience I had
Merkur 34C HD with Astra Superior Platinum blade It is very important to use a shaving gel Type (Gillette pro sensitive deep comfort
With this formula, you can shave in a rough manner without having to shave, because this gel will help in shaving. I do not recommend using other blades or a different shaving foam.
Have you tried a artisan, shaving soap, cream with a actual shaving brush? Game changer
love your recommendation. I bought a clone of R89 and i found the blade are a bit unbalanced. It is cheap so it is expected. Will put Leaf Twig as my next razor.
Great choice. Thanks for sharing
Mine is a Rockwell 4C as I started with a 2C and added the 2/4 plate. Don't see me ever needing the 5/6 plate.
👍
merkur or parker should be everyone's first razor, if you get cuts or irritation with those, you know somethings wrong with your technique, blades, or prep. Open combs are my favorite now that I've got some experience
👍
I'll look into it. Thank you much

Nice review. Keep the berry blue or sell it. They don't make many of them and are sold out
Which of the 3 from the Leaf, Henson and Rockwell would you recommend for head shaves? Not a super experienced safety razor user.

Great video lots of great information
Glad you enjoyed it
Man....I tried so many safety razors looking for cartridge razor replacement and you cannot compare.
😁
Great recommendations. I would also include the King C. Gillette for beginners. It's very mild and for its $30 price is quite well built.
I haven’t used the King yet but the reviews are mixed. Thanks for sharing
Nice video and explanation bro
Thank you so much 🙂

Finally pulled the trigger on my first order supporting Geo at ShaveNation. Went with the Merkur 34C and the Henson medium with an assortment of blades to try and a nice Stirling Lemon soap and Proraso cream. I'll use your link next to get the leaf or twig for my wife and the Rockwell 6S is on my wish list as I get a bit more experienced (assuming it goes well). Thanks for the great content!
oh...also went with the Simpsons T2 Trafalgar and a nice Alum Block.
Cool 👍
Happy to Help out @geofatboy 😉
Great video, thanks!
💯
I use the 3 blade Leaf for my head and armpits. I love it. For my face I've been using a Merkur 34C for a good 15yrs. I want to try the Twig for my face, but I don't know if it will be worth it since I use the Merkur 34C. What do you think?
The twig is the easiest razor to shave with. Smooth as glass when you find the blade that fits your skin type. I personally think it’s better than the 34c for shaving any part of your body. Pick one up and you won’t regret it.
@@OhioShaves I just ordered it. Today is there Birthday and there offering 20% off. Thanks man!
Awesome. Did they let you use my code for an additional 10% off?
@@OhioShaves I ordered off my phone and didn't see your link in the description. So I used the code on there website. When they send me the emails like when I purchased the Leaf, I will definitely email Adam back and let him know I watched your video and that's why I decided to purchase it.

For me it was no brainer...edwin jagger crs and feather for blades...

Viking was my first as well, really hated it lol

I love my Twig but I’m already at the point of wanting more efficiency and buying a Thorn. I’m just curious if you were to compare the aggressiveness of the Thorn to a Rockwell 6c, what plate would be most similar to the Thorn?

What about the Rockwell R1? I was looking at that one too but I can't seem to find any reviews.
Never tried it
Were you able to get the Flexi fixed?
New one came in yesterday
Been debating between a Henson mild and a mamba .53 any suggestions?
The Henson is hard to beat
Is it OK to use gel foam in a pressure can? Or is it necessary to do the brush lather thing?
It’s definitely OK. You’re going to get just OK results. If you purchase a premium soap or cream in a puck and use a Lathering brush on your face, you’re going to add a level of slickness for the razor to just glide a crossed.
The Merjur 34c is the way to go if one only owns one. I agree with you re Henson.if you miss the angle it's a useless razor.
👍
top video👍have a nice weekend
Same to you
Can you shave “downstairs” with these?
Yes
Do you think its possible for someone to be able to master using the straight razor on their own head, or do you think its too much hassle? I do think the straight razor gets closer than any others and I have seen people use it on themselves. Thanks
I think if you do anything enough, you're eventually going to master it. I like watching Barber T.
What would you recommend as a adjustable razor similar to the muhle r89.
Rockwell 6C
BEST RAZOR for a NOOB

What is your favorite out of all of those?
Anything Rockwell. If I had too just pick one. T2ss

"Noobs!" LMAO! Are you a Marine?
No. Semper Fi
My opinion for the best and easiest to obtain for wet shaving 🪒 is the Van Der Hagen, it comes with 5 of their blades. Made in Germany and Boy it is fantastic for what it is and what you get for 25$.
Second Best which i only have these three is the WCS Midnight 175b closed comb and 84b open comb. Heavier than the Van der Hagen and what is not to like about a Monochrome DE Razor.
👍
