Don't care what anyone says... William has paid his dues and does the old music complete justice not to mention I dig the new material as well. AIC is breathing a new breath of life now
This is one of those bands where you start playing this song and you say "This is my favorite song of theirs"...then you play another one down the list and you say "No!! This is my favorite song of theirs"...then you play another one down the list and say "No! This one is"! lol
k123332 Perfectly said! It’s the same for me for both Staley/Post-Staley eras. Not sure which song is favorite from either, but both kick fucking ass. Anyone on the anti-Duvall bandwagon should perhaps take a chill pill and consider how biased they are; and I’m not a ❄️ either.
Mike is tuned down a whole step to bend that note further up the neck. Love that he plays different tuning and pulls out chords when he can. Not conventional for a bass player that’s why he’s a beast.
I think he's in drop c# tuning if you check the tab, but that's a trick other bands use. Hangar 18 by Megadeth is drop D tuned in studio and the band used standard and Ellefson used a 5 string live for ease of access to the notes. It would sound weird if the whole bass was whole step down standard if the band uses half step down on their stuff AIC also has Drop C# stuff but this is a regular D# tuning song
Just like Layne and Jerry did! Will is so awesome. Very rarely can a lead singer he replaced and have it work out. Van Halen did it (in my opinion) and Pink Floyd (Syd was a legend but David IS Pink Floyd)
@@flightofthebumblebee9529 Van Halen did it perfectly… I prefer Sammy over David. Another one in my opinion that did it, was Anthrax… I also prefer John over Joe… but As you all noticed, I have a weird taste
@@OcelotDAD I think it’s heavier but idt slower, I think it’s about the same, old AIC had a lot of fast paced stuff like dam that river type songs but they also had a lot of slow sludgy stuff too like grind or sludge factory etc, same goes for today they have some faster stuff but also a bunch of slower sludgier stuff and then both versions of AIC had those great acoustic songs that were always slower.

I understand that everyone's upset that Layne is gone, but from a musical perspective William is doing just as well as Layne did. I assume people are just complaining because people always complain when change happens.
No, he's not. Listen to him sing Again. He sounds off. It's okay, he's still really good, but he doesn't even come slightly close to comparing to Layne.
with Duvall on guitar, I guess Cantrell gets more freedom on creative sides as now he doesn't have to do it all during the lives and and so on. Duvall is definitely not a replacement of Layne but an addition to the band that is helping them survive.
@@jasonren666: By bending into the note, rather than fretting it straight. It's still a Jerry Cantrell 0-1-2-3 riff, but it's a different journey to the same destination.
Yeah, I was wondering what the LSMS was... I figured it was initials.... But, Mike is here playing bass in the video, so I'm confused.... Edit: nevermind, lol. I didn't realize that Starr left the band early on, right after the DIRT album.
Wow! Alice In Chains is often too heavy and dark for me, but theres nothing like them. Simply in their own category. Melody and dark heaviness. Cantrell is one of a kind.
Great decision, Nirvana is cool but AIC is the best. Hope you’ve listened to Jerry’s solo stuff, specifically degradation trip vol1&2 which is a masterpiece and has a lot of similar vibes to AIC music.
I love Layne I really do. Like no other But Alice in Chains is JERRY AND WILL ALWAYS BE JERRY It doesn't matter who is the other...duvall, staley If we have Jerry, Aic will never die Respect for him above all else.
I agree. I heard Will jam with AiC back in a live show in 2006 or something and knew he WAS the right guy. I adore 90s grunge and loved Layne but Jerry deserved to make the call to continue and he made the right call clearly. PS Jerry put out 2 solo album which are fuckin great.
Yes ! Jerry's sound is what makes AIC . It still sounds just like them .. Layne will always be the most popular voice of the band . But Jerry's style is AIC .Period
There will never be another Layne Staley - he was a once-in-a-lifetime vocal force of nature. That being said, the new singer is terrific in his own right and the sound of his voice and Jerry's together works exceptionally well.
Duvall seems like a pretty cool dude. I can accept him as a member of AIC but I'll always wonder what Layne would have sounded like with the new songs.
He’d probably sound good like always but truthfully if he managed to still be alive his voice would probably be a shell of what it used to be after all the drug usage and lack of caring for himself. Even later AIC stuff his voice was a lot weaker than before, still an excellent singer even then tho, you could just see his voice slowly getting weaker over time with all the drug usage. Anyway it’s a shame he didn’t give us the chance to see him in the new material but will kicks total ass on the new stuff, plus his extra guitar adds a lot to the band especially Their live sound. They’ve sounded phenomenal on the 3 headlining tours they’ve gone on for their new albums.

Much love and respect for Layne Staley & Mike Starr initials on the bass drum cover. This is how you make your band great after 2 of its original members are already gone.
I continue to be impressed how amazing a job DuVall turns in. He's honoring the tradition with his own stamp. Frankly, anyone who isn't LS is going to turn off a big part of the AIC fanbase. Okay, fine. You have three albums and 2 ep's to keep listening to. But don't deny the vastly underrated talent of Jerry, Mike and Shawn to keep going. That said, hearing Layne Staley sing this song would be great. Nothing personal, WIlliam. You're awesome.
Although Layne created great songs we only played simple riffs on the guitar. He played better drums than guitar. Duvall plays guitar much better than Layne did.

Don't care what anyone says... William has paid his dues and does the old music complete justice not to mention I dig the new material as well. AIC is breathing a new breath of life now
I like him. I think he's great for the band and doesn't try to be Layne. Which makes the songs come across as genuine.
Not a lot of 80s/90s hard rock/metal acts are still putting out good material. AIC is one of the very few.
Damn right
I agree, and when you say that it reminds me of Damage plan. Breathing new life.
Duvall is the man
Jerry looks like a math teacher joining his now famous former high school band mates for a special guest appearance.
Glad he’s back to his vintage long hair look, even rockin some badass facial hair these days and some dope hats
lmaoo underrated comment 🤣😂

I completely agree with you, i love their new album! But you got to admit, the first time you hear something is forever gonna be the best time.

Love this riff! This is such a classic Cantrell styled riff. Takes me back to the good ol days....
the riff makes it sound like a wobbly tape i dont know how they did it but its great
Reminds me a little of that sick riff in "It Ain't Like that."
