  • Renault Megane E-Tech vs Volkswagen ID.3 Euro Crash & Safety Tests Euro NCAP
Tested Model Megane E-Tech EV60 220ch 'Techno', LHD
Body Type - 5 door hatchback
    Year Of Publication 2022
    Kerb Weight 1636kg
VIN From Which Rating Applies - all Megane E-Techs
    Class Small Family Car
The passenger compartment of the Megane E-Tech remained stable in the frontal offset test. Dummy numbers showed good protection of the knees and femurs of both the driver and passenger. Renault showed that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants
of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. Apart from the driver’s chest, protection of which was adequate, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate. Analysis of the deceleration of the impact trolley during the test, and analysis of the deformable barrier after the test, revealed that the Megane E-Tech would be a moderately benign impact partner in a frontal collision. In the full-width rigid barrier test, good or adequate protection was provided to all critical body areas, for both the driver and rear passenger.
In the side barrier test, protection of all critical body areas was good and the car scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of all critical body areas was good or adequate. Control of excursion (the extent to which a
body is thrown to the other side of the vehicle when it is hit from the far side) was found to be marginal. The Megane E-Tech has a countermeasure to mitigate against occupant-to-occupant injuries in such impacts and this performed well in Euro NCAP's test. Tests on
the front seats and head restraints demonstrated marginal protection against whiplash injuries in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric analysis of the rear seats indicated good whiplash protection. The Megane E-Tech has an advanced eCall system which alerts
the emergency services in the event of a crash, but there is no system to prevent secondary impacts after the car has been in a collision.
Tested Model VW ID.3 'Pro', LHD
Body Type - 5 door hatchback
    Year Of Publication 2020
    Kerb Weight 1857kg
VIN From Which Rating Applies - all ID.3s
    Class Small Family Car
The passenger compartment remained stable in the offset frontal test. For the passenger dummy, protection of all critical body areas was good. Protection of the driver's chest was rated as marginal, based on dummy measurements of compression. For both dummies,
protection of the knees and femurs was good. VW demonstrated that a similar level of protection would be provided to occupants of different sizes and to those sitting in different positions. The ID.3's front-end structure did not cause excessive deformation in the test barrier, indicating a reasonably benign front structure. In the full-width, rigid wall test, protection was good or adequate for all critical body regions for both the driver and the rear seat passenger. In the side barrier test, representing a collision by another vehicle, protection of all critical body areas was good. In the more severe side pole impact, protection of all body regions was good apart from the chest, for
which readings of rib compression indicated marginal protection. In an assessment of protection in far-side impact, dummy excursion (its movement towards the other side of the vehicle) was rated as poor although dummy measurements were good. The ID.3 is equipped with
a centre airbag to protect against occupant-to-occupant interaction in side impacts. This system worked well in Euro NCAP's test, with good protection of the head for both front seat occupants. Tests on the front seats and head restraints demonstrated good protection against whiplash injury in the event of a rear-end collision. A geometric assessment of the rear seats also indicated good whiplash protection. The ID.3 is equipped as standard with a multi-collision braking system, which applies the brakes immediately after an impact to prevent the vehicle from being involved in secondary impacts. The car also has an advanced e-Call system which, in the event of an
accident, automatically sends a message to the emergency services, giving the car's location.
In both the frontal offset test and the side barrier impact, protection of all critical parts of the body was good for both child dummies, and the ID.3 scored maximum points in this part of the assessment. The front passenger airbag can be disabled to allow a rearward-facing
child restraint to be used in that seating position. Clear information is provided to the driver regarding the status of the airbag and the system was rewarded. All of the restraints for which the ID.3 is designed could be properly installed and accommodated. Help us grow by supporting us:

...scheint so zu sein, dass der ID.3 hier insgesamt viel besser abschneidet als der Renault Megane E-Eech

Wenn man berücksichtigt, dass die Bewertungsjahre 20 (VW) und 21 (Renault) waren und sich die Kriterien jährlich ändern bleibt von den Abweichungen in den Prozenten nicht mehr viel übrig, so dass "viel besser" reichlich übertrieben ist.

It is terrible that Megane did not use windows' airbags during test with Front Mobile Progressive Deformable Barrier.

So, does it not have these? And excuse my ignorance, but what are these for exactly?

Not everywhere. So it depends on where you are in the car or, it could be even poor if you are a pedestrian in some case.
