    Only a defender owner would keep a socket with them for fine tuning the steering wheel position thats great

    2 most important things to do to a 300tdi are a electric fuel pump the solid state ones last for many thousands of hours and male bleeding a doddle and the 2nd thing id fit a low coolant alarm they save buying a new head if the level drops oh and a 3/4 power bar and socket for the wheel nuts a couple of decent hyd jacks , i carry 6 and 12 ton ones along with a few bits of 12x2 in bits of timber for jacking bases , as far as tools go can rebuild most things on the side of the road if need be not motor of gearbox but anything to do with steering or brakes , the tyre plugs are worth there weight in gold even carrying 2 spare tyres along with 2 compressor. I am set up for remote travel in Australia. Carry lots more and have needed everything i carry at least once . Rear jerrycan is always full of water . Anyone that travels remote often will know what i mean .

      You guys in the outback are in a totally different league - that's an impressive amount of kit you've got but built up from experience no doubt :) I've got a low coolant alarm - need to do a video on it

      I don’t go silly in gear I carry wheel bearings and such I just make sure they are right before I go maintenance is everything plus it is my daily . Even unheard of failures like I had last weekend between a lot of common sense and not panicking got myself home . Handy hint , I drive a D1 it had a alloy unijoint going onto the imput shaft on the steering box it stripped without warning lucky I was hardly moving reversing into were I was camping anyway . First thing setup camp , looked at what the problem was , had dinner went to bed , next day nut out a way to fix it not going to tell how because it is way to scetchy for mere mortals to understand, fixed it and have a nice afternoon, next day packed up and headed home . Were I was I did not see another vehicle or have phone reception, could not raise anyone on the 2 way while I was there did not see another vehicle until I had traveled 100k or 60 miles . Been self reliant is fairly important along with 45 years as a field service mechanic on earthmovers. If you come across a alloy steering shaft on a disco throw the bastard away and fit a steel one

    I would replace the high vis waistcoat with a proper waterproof high vis jacket.. because you never end up standing by the roadside / changing a wheel in nice sunny / dry weather

    Noway is this enough you need gearbox, engine, springs, basically someone following in a different vehicle just to pop to the shops.

      mind you I prefer to use a canvas tool roll as it can be squeezed into a smaller space

      My buddy’s dad had a tool box like that.. I remember using tools out of it to fix our bikes. 45 years later.. I’m might carry an AARP card in the toolbox now. (Senior discount card) lol

    Great stuff, mines very similar! Only extra I have now is one of those handy compact lithium Ion battery packs for jump starting, I had a winter of having to jump start mine every time I wanted to use it, and couldn't park anything else close enough to use leads.

    I’d like a video on using that tyre repair kit. I bought one for Morocco too, never used it. It dawned on me the other day that I’ve no idea if it actually works or how to use it and instructions are garbage. I should probably get an old tyre and practise.

    Well those are the tools but presumably you have spares box too?
    A few surprising omissions. No hammer (or did I miss it)? No Torx key for the R380 fill plug? No 52mm hub spanner? How do you do the prop shaft bolts? You can use a 14mm combination spanner and an adjustable to hold the other end but not ideal.

  • @rustandoil

    Adjustable spanner!!?.... I thought that hit the bin in you're "shite tools" vid? 😂 😂

    Those tire repair kits are (usually?) labeled for diagonal tires. You can use them on steel belted tires if you carry a cordless drill with a 6 mm bit (I do). Without pre-drilling, you're not gonna stick that needle through the steel belt. Biggest riddle to me how anyone is using these kits and why they're sold everywhere.

    • @lrworkshop
      @lrworkshop  5 лет назад

      I guess it's one of those things you see advertised and just buy it and throw it in the truck. It pays to know what you're using, so maybe I need have a go with an old tyre...!

    • @corhendriks1755
      @corhendriks1755 5 лет назад +1

      Those tyre (not tire) repair kits work perfectly on a radial tyre. And you don't need a cordless (or corded) drill. Most diagonal tyres are not even tubeless tyres...... Have (temporarily) repaired tubeless tyres using this type of equipment over the last 20 years in Africa and Asia without any problem. Bear in mind however that this is a temporary repair. It has nothing to do with diagonal or radial tyres. None of the tyre repair kits are labelled for diagonal tyres. If you don't manage to use this tool properly perhaps you're "tired".

    • @srpacific
      @srpacific 5 лет назад

      They work fine on radials, but if you’re running proper mud or all terrain tires by the time you actually get a flat it’s not going to be from a screw or nail, it will be a proper gash and totally unrecoverable with this kind of kit

    • @landexta4994
      @landexta4994 3 года назад

      i used these loads of times on a 2 yr /75k mile tour of africa on mud terrains absolute essential in my view - they work very well no drilling needed.

    • @niceguy100000
      @niceguy100000 3 года назад

      @@landexta4994 Yeah I stand corrected. I confused (I'm old) these ropes with the TipTop Super Sealastic which I like a lot more than the ropes. But they tear when you don't pre- drill the steel belt.
