@@Zimblake I think your next contract should include a stipulation that you aren't allowed on full sus bikes. Ps it'd be amazing to see urban/trial riding from you on a gravel bike, watching your trials practice videos with Ashtyn was awesome!
You won´t believe how many ppl would like to do things but fail because they they think too much or have lack of confidence. This is the same what's hindering them to join other riders. Ty gmbn for always encouraging the people. I think especially within the greatest sport in the world the first experiences on the mtb need to be as cool as it can be to rise the stoke level.
It's true. I like the guys I ride with because even though they egg you on a bit they respect your limits and you're still part of the group and we all have loads of fun.
When I used to live in London and occasionally commute to work in winter on my downhill bike. I would change off road wheels for road wheels and tyres. Sort of "supermoto" my bike. There was always street furniture, stairs, challenges and obstacles to ride. The great thing about this was I still got my fix of challenging riding, and I didn't get filthy dirty nor did my bike. Obviously if you screw up and hit the deck, the ground is a lot harder than rain sodden mud. But a prang, is a prang. I once suggested that one of my mates that he give it a try. (Road wheels on his down hill bike and go urban down hill)....... The look he gave me was like I had told him that I had just wiped my backside on his pillow. He was shocked at the thought of it.
ayo nice vid! alttough can you do more tips like this, but on a hardtail? I'm a begginner and i've just bought a new hardtail and I want to learn as much as i can
Saddle down, pedals straight and level, and try to put most of your weight over the back wheal this is the most important thing. Because as the nose of the bike dives in the stairs the back will have an easier time getting up in the air thus loosing control and throwing you over the bars (don't ask me how I know).. I'm riding a 300$ XC bike every day in my urban area riding stairs every single day. Yes it will be bumpy on a hard tail but with practice of that technique it will be a piece of cake. And most important put on your protective gear, don't be scared, and commit to it! Have fun
@@andreiatanasiu463 What do you get for 500 euros where you live? I live in Russia, and I for 400euros I got a GT Aggressor with a freewheel and tourney with 3x7 transmission
I always notice how Blake always has a colorful set of grips on his bike. I don’t know why I took notice to that but I feel like it’s a nice touch and I got a set of moss green grips to go with my bike. I know it has no purpose with this video but I really like watching Blake and his tutorials.
After a lifetime of riding stairs on a BMX and finally buying a bigger bike (26" DH bike with 200mm travel) I'm falling in love with stairs all over again. I'm loving being able to crank at a set of stairs at mach Jesus and use them like a flatbank. I'm on the hunt for a nice double set with a good runup and landing to try jumping up. Street riding is so much fun 😅
In addition to Blake's vid another tip is to approach with pedals level and push your knees sightly forward so your elbows bend right before rolling in. This makes the roll in easier compared to doing it with more stretched arms. Once rolling in your bike will shift forward and because of the bend arms you have more room to let it do so without having to move your upper body a lot. Don't forget to drop the heels slightly once you roll in. I hope this makes sense, a bit hard to explain in just words 🙈 Learned this from another RUclips tut ons stairs but not sure if it's appreciated adding the link.
Woohoo Blake.. I've had my bike for 1 year..came off it other day(first time!)...got first puncture yesterday!..and I've worn the chain and cassette down!!...but I'm loving it,this is cool on steps..but I love it when you go to the woods!!Merry Christmas!X❣️
I have a hardtail. I have been driving past stairs for over a year. Just 2 weeks ago i just sent it. If i only new, that stairs are so much fun, i would have done it a year ago. Now i have been sending all the stairs i could find in my neighborhood.
Also, another disadvantage of riding too slowly on a set of stairs is that the natural tendency to counter steer for balance could force the bars at full 90 if the front wheel happens to be just at the edge of the next step. This will almost certainly cause you to jackknife over the bars especially if the stairs were steep. Just keep a moderate speed and and front wheel square. And of course weight centered over bottom bracket.
Thank you for that, I live on very top of a mountain and . There's 150 steps .am going for it. Helmet and pads, I have med care and have not used it....yet
Best way to learn how to go downstairs is to go down a curb then down a two-step then down a three-step then down a four-step then down finally a six-step and then you could just pretty much do any kind of vertical size of staircase really easily
@@8ace293 you know when I go down stairs you really do t have to put all you weight In the back you can just ride down also. Your bike stats stable like riding down a hill just by its self so if you just committed its really not bad at all its just like a thing you go down.
lets hope it works i have a xc race its my first time and i trackread it earlier and messed up and fell down and the race is tommorow and the funny thing is im using gravel tires one slick one not. i just hope ill do good tommorow and not mess up again
I always look at a stairset and want to ride my mountain bike down them. I can't even watch a film with stairs in. Without wanting to ride down those stairs as well. Except maybe the stairs in Valparaiso Urban Downhill.
I could do that stair set, its when the stairs are have a bigger foot steps when I struggle, it starts to buck you half way down & you don't want that. Face down on the ground. Been there.
Actually there is nothing to learn about riding on stairs. There is only one thing you should know - faster you go, smother and more fun it is. And if you don't need to turn on the end of the stairs, don't use brakes.
My first and most brutal crash ever was a concrete staircase, I broke several of those rules above :| mild concussion, broken helmet, wasted left knee, wasted left 3 fingers and wedding ring, tore my pants, scraped my boots and scratched the bike up.
Yeah, they not to forgiving. I went over the bars on a set near to me. Still give me the eby jeebies & don't feel that great even when you do them correct to be honest.
i'm more curious how to get up onto those wooden sand-stairs on the trail that the cyclocross guys guys use. most MTB'ers i've seen will just get of the bike and run up, but some manage to ride/jump to the top
For some reason when I do stairs I seem to have a tendency to put the derailleur into the rear wheel on the descent as it slaps about and rip the spokes to bits and ruin the wheel & mech. On my jump bike (single speed) it's fine but on my full bounce MTB I'm always apprehensive now.
Change into an easier gear. Don't have it on the hardest gear but also not in the easiest gear - IN the middle. A little more tension in the derailleur will help.
@@Zimblake cheers Blake.. I think a lot of the problem comes down to the fact I'm using a clutchless mech with a long reach (shimano Altus or Acera tend to be my choice - I'm running a cheapo bike with upgrades lol).. Chain is probably way to sloppy as a result.
A beginners guide to street riding here’s is a couple of tips avoid Riding in the rain on a JB and avoid those Block paving style bricks that many street Spot has they are like Black ice when wet and if security guard’s ask you to move on just leave and go to a different spot if you argue with them you’ll just make it worse for yourself and avoid going down escalators there may be fun but they are very slippery when wet And also tried to land flat it’s a part of street riding culture LOL
Find a small drop into a stairset (bench, ledge,...) and go from there. Bunnyhopping into easy stairsets also builds confidence, start slow and increase the distance you hop into the stairs when you feel comfortable.
