I was born in 1969 and raised in a holler in Bell County Kentucky. This story warmed my heart.

What a beautiful story! Been awful lonely here for three weeks since we lost our beloved boxer Duke. He was my sidekick here on the ole place. And spent that last day with me outside all day. I'm lost and don't even want to go out. Hit me hard I think because I'm getting old. Tougher than all the others I've lost through the years. It's unbelievable how a animal, just like this old panther can become such a part of us. Thanks Jared. God bless you.

Jared you restore my faith in humanity especially during these difficult times we are in.
I grew up in Kentucky a young black kid, my best friend who always looked out for me and adored my Grandmother was Jimmy Dale a white kid two years my senior.
He past years ago and I have never been that close to someone other than my family. So many people aren’t like his family and mine.
We were neighbors in a time where we weren’t supposed to be and we cared so much for each other like we were kinfolk, in mind we were and always will be.

I loved this story. It reminded me that in our neighborhood growing up we kids shortened older folks names, like Rheba, we said Rhebee, Rhetta, we called her Rhetee, Loretta, Lorettee. Its interesting how people do that.
