I'm excited to see how this system grows and changes. We only have this initial Core Rulebook announced right now, but I could see Modiphius releasing all sorts of expansions for different settings and pre-written campaigns. I really hope this is successful, cuz I want to play this for years down the line!
absolutely! i really think bringing fallout to the tabletop community is going to be a win and while i don’t know anything, i would imagine expansions being released in the future. modiphius has seen great success with their fallout tabletop wargame and i’m confident this will be just as well received :D
I plan on useing my area of South Florida for my setting with a few villages out in the everglades and at lest one vault out there . I'm going to turn Everglades city into one of the major trade hubs of the area and another one on the east coast near alagator ally . I used my 1st edition Gamma World from TSR and turned it into fallout not long after playing fallout 3 because there was more information in fallout 3 then previous editions plus the map had a tabletop rpg feel to it with all the locations . I'm going to use Delorme topographical maps of my area as a basis for my maps including the everglades and alagator ally and make 2 photo copies of the area maps , one for me with everything on it and one for the players with only things they would know about
I went full bore into the Wasteland Warfare RPG, so I was a little hesitant about this, but I saw the GECK box and could not help myself. I look forward to running my game in Appalachia!
Years back in high school, I made a treatment for a potential Fallout 4. It was set around the great lakes and involved trying to set up more purifiers and making a new Garden of Eden nestled in the upper part of Michigan. The upper part of the map would also obviously be set in Canada, marking what I believe is the first time we get to see our northern neighbors. With the release of this tabletop system, I finally get to use all of those long-lost ideas. I may have never been hired on as a Bethesda artist, but now all of these concepts don’t need to go to waste. Is there a community hub in which I can share some of these ideas?
Thanks for this review. I've been interested in playing an rpg set in my homestate for a while (since I don't think Bethesda will ever set a game there) and have looked into this game. I might get it in the future, hopefully there are instructions on how to create your own faction or design your own vaults.
You’re not alone! many folks picking up this game are interested in developing a fallout world based on their home town, state or different part of the world not yet covered by the fallout lore. While the book doesn’t specifically state mechanics on how you could go about this, it does provide in depth information on the settings and factions to where you could easily use this as roadmap for creating your own unique fallout experience in any part of the world.
Hey friend, thank you so much for putting these together! I didn't even know this was a thing, and I impulse bought the core rule book about a week ago. Looking forward to running a campaign with some friends! I love how the book is written; I find most questions that arise are answered immediately in the next paragraph or page. Then I wake up to this! I’m copping the legendary edition. just trying to figure out how I can get the dice system to my friends over discord...
yessss! this system compliments the fallout games so well! while i haven’t seen a discord bot yet created for the rolls there are some existing ones that folks have created modifications for to roll some of the 2d20 basics. also on the fallout2d20 subreddit i believe a saw a macro that can be used with roll20
I've been sort've making a character concept for a fallout ttrpg campaign which is basically a ghoul vault dweller who was pulled into the vault by his brother (which would be played by my brother) just after the bombs dropped. He became a ghoul but since his brother wasn't entirely exposed to radiation he had to have some limbs amputated and replaced with cybernetics. When the eventually left the vault at some point, they had some hostile run ins with the brotherhood of steel (because my character is a ghoul and they hate ghouls) over a span of a couple years my character has tamed large groups of feral ghouls. And has become a sort of mercenary and due to his own personal vendetta against the brotherhood, if a client asks him to kill a brotherhood member, he will gladly do so for much cheaper than what he typically charges. this characters personality is also pretty fun. He doesn't take shit from anyone except his brother. He will walk right up to a brotherhood of steel member all decked out in power armor and armed to the teeth, and straight up flip them off and tell them "go fuck yourself" I find his concept a lot of fun. And I figured a good setting for that campaign is probably Brooklyn because I haven't seen it given any attention in the games
Love this! I'm new to ttrpgs having just done barely my fourth session of a campaign in dnd and it's fucking amazing. But I love the post apocalyptic vibe, especially the one in fallout which doesn't seem to take itself to seriously. So naturally I ended up here after some googling and I love the fact that you've dedicated a channel for this. Ethough I probably won't have the time to dive in to the fallout ttrpg myself in quite a while you've got yourself a subscriber here. Been sorta on the fence on this one. Last Modiphius 2D20 game I bought was their Infinity RPG, which was a bit of a mess in terms of game design and book layout. I do think it's cool that they are making RPGs based on Bethesda games, like Dishonored last year and Fallout this year. Maybe this will be better?
I can understand your hesitation. I felt it too when picking this up. I can say while some things are left to the GM to fill in the blanks, Modiphius has done an excellent job covering the essentials. They've gone on to further prove their dedication to the fans and players of this game by already releasing an updated version of the PDF with notation on the edits made.
@@ThreeEyedTownie Oh, that's really cool! Any idea if the printed book will include those updates? If so, I think releasing a PDF prior to the print book for extra proof reading and feedback is a good business idea.
Thanks for making this video, was very useful in thoroughly explaining the general details yet staying brief on each topic. But I have to say that it seems very clear in this video, or at least the pictures shown and used, is that the core rulebook is solely based off of Fallout 4 because of the crafting/modding of items but because 4 is the more "standardized" Fallout game out right now. This itself isn't a problem if 4's system in the rulebook is restricted on gameplay mechanics. But if not, any idea if there will be expansions to incorporate the Capital Wasteland, the Mojave, the Wasteland seen in 1 and 2 (Forgot the actual name of the region if it has one), and even Appalachia (I actually enjoyed the map, enemies, and encounters in 76, fight me)? Or is it too soon to tell? And is preordering this worth it? I have my eye on it but I also want a physical copy and it said they would email you a pdf copy, not that I have an issue with that I just like holding the actual book in my hands when needed. I'm thinking of preordering this but I wanted to ask these questions because from the reviews it seems like the book is railroading the direction towards of 4 and people describe it "incomplete" in-terms of reaching its full potential, if that makes sense,
These are some great questions and i can definitely see where any confusion may be coming from. The game currently is based on the Fallout 4 setting and time frame, specifically, just before the "Sole Survivor's" story begins. The reason for this is that Modiphius has licensing rights for Fallout 4 IP specifically. Be that as is may, I don't feel that limits you to building your game in the boston commonwealth. You can certainly take the content here and apply it to any setting of your choice! I know many folks who are creating their games in places like New Orleans, Alaska, Texas, etc. - so think of the location content in the book as more of a roadmap for building your own ideal/preferred setting. There are some mechanics not present in the book and it has been eluded to that some additional tables and information will be available in the GM's toolkit which has not been released yet. We don't know much about what that will contain. Now, as far as future expansions with content from other games in the franchise, I would *GUESS* that its likely we'll see content being made from the other games like New Vegas. I'm 100% speculating on this and have no facts to back it up. I *THINK* this because Modiphius has expanded their Wasteland Warfare Fallout game to include content from New Vegas, when originally it was only Fallout 4 content. Now I don't think it'll be any time soon as I would imagine we'll see more content released for the games current setting before a new IP is introduced. IMO pre-ordering is worth it if you're looking to start playing as soon as possible or if you are interested in one of the limited edition sets.
@@ThreeEyedTownie Well my primary worry for keeping it to the Commonwealth isn't just because of locations but also because of gear and enemies. For example, I love the centaurs but since they do not appear in 4 I am worried they won't even be mentioned. I love using the lever action rifle (LAR) in Fallout games for the lever aesthetic but since they primarily appear in other games like NV and, for 4, the Far Harbor DLC, I do not know if it will be mentioned as the book seemed like it was based off the vanilla game with no DLC in mind. Same is said with the handmade rifle.
@@EJ_Red i hear ya, the lever action rifle is my favorite whenever i play 76 along with the handmade. fortunately a lot of good folks over on the fallout discord have started translating equipment and creatures from the other games in the video games series over to the rpg. if you’re interested in that content i would definitely suggest checking out the community and the resources being created! chances are what you’re looking for has been developed 👍
@@ThreeEyedTownie I joined the community already actually, seems like nice, helpful, and laid back people. I just wanted to ask if the book was exclusively Commonwealth oriented or is a mix of all (Bethesda) games. Going by what you said and what more I got looking up, it's safe to say it's Fallout 4-based.
Wait so I haven't seen the entire video yet, and I'm new to TTRPGs, but not RPGs in general. What I'm getting at is this sounds like Fallout 4s RPG systems modified to fit into a TTRPG, and alot less railroading of a story. Sounds pretty fun so far ngl.
YES!! The core rule book sets the game in the boston commonwealth just before the sole survivor’s story begins. BUT! You don’t have to set your game in that time or location! You can apply the rule sets and mechanics to your own custom setting like many of us are! The way the 2d20 system has been adapted for Fallout compliments the universe so well and really feels like Fallout.
Nice video, I'm definitely going to be watching the rest as although I've played plenty of different games this is probably going to be my first DM attempt. I'll need all the help I can get.
the only limitation is yourself ✨ - over on the discord community there are some great people making incredible homebrew content if you're looking for inspiration! (link in the description)
I do rather like games that don't use a specific class and level system. Being able to pick your specific advances rather than a set bundle of advances every so often just appeals to me due to my enjoyment of high detail and minutiae.
same! i’m really digging the “classless” system. origins are really cool because of the flavor they add along with the bonuses but you still have so much freedom and aren’t locked into a specific role!
I vaguely remember the fallout RPG from waaay back when and I believe you could play as a deathclaw was is totally rad ... might also have been homebrew not sure Edit I can´t spell
no comments about the errors in the book I've heard about like power armor tables for example. Also the facebook like appears to be broken, I assume link has changed?
Yeah... there's a myriad of typos and errors we were all hoping would get cleaned up in the errata... but sadly many of them made it to print. Fortunately, the community has been super proactive about this - addressing issues and correcting info. I definitely recommend joining the discord for more info on this and the community is always happy to lend a hand with proper info! Thanks for the heads up on the facebook link! it's now updated! Thanks for the comment and the support!
the internet has made our world a much smaller place and with that finding groups for games has become much easier! if you’re looking to meet other players you should hop on the fallout2d20 discord! the link is in the description of this video 😁
The great thing about how this system is set up is that you could essential run your game in any setting of your choosing! The Book provides a lot of useful lore information on factions, corporations and etc that you can incorporate into your own setting and expand upon. In fact, most people that I know that are running thiws game are doing so in their own settings in different areas of not only just the US but all over the world!
Fallout 2d20 is designed to be played in a group. One person is the Gamemaster and the others are players. I have yet to see anyone homebrew a way to run it single player but its definitely possible if you found a campaign with solo play options! Thinking about it, this would be something fun to try to design! Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching!
@@ThreeEyedTownie That would be awesome if someone could "Mod" the game into singleplayer! Like Modding New Vegas into Multiplayer, but reverse! I actually designed my own version of "Dungeons and dragons" as a kid, drew several giant maps, designed enemies and economies... It was so fun! But no one ever had the time to sit down and play it with me. (Im sure you know how long it takes to play D&D) I remember trying to make my game single-player/Multiplayer as a kid, perhaps i should buy the Fallout TTRPG and see what i can think of? But i got alot of Faith in the Fallout Community, im sure we could figure something out
if you’re looking for some help or additional resources, the fallout 2d20 discord has a bunch of great folks that’d love to help! a few people have created different character sheets that you might be interested in!
@@ThreeEyedTownie turns out I accidentally downloaded the Wasteland Warriors sheet like most of my group, same company, very similar file name (I didn't know WW existed). The only one in the group that actually showed up with the right sheet was the DM.
hmmm, that would probably depend on if your GM would allow it since glowing ones would typically be feral. It'd be fun to work out the mechanics on that for sure though!
You absolutely can and I know of a few groups that are already doing just that! If you'd like some inspiration or tips on how they're doing so I definitely suggest jumping on the community discord and checking out some of the resources being created in the homebrew section!
I have an existing Fallout pnp rpg I’m running with some friends so I’m def looking forward to learning more about the game and the way it works. If this game is better then I’ll def switch over.
Sick of the FO4 setting, its incredibly bland compared to the other games. Would rather have options for California, Mojave, and the Capitol. Bethesda pretends like the other games dont exist.
2D20 isn't a good pick for Fallout, Modipius used the 2D20 for Star Trek and that was a cinematic game, I think that the cyberpunk 2020 system would be a better fit. It has Vats style hit locations, power armour style implant upgrades, and some good Lethal play. Cephus Engine would be better.
i haven’t had a chance to check out cephus or cyberpunk 2020 but i’ll definitely have to take a look! i will say i really enjoy 2d20 for its cinematic experience and the amount of agency it gives to its players though. thanks for the suggestion on Cephus!
So I'm coming from Age of Sigmar which has nothing even close to this level of awesomeness associated with it. It's a skirmish game at the core and it shows. I just picked up around 3-400 USD of factions & dice/waves/starter set etc. because I had no idea that fallout even existed in this format until like a week ago. I picked up the RPG "expansion (I guess)" which looks really cool, and I'm wanting to play with my brother and dad. The question I have is in that format I planned on using the AI system, to run each battle & some random dice rolls for events (such as base getting raided) in between. I'm really just trying to wrap my head around what is available to me right now, but I know for certain a GM will not be present so my question is I see a way to do this with the base game and the RPG book i ordered, would there be a way to do this with this new more fully fledge RPG 2d20 system they've come out with? Also great video, please make more as there are so few videos out there on youtube about this game!
Fallout 2d20 would require a GM to run the game, so it sounds like what you’d be more interested in would be Fallout Wasteland Warfare. Thanks for watching and the compliments, if you and your group decide that running a ttrpg with a GM might be worth checking out then i definitely recommend Fallout 2d20, but if not i really can’t suggest picking it up.
nope! i am not affiliated, endorsed or sponsored by Modiphius or Bethesda. i’ve just been making these vids in my free time for fun and to help other people learn about the game! But that would be pretty awesome if they wanted me to make content for them!
yeah, the default setting is the Boston Commonwealth but i've seen so many people creating games that take place in other fallout canon locations and also brand new areas!
Honestly kinda just wanted to see some gameplay to get a feel for it. Unfortunately this video wasn't helpful or entertaining. Get some friends together and show us how it's played.
Frankly, it sounds like beth-shits-da fallout, not actual fallout. "you can be a brotherhood of steel initiate..." Yeah no fucking thanks. Id rather play in a believable world.
I'd definitely like a video walking through the basics of a round of combat or something to get a better idea of it.
stay tuned! In the future I'll be doing videos on the core mechanics of the 2d20 system, combat, character creation, crafting and more!

I'll need all the help I can get.
glad to hear you’re finding the series helpful, and thanks so much for watching!
So I can homebrew in playing a Protectron rather than a Mr. Handy?
the only limitation is yourself ✨ - over on the discord community there are some great people making incredible homebrew content if you're looking for inspiration! (link in the description)
I'm sure the stats for a protectron are in the game so I don't think it will be to hard to turn one into a player character
I’m gonna get this for my bday, interesting ttrpg
Trinston was here.
I read some reviews and they say its missing info in the book, even stuff they reference. They never say the details but did you run in to that?
Surprised it's not in there but I'm gonna have to put together an origin of my own. Synth. Seriously, why didn't they include that?
i was really hoping to see synths in the vanilla too, but could be a lot of reasons for excluding them... but hey, there’s always homebrew 😁
I vaguely remember the fallout RPG from waaay back when and I believe you could play as a deathclaw was is totally rad ... might also have been homebrew not sure
Edit I can´t spell
I will fortify this position
no comments about the errors in the book I've heard about like power armor tables for example.
@@ThreeEyedTownie joined both the Facebook and discord just this morning :)
@@llothos awesome!
What about building custom weapons? Like the junk jet.
Wondering if its going to be difficult to find a group to play with
the internet has made our world a much smaller place and with that finding groups for games has become much easier! if you’re looking to meet other players you should hop on the fallout2d20 discord! the link is in the description of this video 😁
Great video!
Hey! thanks so much for watching and the support!
Would I be inviting a PVP scenario by role-playing a Child of Atom?
😂
I see you two are a child of atom may you feel the glow
Great video
thanks for watching and for the support!
Can you play with this on the West coast, too?
The great thing about how this system is set up is that you could essential run your game in any setting of your choosing! The Book provides a lot of useful lore information on factions, corporations and etc that you can incorporate into your own setting and expand upon. In fact, most people that I know that are running thiws game are doing so in their own settings in different areas of not only just the US but all over the world!
Is it possible to play a 2d20 TTRPG singleplayer? I really want to play this game... But i have no friends...
(Im sure you know how long it takes to play D&D)
I remember trying to make my game single-player/Multiplayer as a kid, perhaps i should buy the Fallout TTRPG and see what i can think of?
But i got alot of Faith in the Fallout Community, im sure we could figure something out
I'm still trying to figure out character creation. The rules are straight forward, it's the character sheet that's giving me hell.
if you’re looking for some help or additional resources, the fallout 2d20 discord has a bunch of great folks that’d love to help! a few people have created different character sheets that you might be interested in!
@@ThreeEyedTownie turns out I accidentally downloaded the Wasteland Warriors sheet like most of my group, same company, very similar file name (I didn't know WW existed). The only one in the group that actually showed up with the right sheet was the DM.
@@steel8231 haha! i can imagine that would cause some serious confusion 🤣
Also, does anyone know of its possible to be a glowing one ghoul? Thats the dream character for me
hmmm, that would probably depend on if your GM would allow it since glowing ones would typically be feral. It'd be fun to work out the mechanics on that for sure though!
@@ThreeEyedTownie yeah I figured. I'm definitely gonna homebrew if its not an option. I wanted to play a Jason Bright-esque cult leader
@@jackardoin3133 love it!! 👊💥🧿
What kinda mic do you use?
it’s a blue yeti on a yeticaster arm 🎙 ✨ thanks for watching!
Oh, balls! I thought that you could place you campaign wherever you want, like at Mohave Wastelands.
You absolutely can and I know of a few groups that are already doing just that! If you'd like some inspiration or tips on how they're doing so I definitely suggest jumping on the community discord and checking out some of the resources being created in the homebrew section!
Are there rules about settlement creation?
Im making my own fallout game .
Very nice, I was already going to buy it, but love how deep it is...
I have an existing Fallout pnp rpg I’m running with some friends so I’m def looking forward to learning more about the game and the way it works. If this game is better then I’ll def switch over.
It's not letting me join the Discord Channel
Link is refreshed, try now :D
When I click on the icons to accept the rules it tells me "Channel Verification Too High"
@@ConorCarlisle hmmm, try this one: discord.gg/Nv3nvA66HP
@@ThreeEyedTownie That didn't work either
@@ThreeEyedTownie Cephus is 2d6
But the Cyberpunk 2020 system is D10 based, and is really crunchy when it comes to combat.
@@ThreeEyedTownie
Friday Night Firefight should be available as a free PDF somewhere (it's out of print now) but it was the system for CP2020.
please make a let's play on this!
stay tuned 😁
Can't play synth...yet?
while there’s no official synth origin, many folks over on the discord have weighed in and there’s some solid homebrew options worth taking a look at!
Is this a sponsored video or not?
nope! i am not affiliated, endorsed or sponsored by Modiphius or Bethesda. i’ve just been making these vids in my free time for fun and to help other people learn about the game! But that would be pretty awesome if they wanted me to make content for them!
Oh this is focused on the Bethesda games, not the west coast. That’s a bit disappointing :/
yeah, the default setting is the Boston Commonwealth but i've seen so many people creating games that take place in other fallout canon locations and also brand new areas!
Explore the what?....New Vegas you say!?
Honestly kinda just wanted to see some gameplay to get a feel for it. Unfortunately this video wasn't helpful or entertaining. Get some friends together and show us how it's played.
This guy's eye contact is disturbing

Frankly, it sounds like beth-shits-da fallout, not actual fallout. "you can be a brotherhood of steel initiate..."
Yeah no fucking thanks. Id rather play in a believable world.
