Would you like me to make longer track-making videos? I cut this one pretty hard because I thought it would be too boring, but looking back, I left out a lot of information that could make the video more interesting. Let me know here, under this comment. Otherwise, thank you so much for supporting me, every view, like and comment makes my heart warmer :)
This reminds me of a "Best F1 corners track" that was made for rFactor 1 back in the days when that was to biggest sim. It was made by taking already made tracks, cut out the best parts, and then put them together. So instead of making it from scratch, trying to get it right. It was already made, with the elevation changes etc. It was a funky experience to drive on! :P
Okay but this is one of the videos that you save up in a "for bad days" playlist. It's full of enjoyable humor, an work process that in itself is super interesting and, for some reason, soothing to watch. Idk can't really explain it well but I'm sure I'll watch it again. Can't wait for the second part. You're a genius at making a laborious task seem super fun! :D Hope tommo sees your video too. I'm sure he'd be elated to drive on it :)
@@zoomingpast update: so glad i saved this. my bad day really has become much more bearable with this video. thanks for sharing it with us. and tommo saw it too! so happy for you :)
1st corner needs more of an elevation dip and also to be a more drawn out corner. There is about a 10m - 20m elevation change by the end of turn 2 also a few other corners had a slightly different profile to that of real life. i don't have the skill personally to know what the heck is needed to fix that or make that work but they were the few things as like maybe a version 2 of the track?
Oh absolutely I'll make a version 2 when I'm more skilled. Right now, I'm still focusing more on getting it to work rather than perfecting, but once I've made more tracks, I'll come back to these first two and give them an overhaul 😊 thanks for the feedback
I was actually thinking about trying to add banking in the next creation. Qatar is a good idea for that, but we need something more to make it into a video. Something extra spicy to add on top of the banking :D I'll workshop it, thanks a million
My pleasure bro. If I do come up with anymore ideas I’ll be sure to let you know because even tho Qatar with banking would be sick it needs something more to it for an extra kick and umff
Hey man, I've been waiting for someone to do this for 3 years. I made a video compiling clips of the circuits to create this circuit back then, so Im so happy its been made into a real mod.
top video, nice memes, subbed to show support. I get why Tommo chose most of these track sections but to me, the track looks, especially on the Alonso lap, like it doesn't flow smoothly. You still did a great job. And for the next one, you know to look up elevations beforehand to save time - and hopefully have more luck with those damn trees.
Love it!!! But I just wish every track had a Cota turn one style elevation change. It’s just so dramatic, it also really sucks to run up it at the start of a run.
The part of the curb that causes most bugs is the back side.. not the front side. The front, that is closest to the track, is shallow, while the backside is steep and taller. When that sticks in the inside of the car tire and it is too steep... we go fly fly. The front side usually always works. The second part that causes bugs are the walls between the curbs. That happens if the curbs are all made of identical solid pieces. The proper way is to have separate end caps and then have no walls between the curb elements. The problem with having two walls is that your tire can easily sink just enough inside one frame that it touches both of them, and we get much stronger correction to fix the overlapping tire & object. The tire should only touch the top side of the curb, so any possible overlapping is fixed correctly. Also, there should be no bottom on the curb, just the parts that you can see. Once again, overlapping two faces at once can cause bugging. The bottom plane shouldn't but.. it has no reason to be there since it is never drawn and it is still part of physics calculations... the possible overlapping correction may even sink the tire below the ground, since from the point of view of the bottom face we are coming out from the INSIDE of the curb. Would be easier if i drew a picture... You can check GJK distance algorithm wikipedia page for clues how checking for collision works, the overlapping problem is solved using the same method. You can get wild glitching if you deliberately make the car, or tire to overlap with two track objects at the same time, on both sides so that we have move the car left AND right (or top and bottom) at the same time to fix the overlapping (it can also alternate between frames, depending how the engine handles it).. it can then fly to the outerspace at max speed of the physic engine after it has wiggled and shake enough... I once made a pinball track, it was less fun than it sounds since all it did was glitching in seconds, and then the game crashed.
This needs so so so much more detail work to really match the concept. The number one thing I'd point to though is that the camber needs a lot of adjusting.
@@zoomingpast well the moment i tought about it was at 3:04 and after i couldt unsee it anymore. But i honestly love it (+DIME didnt make a video since a year soon)
Oh, I procrastinated like hell, so about a month I'd say. But if I worked on in every day, for like 2-3 hours it would probably be done in like 7-10 days. The techniques used in track making videos are super simple and rudimentary, if you're looking for a tutorial, I'm planning on making those once I get more comfortable :)
I got the buildings from sketchfab. You can get commercially free simple models there. The trees you can either rip from other AC circuits (using content manager with Dev move enabled) or you can just get tree pngs and slap them on a plane (which is basically what the trees in AC are)

Sort of a dumb question that if it was answered in the video and I just missed it, sorry: While I know nothing about modelling, wouldn't it have been easier to use existing models for the real-life track sections and then "connect the dots"?
Yes, it would've but I didn't for 2 reasons: 1 - I just wanted to make a fictional track that would be its own thing 2 - Getting the track models is very tricky, and very expensive.
