I love all 3 of you. I’m a 30-year nurse so you know I recognize good physicians! Looking forward to Dr. Makary’s book. Thanks for keeping me sane through COVID and beyond! (Algorithm check)
My ovaries started failing in my mid 30s. I’m so thankful for my specialists that prescribed HRT for me. I’m 46 now. I have healthy bones and feel good. I don’t ever want to stop taking it.
Congrats on having educated, independent thinking doctors. The stats I have found in my general reading say that if a woman has her ovaries removed at age 40 or younger , her chances of dementia later in life increases substantially. If you chose to go off hormones at the average age of menopause don't go off them cold turkey or you will have intense, debilitating symptoms. You need to decrease your hormones gradually over about 6 months to a year. Hopefully your sensible docs already know this.
Omg thank you thank you! I just walked out of my OBGYN office when she told me that HRT was basically going to kill me and caused me to have a stroke, heart attack, and breast cancer. I knew better because I listen to Rich Roll podcast and heard him interview a hormone specialist who said exactly what you just did. Thanks for the validation. I have a telehealth appointment tomorrow with a doctor or NP who is a certified menopause specialist.
Good for you!♥️♥️♥️ I am so glad that you didnt listen to your obygn!! Every woman should use HRT if they dont have a cancer that prevent it,because HRT is the only thing that will protect women against heart-disease and other heart problems and also cancers! And it also takes way the brainfog and the reduction of the brain size!! And women also need to get testosteron, because then you get your energy back and your lust and you reduce losing your muscles!! I am going on HRT too! I have appointment with a doctor this month!😊😊😊 Hugs from Norway❤
Such a wonderful podcast! I am one of the nurses in the Harvard based nurses study, and have been on HRT for 30 years since menopause. This could be a great opportunity for data for long term use of HRT.
My son in law was diagnosed with panarctic cancer in March of 22 , he had many complications with chemo but was able to have the Whipple Procedure in January of 2023 , he is working , gaining weight and looking great we are so thankful to modern medicine in America . His surgery was preformed in Birmingham Alabama . He turns 44 next week .
Appreciate all 3 of you guys. Not many places you can find people with this intellect who so effortlessly mix in comedy. Also, I love the Covid 19 warning label on this episode. You could cut the irony with a spoon!
I would for sure be in a study. Have been on HRT since 40 following partial hysterectomy, now 66. Dispite docs saying you don't need it, you should quit, I instinctively knew to stay on it.
I miss seeing the three of you chat. So much information along with humor. I miss the VPZD show! Glad you were on again. Definitely buying the book. Watched Dr Marty Makari chat with Dhru Purohit and Dr Hyman too. Big fan, hopefully things can change in a nearer future than we anticipate.
Love all of you! Yor specialities are so appreciated! I just bought your book Blind spots Marty. Thankyou for contributing to womens healrh regarding Hrt. I just think womens healrh has been neglected for so many yrs. Thankyou Marty for your hard work! Icu nurse for 35yrs and glad i started hrt more than 10yrs before postmenopause.
This is why oral and localized estrogen medications have the famous, "black box warnings". It also has it on localized therapies for vaginal atrophy, and other issues such as repeated UTI's! I remember looking at the data and having arguments with OBGYN's about estrogen use. They'd all just say, the WHI study showed increased risk of cancer! Insane what damage that study has done! It still says that online!
I bought Dr. Makary's book last week. It's excellent, and extremely thought-provoking. We had our annual checkups right after I finished the book, and I recommended it to my doctor. She was quite interested, as she's watched our health improve significantly (my youngest daughter and I both have multiple autoimmune diseases, and I have metabolic syndrome) over the last two years, as we've been mostly on the carnivore diet -- which is another thing that *needs* to be thoroughly studied. The anecdotal reports of improvements in serious health conditions on that diet are impressive, and we've experienced some of them ourselves. If the national dietary recommendations are totally backwards, people need to know that!
Informative and interesting episode! Dr. Makary has to be in the top 3 list of my favorite VPZD guests. Wish we could listen to him talk more about objectivity and herd mentality or "conscious conditioning" like ZDogg says.
You guys are always on point and so legit. And I always enjoy the humor you bring. I got into listening to you all back in the damn Covid times. You really help reason complex topics out. All the best for Marty’s book being READ and SEEN. Thank you 😅 God bless. 🙏🏻
Wow I’m so sad, I had no idea that Marshall Allen passed away 💔. He was a truly kind person and he featured me in his never-pay-the-first-bill newsletter. RIP to a pioneer in the battle to expose the unfair billing practices of hospital conglomerates . Thankful to have you 3 honest & sane people in this time of tech algorithms and polarization 🙏🏼
Using bioidentical/body identical hormone replacement is a valuable tool for healthy aging for women. FYI: Progesterone (NOT progestins) play a much bigger role than preventing uterine hyperplasia. Progesterone is a neurosteroid, affects smooth muscle activity in the GI track, etc.
The problem in my country, the Philippines, is that HRT medications are not available anymore. Since WHI, prescriptions for HRT almost disappeared. Because of this, drug companies stopped selling HRT medications entirely. Even if we wanted to prescribe HRT, it is very difficult to find them now.
I love the way Marty thinks…definitely about medicine, but as he said, the founders effect/cognitive dissonance creates biases within us that impact everything we encounter. Anyway, ordering the book!
I always make sure to listen to these 3 doctor dudes!! I like to call the microbiome my gastric garden, gotta love it and tend to it!! I'm ready to read Makary's book now, been waiting months for it!! Here's covid, for the algorithm😁
I can't wait to read this book! Wondering if ERb receptor agonist would show a reduction in cancers. They're always concerned about anything binding to estrogen receptor alpha,(ERa) but what if you use certain high dose binding modules like ERr 731, to estrogen receptor beta (ERb), that don't bind to ERa, would you have the same result. I think there are some studies in Europe. Also, for prostate cancer, why not take high doses of ERr 731, that'll bind to the beta receptor in men. Estrogen receptor beta could be a selective target for a subtype specific therapy in prostate cancer. Thanks for the great podcast! Cheers y'all
I can tell you for me. It was a struggle in getting into my system. However, after 30-45 days, it was joy ride thereafter. Happy, thinner overall feeling amazing! Then they pulled it. The other replacement a mess, so stopped them.
Great episode! Something you're missing is the CYA component of practicing medicine. You get those antibiotics because if you didn't, something happened AND they got sued ... when they could have CYA'd with some antibiotics, you're getting the antibiotics. Besides a messed up gut isn't their problem. That's why you have GI drs and meds.
So I have a question about HRT. I totally understand somebody wanting to take it to help with symptoms or issues. But if you don’t have any, why would you take it? It seems like it is natural for us to not make these hormones anymore. I guess my question is what is affecting our body and lifestyle so that a natural process in life causes us harm like a heart attack or Alzheimer’s.
I guess you could say it’s natural to get frail and develop osteopenia as an aging woman. However, if it’s avoidable or at least reducible why not do that? The natural aging process is ugly.
Lifestyle choices are huge overall on the quality of our lives as we age, such as: Plant based or Mediterranean diet, strength training exercises, community service, and intellectual lifetime learning.
There is no reason to take MHT if you have no symptoms. Makary cherry-picked research and some how came up with numbers, re preventing disease, that are not based in reality. It's been an uphill battle fighting social media menopause influencers and now Makary has made it that much harder.
I absolutely LOVE the dynamic of this 3some! Not only do I find it incredibly informative, I find myself laughing out loud as I take notes. I'm going to talk to my Gyno about HRT (I'm a 54 yo female). Ive purchased Blind Spots and soo look forward to reading it! Sending love and gratitude! (KEEP THE SHOWS COMING❤) RN from UT
I'm 67 and went on low dose HRT at menopause. I am healthier, more active, stronger, and look younger than most women my age. I continued with walking, yoga, weight lifting, hiking, etc. I have never had a hot flash or any of the menopause symptoms women complain about. I also take vitamin and herbal supplements.
I absolutely loved the conversation about antibiotic resistance. That is one of the things that actually does concern me quite a bit that I feel like isn't getting enough attention. Also, listening to Vinay at 1.5 x is a challenge I actually enjoyed. Great conversation and very interesting about HRT as well.
I have such mixed feelings about HRT because I’m a breast cancer survivor & it was a hormone based cancer. I want to feel better (meaning this menopause bs) but my oncologist is not on board when it comes to HRT. And I definitely don’t want the cancer back, but menopause is kicking my ass! I hope for the sake of all women they do more research on this subject.
I pre-ordered the book and can’t wait to read it! I love your show and love the banter. Also, I just have to throw in the word Covid for the algorithm. 😉
FWIW, I’m 65 and using bio-identical HRT. When I started this some years ago, I was told that the problem with PremPro was that the synthetic progestins were the cause of the breast cancer. 🤷🏼♀️
I can shed light on at least my telemedicine company that we have a strict policy against treating otitis media. Lots of unhappy parents who don’t want to go to a walk in clinic. But we try to have good antibiotic stewardship.
I'm nearly as past as you, only adds 3 years of life would not incite me to take meds. Anyway, every year of life past menopause should be viewed as a bonus. Only humans are obsessed with living past our time, and demand medical interventions to give us our obsessions.
I love all 3 of you. I’m a 30-year nurse so you know I recognize good physicians! Looking forward to Dr. Makary’s book. Thanks for keeping me sane through COVID and beyond! (Algorithm check)
Marty is a gem.
I have been on HRT for many years and I feel so good! Keeps me balanced.
As a school nurse, I totally agree with looking into the school lunch program. Let's give kids crap food and then expect them to feel good and learn.
Farmers don't feed their livestock the way we are feeding our children, so crazy!
As a Bio teacher, much of school lunches is bad!
Thanks for getting the band back together!
Please continue these conversations ❤they are so needed! You are the best! All 3 of you! Pleeeeeese
I appreciate the whole Sensible Medicine team. Thank you, all - for giving us insight into your worldviews as physicians.☮️❤️🎶

My favorite podcast is when these 3 get together.
Appreciate all 3 of you guys. Not many places you can find people with this intellect who so effortlessly mix in comedy. Also, I love the Covid 19 warning label on this episode. You could cut the irony with a spoon!
I LOVE listening to you guys!!!
What you describe as far as challenging your personal bias is simply humility. Which is a rare (and spiritual) quality among medical professionals.
Great show...thanks to Marty
I would for sure be in a study. Have been on HRT since 40 following partial hysterectomy, now 66. Dispite docs saying you don't need it, you should quit, I instinctively knew to stay on it.
Love these three docs, always learn new things while getting lots of laughs.
Great discussion and thank you Marty!

I love these episodes when the 3 of you are together! I can't wait to get my book! Thank you for keeping it real!
I love you brilliant doctors!! And you are all hilarious!! Can’t wait to read this book!!

I love you guys!!!! Thank you for keeping doctors who question the status quo sane!!!!❤😂
Thanks guys! Too late for my generation for HRT but hopefully we will know by the time our daughters come of age
PLEASE tell me there's an Audible version of this book with Zubin as narrator!!! 😃😃
Another great show!
Went to buy his book on Amazon…. Sold out! Incredible!
I so enjoy this episode and buying the book today.
Thanks! Now I know what 'm getting my mom for Christmas! We're both old nurses and love you guys!!
Loved this episode!
Great discussion as always.
So very much appreciate your content! Keep it coming! Also, pre-ordered!😉
I agree, I love the microbiome "garden" vs germs! Great video. Ready to read the book
I love the contrast and augmentation of the different perspectives. Good show.
Loved this show! Book purchased and looking forward to reading it!
🇦🇺🦘🦘well done chaps! Informati e and entertaining.
sublime! I agree that Vinay Prasad should have a major governmental role.
Oh, love the banter!!
High five for doctors/nurses/ medical professionals questioning the American Medical status quo…really enjoyed this video, thank you gentlemen! 😊
Also, here’s a high five for the COVID algorithm 😂
Pre-ordered! Love Sensible Medicine, love the podcast. I don't agree with everything (but do agree with most things) but I respect the opinion
Informative and interesting episode! Dr. Makary has to be in the top 3 list of my favorite VPZD guests. Wish we could listen to him talk more about objectivity and herd mentality or "conscious conditioning" like ZDogg says.
Just found my next read. Love you guys ❤
Great show!! I’m a retired hospital pharmacist- the antibiotic police!!
I ordered the book. It’s currently on back order! I can’t wait to get it…
Saw Megyn Kelly's interview of Marty -- really informative..... this conversation too!
I am going to buy my doctor a copy of this book. At an independent bookstore!
I ordered a copy of Dr. Makary's book@
Marty’s book is sold out on Amazon. Wow!

Dr. Makary, I hope you are planning a thorough take down book on covid, please, please, please.

45:34 love the idea and would totally want to watch that debate VP!
Thank you guys. Great episode!
Good stuff. You guys just need an old retired doc with 150,000 patient visits to add to the banter of silliness and intellectual discussion.
Love you guys... Always fun listening to The VPZD Show !!! MORE EPISODES PLEASE!!!!.... COVID😂
Book on Amazon out of stock today, so I placed an order. Thank you!
You guys make the subject of HRT and microbiome so much fun.

Covid Covid Covid. Hope this helps. I am a disenchanted oncologist…you all give me hope. Thank you.
Ostomy nurse here. It’s all about the poo…. This talk is amazing. Thank you….
I’ll be in the trial if you design the correct one ! Let me know. I’m 18 months into “the menopause” and it’s awful, to put it politely 😊.
Semmelweis, one of my favorite stories. Poor guy.
Does Dr. Sarrel's work on HRT, and how estradiol seems to help brain neurons in octopuses, is there anything equivalent in the TRT area?
1. Where can I get my own Sensible Medicine Merch? 2. Dr. Makary, please come to Seattle for a book signing!!
I pre-ordered the book and can’t wait to read it! I love your show and love the banter. Also, I just have to throw in the word Covid for the algorithm. 😉

Covid. Thanks for the great information and joyful method of sharing. I’m too late for the HRT but will share with my daughter in laws.
I can shed light on at least my telemedicine company that we have a strict policy against treating otitis media. Lots of unhappy parents who don’t want to go to a walk in clinic. But we try to have good antibiotic stewardship.
I just purchased Blind Spots earlier today (10/13/2024).
Last period 12 yrs ago. Technically menopause 11 yrs. Wonder if I’m too late? Book comes out on kindle tomorrow (I hope it’s true).Cant wait to read!
