@@7Roeth I always imagine Jerry singing this part to Layne. Even though Layne *changed* for the worse, that didn't stop Jerry from *loving* him any less. He remained his friend through thick and thin.
I loved Layne as much as the next AIC fan, but this guy is a really solid vocalist. So until we can resurrect the dead, not sure what people are expecting to happen.
Sobre a ressureição é fato... até lá vamos nos solidificar nesse conhecimento que vem do nosso criador e seu filho jesus... para recebermos layne com um abraço
I admire his courage to do what he does. It's literally impossible to replace Layne Staley and he knew many people would expect exactly that or else they wouldn't support it. I know a lot of AIC fans that just can't accept him. The guy has serious talent and balls the size of grapefruits. I will say this. Jerry and William do not sound as good harmonizing as Jerry and Layne did. Not that they sound bad. Far from it!
Like a lot of people , i resisted Liking Duvall. When you pay attention , he's pretty damn good. I can't imagine anyone else that could fit in like that, He is pure talent.
Jerry's vocal contributions are so underrated, you can hear him creating that same haunting, nasal, snarly, crying effect he always did that created AIC's signature sound when paired with the lead vocal of Layne at the time. It worked a little better with Layne but sounds good with Duvall too.
The Jerry layne vocal duo was the best ever in hard rock/metal imo but Duvall and Jerry are incredibly good together too and probably the best currently, not quite Jerry layne level but close and they’ve got fantastic chemistry, they done some really stellar acoustic performances together. Jerry’s vocals were always underrated in the Layne days tho I agree with you there, really added a lot to the music and their sound and was overlooked by many people
Fantastic performance of a fantastic song. If you can't get on board with Duvall singing then your loss because this is bliss for all of us who thought they'd never play again after Layne passed.
There are “No Excuses” for you to miss Alice In Chains this Sunday, Aug. 3rd, at 8PM on DIRECTV Audience channel 239. Hosted by Nic Harcourt, presented by JBL.
I had such fears when I clicked the thumbnail. Quite presently surprised. No - you'll never *replace* the original. But you *can* do honor to it, and continue the legacy…
The New Vocalist Is Fucking Good. It's Good How He Picks Up Where Layne Left Off And The Dynamic May Be A Little Different But Still True To What Makes Alice In Chains Great To Listen To.
I agree fully. Will is not doing a Layne impression but is doing something great and it melts together seamlessly and flawlessly with Jerry. Songs like Check My Brain and Your Decision are amazing and even the new album Rainer Fog is excellent. Long live AiC.
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 definitely. While this does make me miss Layne. If I heard this verison of alice in chains first it would still rock just as well for me.
I am so glad that Jerry was able to find a great friend and singer to keep AiC alive and kicking with. I love the stuff with Layne forever but he died too soon and Jerry was the core of this band and I am so happy he was able to get in the groove with Will and put out some more great AiC music.

kawabunga I’m in a band and we all get better with time, that’s why they sound so good. Jerry works hard, William works hard and Sean and Mike are the legwork. It’s a machine and they are so good now. I think they’re better than they’ve ever been

This is by far my most favorite song by AiC. The original album version, the unplugged version, and the Duvall era version are all different and I love them all. This latest version seems seems to embody a bit of a 'California' feel to it and is more upbeat than its predecessors.
What an impressive performance! It's so heart warming to see the band still kicking ass even after every blow they've been dealt over the last 30 years.
This made me cry. I love this band so freaking much. Seeing Cantrell moving on and continuing, the legacy his band created, after the passing of Layne is so beautiful & strong of them. As a fan has said before, DuVall isn't a replacement. He's an addition. I love this band with all of my heart. Thank you Jerry, Mike, Sean for continuing. Thank you DuVall for honouring Layne.
I love the original AIC as much as anyone. But, this grown up incarnation are extremely polished & kicking all sorts of ass! William Duvall is an amazing musician & singer. He pays mad respect to Layne always!
I wish they could get a third voice in there on the chorus, just like in the studio recording on "Jar of Flies." It makes the chorus so much more haunting!
Love this show & love AIC. Can't wait to see this & have them discuss their history. Very few bands have been able to continue on after such a hit, but they're another AC/DC.
I went to the GC here in Killeen and played one of the twelve strings they have there and this rhythm track sounds ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL when played on a 12 string.
A very amazing performance! Only thing missing was the fairly abundant Reverb that's present on the studio version being applied to the drums. A huge element in this song is the drums so it's very noticeable and distracting to me. However I still really enjoyed this performance because everything other than the drums were just pure gold! I just wish this had those HUGE drum sounds like it does on the original studio version.
Charles Ross You took the words right out of my mouth. The powerful sound of the drums on the original EP version just totally pierced through your spine from the first stick drop. Like a shotgun bang!
"you my friend i will defend, and if we change, well i love you anyway" always makes me emotional
You’re not kidding! Me too. This song makes me cry sometimes.
Yeah I think we’ve all had a friend we’ve loved that we lost. Omg it hurts me
@@matthewtownsend2368 May you find strength in this song like i do, brother 👍
Its a great lyric, I always recognize it too. It speaks to the integrity of a relationship that many people seem to never find imo.

It must hurt Jerry's heart a bit every time they play this song. RIP Layne.
Damn. Jerry never deteriorates. He's as good today as 1991.
It’s rare that the most commercial song on an album/EP is my favourite, but No Excuses is an exception. What a song.
Long live this fucking band
fuck yeah man
William DuVall kicks ass! He nails it every time, with every single note he sings.
Could not have said it any better...
No,he doesn't.
Duvall does a dam god job

I am disagree. Duvall sounds like Duvall trying copying Layne. And its not a good.
I love every instrument including vocals in this song. Everything in harmony makes this song.
Beat vocal duo in the history of rock

Omg it’s the best live version I’ve ever heard!
They get better with age. William is amazing, Laynes memory will always be there but William works harder. This is my favorite band ever

Duvall is amazing and he plays. Soooo good. Miss Layne of course.
Very good performance.
This sounds exactly like how it did on MTV Unplugged all those years ago. Simply an amazing band.
I had doubts but this vocalist is great ... perfect his style

Respect Sean for putting those initials on big drum.
Will's vice is pure gold

Miss Jerry's hair! Still a bad ass, even in that Fedora.
Luckily he’s got it back these days and some badass facial hair

I've been listening to this band for 20+ years, and they just get better with age! Fucking love you guys!

He may not be Layne but William was a perfect choice to take over

“Drain the Moo-ood, happy for youuu... you think it’s funny, well you’re drowning in it too”
