    Clothes sizing has changed dramatically over the years. When I was young a size 14 was a 26 inch waist and now it is 30 inches. When shopping in charity shops you have to remember this as it can be disheartening when it is really just old sizing. You look amazing in whatever you wear. You are a very beautiful woman with the most amazing smile.

      This is SUCH an important point! It’s why vintage jeans sizes are so much smaller!

    • @darlenemahaney1258
      @darlenemahaney1258 Месяц назад +2

      This is very much true in US sizing. I currently am wearing from size 4 to size 12 in jeans; also wear 28 in traditional Jean sizing like Levi's for women, but 32 in men's. I'm 62 so have jeans from 1980s-present. As a girl in the 1970s, the smallest pants you could find for women was size 4-6. Now its 00!

    Maddie, given the damp in your wardrobe and house, please air (dry) all the clothes you are planning to store by hanging on your kitchen pulley for a few days. Otherwise they will get mildew in storage. I’m afraid it is part and parcel of living in an old house. Also don’t cram your wardrobes full, allow air to circulate by leaving doors open for hours at a time and buy a good quality dehumidifier (one over £200) and run every week for a few hours in all your upstairs rooms. It definitely makes a difference and you will be amazed at the amount of water it will extract from the air, carpets and walls.

    Hey Maddy, as someone who has only just realised this about myself, I’d recommend looking into ADHD for women. I know it’s everywhere atm but honestly you remind me of me. It has been pretty bizarre figuring it out and reframing my anxiety and depression around my ADHD but honestly life changing and in a good way. I’ve begun to finally accept that my brain doesn’t work typically and I had so much internalised shame and negative self talk because of it. ❤

    The reason you have mould is the fitted wardrobes probably not the pointing I have an old house that has double glazing which was not meant for the property , I have to put those little throw away de humidifiers in wardrobes drawers etc as I do get mould, even though we have bare floorboards and an open chimney, it's amazing how much water they collect . I had wardrobes built in but I would suggest if your changing them get freestanding ones.

    The blue summer dress matches very well with the purple rose jumper. Also the alcohol could be split between kitchen and the garage. Weren’t you planning on drinks out there when you have movies or host? Your house really is looking well curated and gorgeous. I think I missed what’s happening with the former office space. You’ve painted the outside and then moved out. Waiting to renovate? Or waiting to renovate it until after repointing, guttering, and possibly stripping paint off the stone on the rest of the outer walls?

Vests & pleated plaid skirts are back, like Rory Gilmore, Harry Potter dark academia, silk scarves, brooches, piled on jewelry, chunky chains & earrings, leather, trench coats, Fall florals, shades of brown, olive, fringe, bows, long blazers, natural animal prints, & cashmere cardigans over lacy camisoles like Alaina Gilbert in Vampire diaries, & Bella in Twilight. What material is your wedding dress?Dont bother taking it to a dry cleaners as it costs a fortune and they don’t get rid of mud very well,I got married 35 years ago and I got a bit of mud on my train which the dry cleaners charged £25 then and the mud didn’t come out.20 years later my daughter was a carnival queen wearing wedding/prom dresses on a regular basis in all weathers.i got very good at cleaning and ironing them.Vanish and fairy are great.Wash in a bath or (machine if it’s big enough )Soak the hem first in cold water with fairy clothes washing liquid mixed in .Get a vanish soap bar and rub it onto the mud stains and very gently rub a nail brush into the bar and scrub the mud gently.Do this on the inside layers first to see how the material reacts.You can rinse out the mud and put fresh water etc in until most is off.Same method for fake tan marks .Mud is a biological stain so DO NOT USE HOT WATER AS IT SETS THE STAIN AS I DISCOVERED THROUGH TRIAL AND ERROR🤣Sprays are fine but for bad marks or old stains the solid soap and nail brush is better.Once the bulk of the dirt is gone then you could wash the whole dress in the bath or in the machine on delicate.Make sure especially if there is beading/sequins to wash inside out and if the material is delicate ie.not thick satin or net then you can protect by washing it inside a clean white duvet cover.Hang the dress up to dry inside out.if you have net layers you can spray generously individually with spray starch and stretch the layers out with your hand to fluff them out and regain body but avoid near beading .

    Are the walls in your home plaster over the stone? Or are they newer drywall?
    I was watching a video on HomeWorthy and the woman who was showing her historic home talked about needing to use limewash paint when painting the walls in old stone homes, otherwise there will be damp and mold issues. I know you said it is because the house needs repointing, but I’m wondering if perhaps it could also be due to the type of paint used on the walls.

    I would take the doors off your closets and store them until you sort the damp issue from the outside. Just have it open all the time.

    Instead of everyone bringing over alcohol this year, let everyone know what you currently have and have them come up with drinks to use up the alcohol. Or as everyone leaves this year, have them take a bottle of something they'd like.
