the fact that this board game got a whole video shows how much attention to detail there is in this game. i love this game, game of the year in my heart
While i know it's not the correct name, as someone who recognized the game as "Sorry!" Originally, one thing stood out to me in that last moment with jimmy talking to Polle, where "Polle says: SORRY!" While on one end it is Jimmy essentially confronting his own ego and regrets, the proclamation of SORRY felt like it indicated the end of the board game.
I didn't notice all the details of the players, this is insanely cool!!! It did funnily enough make me kinda let out a sarcastic laugh when I saw the board game before, because you said it's a "friendship breaker", well, in Germany we call literally this "don't get angry" and I just thought what a great game to play for Jimmy
As a Finn, the game reminded me of Kimble (apparently known as Trouble in the US and Frustration in the UK) which practically is the same game with a slightly different layout and a device for rolling dice built into the board. Fascinating how many subtle variations there are of the same game.
I’m so glad someone made an analysis on this! As a Swede, I found it pretty interesting that they put fia med knuff in the game and pondered the possibility of the pieces being indicative of the characters roles in the stories for a bit, but ultimately ended up forgetting about it when the story was done. Istg there’s so many hidden details once you go back and play it again. Great analysis!
This is fascinating!! I never thought much about the game and had assumed that the board changing was just it having been jostled by the crash but this analysis of it is brilliant and I’ll definitely be paying more attention to the board when I play the game next.
this is incredible. The detail they didn't have to put in here is just... far and beyond. Everything you've said here makes perfect sense, I can't unsee it. God I love this game. Jimmy having knocked over Daisuke's piece... and about to be knocked over by Swansea's piece, if it was a fair game...... What other tiny details have I missed??
litrally all i can say about curly is that hes wwwaaaaayyyyyyy to kind and thats the reason to his downfall plus he trusts the wrong people and only knows when its too late 9:07 bro called jimbo stupid, here is a sticker!
That's amazing!!!! The fact that such a small detail of the game ended up being so symbolic of the whole story...and you caught it, like lightning in a bottle. Incredible.
Great video and analysis, but why is it that when anya gets verbally abused by Jimmy and doesn't fight back , she's a victim. but when Curly gets verbally abused by Jimmy and doesn't fight back, he's a "door mat." Jimmy verbally abused both of them. He's been violent with both of them in private. He even gaslights curly in one of their private conversations. And curly seems scared to ever make Jimmy angry. They're both victims, but curly is denied his victim status by the fandom because he's captain, Jimmy's "friend," and a man. People forget you can be an abuse victim regardless of your status, gender, and relationship to your abuser. If Curly was a woman, he wouldn't be getting as much hate tbh.
Curly is in a position above Jimmy that gives him more power to do something about his insubordination. At least theoretically. I don’t think there’s a scenario as-is on the Tulpar where a crew mate becoming aggressive like Jimmy does ends well though, because Pony Express basically handicaps any actual security to be had, with punishments and poor decisions. But yeah, because he has a higher role in the hierarchy of the team, he has more responsibility. I do think that would change if he was a female character, probably because he wouldn’t be so unaware of what a guy like Jimmy is capable of, friend or not.
He gets the hate cause he's the Captain he got Jimmy the job,and he did the evaluation. He knew Jimmy best and he brought him on board, let anya get hurt and did nothing and allowed his actions to continue which lead to the events of the game. Im sure he didn't try but he can be both,a doormat and victim
As other people have said, Curly has a position of authority on the ship and he needs to enforce the rules when people are out of line. The difference between Curly and Anya as victims of Jimmy is that Curly is in a position of power and Anya isn’t. Anya comes to him when she feels troubled about Jimmy, but Curly actively chooses not to confront Jimmy until it’s too late. Despite supposedly being the authority figure, he never actually exercises that power in any way that matters. Thus, I see him as a doormat
she literally IS a victim of jimmy, he assaulted her. do you not know anything about the game? just say you wouldn’t understand media literacy if it smacked you across the face and move on
Every day I learn a new piece of symbolism about Mouthwashing. Like, the "dead pixel" Anya was referring to being Jimmy, and Curly being too blind to see the said "dead pixel."
thank you so much for your clever analysis ! i love how thorough and detailled it is ! Despite spending 5 hours on the first playthrough, i did not take the time look closely at the board game... In fact, i thought it was just a visual pun, as in french, it's called "little horses" (petits chevaux) - I assumed it was also the english name of it ! When playing, we refer to the act of taking another players piece as "eating" it, and that wording makes the first board layout so much more disturbing, with Jimmy's piece being placed right behind Anya's... Also i can confirm it's an excellent friendship breaker. Especially when you're stupid lucky and keep on rolling 6's :)
Curly being represented by the white move spaces rather than an active player also shows how dehumanized he is that is a bit different from Anya. Jimmy doesn’t see curly we played as in certain parts but rather he only sees the bandaged, disabled curly as the one to save for his own benefit. He’s a prop to jimmys belief as a “victim who tries so hard to save everyone. Just if everyone listen to me!!!!”. That’s why the only piece in the safe zone is jimmy’s piece cause it’s all about him in the end and he steps over his friend to get there

In French, this game is named "les petits chevaux", wich translate to " the little horses". The safe space is "the ladder". Funny coïncidence...
Anya and Daisuke fighting over this game 💀

I just looked up the German version of the game and it's exactly the same. That's a very interesting fact
@@SerialIntrovert yes, it was actually super nostalgic for me to see because it's what I always played as a kid!
Us Croats call it "Čovjeće, ne ljuti se!" meaning "Dude, don't get angry!"
In Spanish it’s “No Te Enojes”
In Turkish, it's called "Kızma birader" which basically translates to "Don't Get Mad Bro"
Daisuke “ you can’t not cheat at a dice game”
As a Finn, the game reminded me of Kimble (apparently known as Trouble in the US and Frustration in the UK) which practically is the same game with a slightly different layout and a device for rolling dice built into the board. Fascinating how many subtle variations there are of the same game.
From first glance this looks identical to a game we call Fia in sweden. All except for a missing spot in the middle.

In Croatia we call this game "Čovječe ne ljuti se" (Man, don't get angry) which is ironic in Jimbo's case
Yeah- same meaning in Czech " Člověče, nezlob se"
It's the same in Dutch! Mens, erger je niet
this is incredible. The detail they didn't have to put in here is just... far and beyond. Everything you've said here makes perfect sense, I can't unsee it. God I love this game.

This video is brilliant.this whole game is brilliant.
this is very good analysis! a lot of people have mentioned the board game but i think yours have been the most comprehensive. Good job!
Wonderful analysis and very good watch! Thanks for shedding context on how the game is actually played first before explaining your findings!

I do believe this game is also called Sorry! unless that was just similar- I played it a very long time ago as a child
Yeah, it’s a very similar game
@@SerialIntrovert cool ty for answering that.
Theres gonna be more stuff like this that will get overanalysed will there? Lol
Every day I learn a new piece of symbolism about Mouthwashing. Like, the "dead pixel" Anya was referring to being Jimmy, and Curly being too blind to see the said "dead pixel."

Ahh! I was waiting for someone to do an analysis on this. Thank you!

Man, a whole video of a board game
This game is insane
