- One of my hardest challenges yet. This didn't take me too many tries since I know the matchup by heart, maybe 5, but it was still a very long test of endurance. I carted a few times.
It was very difficult preventing at least one explosion from Magnamalo, Strength is just a bit too weak that even landing great damage on Magnamalo's face could sometime not even pop a Qurio Core.
So, Special Investigation monsters have a ton of HP. Count somewhere between 120 and 150k HP probably for most, for a solo player. They gain an additional ~7-10k HP on top if they are in arena locale such as the Infernal Springs.
Even with that arena HP increase though it's still probably better to hunt them there since single area kills in a normal locale is probably impossible.
Additionally some monsters will have larger AoE attacks. Special Magnamalo's hellfire balls are much bigger for example.
I wanted to get this out first after making my TU5 video since Magnamalo is such a signature matchup of my channel. I mastered this fight over and over with Hammer. I did get punished a few times in this run but nothing too big.

Decided to take seriously the hammer this time, and went through the whole base game with it.

Rise/Sunbreak is the easiest, just look at every content made for this game is boring as fuck, all you see High damage ,counter spam and 2:80 minutes speed runs.
@@chito2701 Yeah, that's the whole point of speedruns. Dealing as much damage as possible to a monster until it dies or is captured. And I wouldn't call it easy when half the skills that even allow for the absurdly low times require the player to be in a health range that even a vespoid can 1 shot.
@@imthe_catmanthat's exactly my point, you don't need to repeat it, Rise/Sunbreak whole content only revolves around speed runs, High damage and counter spam, because the game forces you to.
this isn't about skill, it's more like " DEAL ENOUGH HIGH DAMAGE SO THE MONSTER DIES BEFORE IT CAN RETALIATE". because the Dev's can't make an actual challenging Hunt without giving MONSTERS one shot moves, AOE Bullshit and homing missile level of tracking.
@@chito2701 I think you just dislike mh speedrunning in general and need to find other youtubers that handle non-speedrunning content, like Rurikhan.
I'm not interested in keeping this argument going so i'm going to agree to disagree and go back to enjoying the video game.

I think there was mention of a special title or badge or something like that you can get if you do enough different ones.
Nothing really worthy, doing those is just for the challenge.
@@dynamo_lynn hey mate, I'm really struggling trying to effectively get through the ranks while being able to upgrade my weapons efficiently. Should I really just grind the same couple of monsters over and over to level them as I rank or should I focus more on variety to build up the research rank then search for the specific monsters after reaching the required brackets?
@@KyloB Your question is a bit difficult to understand... I'm assuming what you mean is that you are currently going through the story of Sunbreak with Hammer. When going through the story and progressing through the game in general I really recommend sticking with Strength Hammer. Your best pick is the Kamura Hammer and then switching to Gaismagorm until you can get Scorned Magnamalo's.
@@dynamo_lynn sorry I'll clarify a bit better, I mean anomalous research ranks. I'm currently at 185, and MR 380 so the story isn't much of my concern. The main issue I had for example is that to get my weapons upgraded I had to for example grind bazelgeuse or gore to 181, scorned/gold rath to 141 and seregios/togrex to I think 161 (might have some numbers swapped) I just want to know how you did it, or what you would suggest. Is it viable to just do random investigations until you get to the higher levels you need for your weapon upgrade, then try to find the specific monsters?
I find it absolutely hilarious that Capcoms answer to making a fight harder now defaults to "Make the projectiles bigger if they have them"
That's also what they did in world but I see what you mean. It also has to do with it being made with some of the frontier devs which if you've seen their high difficulty fights, you understand were the inspiration is from.

Some monsters go a bit higher tho like Silver Rath and Chaotic Gore for example at around 180k and the highest I've seen so far is Pyre Rakna Kadaki in the Arena with 220k HP.
220k on Pyre... Solo? You got to be kidding me she's already one of the tankiest shit in the game lmao

I just wish they could make a mh where you have such a huge and vivid wolrd like mh world, a beautyfull, great, and personalysed combat just like rise and so much variety of monsters and weapons like frontier. If they managed to do it( even tought all this would be really hard and almost impossible even for capcon) it would be probably one of if not the best game to ever be created

Have you done many special investigations at this point? The health increase is obviously substantial, but I wonder if increasing the size of aoe attacks really adds much difficulty? Like, what monster’s difficulty increased the most with special investigations?
Bigger aoe on flaming espinas sounds like hell.
They're not that much difficult there's only a couple of their moves that get bigger AoEs. Rathian's fireballs are even bigger for example.

When do you decide to use 2x lvl3 charged attacks instead of big bang attack? Do you just know that some topples take longer and therefore choose one over the other? Or is it because the charge buff move had ran out and therefore big bang was the better option?
There are no charge buffs for Strength hammer, thats the only part of your question I'm confused by.
Otherwise you are correct, 2x level 3 charge is more damage but I only use it on openings where I know I have time to pull it off.

I'm not sure why you're talking about exactly, are you talking about Keeping Sway, the quick dash forward with a Wirebug?
interesting - blast on scorned magna? I take it the BUB bonus outweighs his resistance to blast (assuming he is resistant to blast)? great run and superb use of intrepid heart!
Yes, it does very, VERY much. Buildup Boost triggers when you inflict status buildup on a monster, not when the status takes effect. And doing 20% more damage on every third hit is absolutely huge. It's why the Scorned Magnamalo Great Sword is the best in the game.
As mentioned BuB activates on every build up hit, not the blast explosion proc. It's the damage increase of BuB that matters, not blast itself.
@@JanusHoW Well, it's no longer the best, if we're being technical. Lucent now outdamages it thanks to the new augments and build possibilities, not to mention Amatsu's GS allows for an alternative playstyle that revolves entirely around use of SAS, more so than normal because of the Silkbind boost it provides.

Are followers and/or palicoes more a distraction for these Special Invetigation monsters or was complete solo'ing the plan?
Complete soloing was the plan. I like fighting Magnamalo alone, doesn't matter how long it takes.
I didn't miss the Dango Booster, it's greyed out at the end of the quest because its a skill that runs out after 8 minutes into a quest.
What layered armor are you wearing?
A question from a relatively inexperienced Hammer player: a couple times here you go for Big Bang instead of a Lvl3 Charge. Why?
It depends on how much time I have for the opening. On shorter openings I tend to go for Big Bang sometimes. When a Monster gets KO'd a fourth time the KO will last shorter, so I use Big Bang Combo.

I just can't understand why it has so much health. It literally exploded while recieving constant DPS with dereliction.
I think it's a matter of Strength Hammer being just a slight bit underpowered compared to elemental Courage hammer.

Hammer lost its weight in rise. It felt like 1ton in wolrd and like 50 kg in rise

The elemental hitzones on the magnamalos are just below the threshold where elemental damage outdoes raw
The Almudron Hammer is a Courage-dedicated pick. This is a Strength Hammer run.

@@vonix9199 Use whatever you want and prefer playing. From my views on my channel I can tell most prefer Strength cause it's the closest to classic Hammer. Courage is about 30% stronger than Strength though, even more if you hunt with Palamutes.

Bigger radius on some AoE moves/breath attacks, and about double their normal HP.

Hell I rather fight scorned on lvl 1000 than his normal version. I absolutely despise normal magnamalo. Anyone else who thinks scorned is the much better monster?
I like both versions but I find scorned a better fight the fact he can oneshot you at any point its amazing haha but he also takes a lot of damge in the arms so its kinda fair

scorned felt easier for dual sword for me...magnamalo doesnt have burst attack like scorned so in lower level we clearly see scorned magnamalo harder...but when at end game level where both monster hit like a truck..normal magnamlo take the cakes for being harder
