she was incorrect. the heart stopping is NOT the qualifying factor for death, brain failure is. if your heart stops, you can still be revived as long as its done before your brain runs out of sufficient oxygen with which to operate.

Isn't the heart stopping considered "Legally dead" or something like that and the brain dying called "Brain dead"? I can't remember where I read that tho
no. you aren't "legally dead" until you're pronounced dead by a doctor or by some other governing entity (such as the police or military in missing persons cases). if your heart stops while you are under care of medical practitioners, they will attempt to get your hear pumping again. if they fail to do so within a certain time frame (cant remember the exact), they will then pronounce you dead (brain can't survive without oxygen and your blood delivers it).

you'd think that death would be more specifically be brain death, rather than heart stopping. you aren't like reanimated when someone jolts your heart back into a rhythm. people with artificial hearts aren't constantly dead, obviously, cuz they're alive.
