    Hasbro Corporate in 1986: Let’s make a cartoon movie, and figure out the designs of the toys later.
    Hasbro Engineers: Okay, we’ll get back to you in about 35 years.

      To be fair, the G1 Galvatron, Hot Rod, and Cyclonus toys are more show accurate than some of the 1984 line. Ironhide and Ratchet's robot modes in particular look nothing like the toys.

      Some of the Micromasters are pretty cool. 1990 was a pretty bleak year for Transformers, though. Action Masters was a very weak ending to the G1 line.

    I liked the list, but I would have to put in Predaking. Here the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Great colors and it looks absolutely fierce with wings, spiked fist, big arm and shoulder cannons. Animal heads at the shoulders and knees.

    The 1986 Transformers are the earliest ones I remember having as a kid, being born in 1983 and most of the 84 / 85 line off shelves in toy stores / toy sections of stores. I remember having Ultra Magnus, Galvatron, Broadside, and mostly Autobots. I do remember one of my friends having Trypticon which was really cool.

    Good video. I owned Octane and Galvatron and one of my buddies had Sky Lynx. Saw the film Ghostbusters which prompted us to use Galvatron as a makeshift "proton pack" for our "Ghostbusting Club". You know, because it lights up. 😁 Good times.

    The thing I always loved about Metroplex is the sheer size of what it should be. It's the Autobot city on Earth and can turn into a giant tank and robot. The Earth itself would probably crumble under either of those modes and the additional car it comes with would be the size of a football stadium. I love ever bit of that thought :D

    Trypticon was and still is one of my favorites from G1. I ended up with one missing all extra bits and a lot of stickers for 50 cents from a yard sale when I was four, but the walking gimmick still worked. Unfortunately, it has since worn down, but probably could be repaired. Years later, my dad found a second one for $1.50 at a Goodwill that had the walking gimmick support bars broken, yet more of the decals present. Then, Titans Return brought forth a new Trypticon, and while it doesn't have a walking gimmick, it is larger and has other play features that I love, especially with Full-Tilt as a HeadMaster/TitanMaster with Necro, which was an awesome way to incorporate Wipe-Out from the comics, as well as triggering the snout laser canopy. Brunt being sold separately considering the price point was a little annoying, but having an updated and fully complete version of Trypticon was one of my Grails for a long time. Having something suitable for the Ark was also later fulfilled by Hasbro (though not Nemesis since I don't like the bot mode), and Studio Cell got me the Unicron I always wanted, giving me my top three Grails.

    I always felt Octane being a refueling jet made the most sense for his jet mode. His tanker truck mode is used to siphon off fuel from human gas stations and then he flies up to some seekers in need of refueling and extorts them for…whatever he would need other than energy…gold pressed latinum?

    I picked up the Japanese reissue of Hot Rodimus because at the time nobody knew Hasbro would reissue G1 Transformers. Fun fact: if the plug is in the right spot you can arm a UT Mini-Con with Hot Rod's gun.
    I never owned any of the others on this list, but there are a bunch I wouldn't mind having if I had the room.

    9 year old me would have put Trypticon in the top 2.
    47 year old me (having acquired the figure a few years ago) would put him in the bottom 2.
    Yes he's cool in general, but being motorized greatly limited him overall. Prime example is that in his "city" mode he is actually just a skyline with a very large highway going down a hill. The rotating parts are neat, but only make sense in his battle station mode.
    Neat toy with a great aesthetic, but hampered by its design.

      Look for Scramble city on Google and you will see Metroplex with Silverbolt, Hotspot, Motormaster and Onslaught connected to him. Scattershot and Hun Grr have basemodes too and can connect to Metroplex aswell. Trypticon came with special connector pieces to connect with Motormaster, Onslaught and Hun Grr

  • @KumoriBlackPhoenix
    @KumoriBlackPhoenix 5 месяцев назад +1

    wouldnt you say that Metroplex's and Trypticon's mobile artillery modes are more reflective of their respective factions' purposes? Metroplex is an autobot and his MA mode seems more suited for defense just like the autobots, whereas Trypticon who is a Decepticon and his MA mode is more suited for aggressive offense just like the decepticons.

  • @tidepoolclipper8657
    @tidepoolclipper8657 5 месяцев назад

    The 2005 reissue of Galvatron does the least make him more akin to what he's like in the animation. Though still not entirely right. Then again he's a light shade of purple in the movie and yet darker in season 3. Either way, you can't really blame them for how the self-aiming cannon mode turned out due to how beefy those legs are.

  • @songsan807

    Growing up my 2 TF toys that I obsessed about was Sky Lynks and Metroplex. My parents owned a restaurant near one of the local toy store in Long Beach and I would go there like 5 times a day just to look at the Metroplex that I could not afford the hefty sum of $40 in 86.
    I did got both of the toys from an eBay TF Lot in the 2000s. I know there are Gen2, Gen3, and re-releases but most of the recent toys are just pure plastic. Not like the G1 versions where many of them are detailed and have die cast metal in them.

    An excellent list. The only disagreement I have is Octane, who I consider the worst of the triple changers (yes, even worse than Broadside).
    It’s breaking your rule a bit, but I’d probably replace him with Pipes, who improves over Huffer in just about every appreciable way.

    So it took some effort not to cheat and throw entire combiner teams on my list but my top ten...
    10. Broadside: Really low on this list because I fully admit his figure has problems. I personally like the character and his alt modes so that's why I included him even though I fully admit there are better figures that could have gone in his place.
    9. Gnaw: I actually forgot Gnaw even had a G1 toy. He's a bit dumpy and akward and again really only here cause I have a soft spot for Aquatic transformers.
    8. Kup: I prefer the Orion Pax version. Kup is just a little bland looking to me cause I'm color blind and his colors just all blend together and wash out all the details in the mold.
    7. Galvatron: I like his toy way more than Megatron who never even made my list.
    6. Wreck-Gar: He'd be higher on the list if he didn't have obvious robot legs in vehicle mode and a giant head in robot mode. Hasbro has gotten SO much better at making motorcyles work since then but he isn't bad for a first attempt.
    5. Hot Rod: Spoilers, Rodimus Prime did not make my list. I have Rodimus Prime and it's not a good figure even by G1 standards. Hot Rod works much better however.
    4. Ultra Magnus: There's an * next to this one that if he's complete he's better than the other figures listed here. I'm not a fan of White Optimus Prime and would put that below Kup but judging him based on the super mode he is a much better toy. The down side is a lot of his robot parts have no where to go in vehicle mode so it is really easy to end up with an incomplete Ultra Magnus. I lost the fists to mine and mine is a reissue I haven't even had that long.
    3. Springer: One of the better Tripple Changers which lets face it is mostly due to his futuristic design that makes it easier to go from car to helicopter without compromising anything. Both vehicle modes share a lot of the same parts so it's not as drastic as a change as other Tripplechangers.
    2. Octane: His legs look a little weird in robot mode and I'm pretty sure there's truck kibble under his jet mode but other than that he doesn't suffer as much as other G1 Tripple changers. It's really impressive engineering so that's why he's so high on the list.
    1. Metroplex: He's a City Former, I'm typically not a fan of "Playsets" but I'll make an exception here because he's also designed to be able to connect to all the Scramble City Combiner Torsos in their base modes to expand the play set which makes it more customizable and adds more play value to all those figures.
    And for once I posted my top ten before seeing TJs so now I'm going to watch the video and see how many of my picks made his list.
