- Noticed I haven't done a Special Investigation with vanilla Rathalos so I decided to change that.
Rathalos in Rise and Sunbreak is an insane glow-up compared to its previous iterations. Despite being "just" Rathalos, this monster has an amazing moveset and feels amazing to fight all around.
Rathalos got the same treatment as Kushala Daora, fighting longer on the ground, and if it ever starts flying, it's not for very long, and it still stays pretty vulnerable even in the air, sometimes flying just to do one move, and then landing right after.
My only gripes with Rathalos are its Wyvern Riding handling and exhausted state. The way I handle Rathalos easier when riding it is by pressing the B button very late into the animation it does after being wallbanged. Its exhausted state is mainly a problem againsts Afflicted variants, and I hate how much it spams its charge during it.
It is one of my favorite fights with Hammer in this game, and I ranked him in the A tier in my Sunbreak monsters tier list.
Apex Rathian is one of my favorite monsters when it comes to looks alone. She has one of my favorite roar animation in the entire series. Her scars and color palette make her look like a zombie.
She is an amazing fight and is an improvement over Dreadqueen Rathian in some aspects. She flies a little more than the other Rathians, and also stays relatively vulnerable even in that state.
She's also among the rare Raths that needs her head broken once in order to deal full damage to it. One thing that always cracks me up with Apex Rathian is the fart sound her tail spikes make whenever they hit a surface lmao.
This was a very good run, sub 8:30 is actually nuts for a special investigation.

Rathalos is soo good in Sunbreak. And I have seen plenty of people getting one-tapped by his fire attacks. Man I have had that much fun with IG against him.
Apexes still leave a bitter taste. But that's why I think the deviants could very likely return for mh6. Maybe they only bring them back every 10 years for their anniversary titles.
I can see Capcom being that kind of perfectionists.

Rathalos pisses me off when I'm playing an unshielded weapon outside of arena. The amount of times he's done that hop-back fireball and it's one shotted me because I'm running MoH...
