You start the video showing videos of legit barreling pipeline, your instructor answers your question regarding what it takes to surf legit Pipe. And you go blog yourself with this journey to end up surfing 3 ft pipe. You sold one thing, and did another. You did not surf the most dangerous wave. You surfed a not dangerous version of the most dangerous wave.
Thank you for the inspiration. I’m 45 always loved the surfing culture, but I live in Miami no waves so didn’t get to practice much. I’m taking it seriously to learn how to surf before I die. There’s days where you feel like you’re just out of your depth, but there’s days that I feel inspired and when I watchinspirational people like yourself. It makes me happy knowing that one day I’ll be surfing. Thank you for the inspiration.
Jade Darmawangsa-what a name that just resonates with strength and spirit! Pay no mind to the naysayers. You’ve got the vision, the drive, and the grit to chase your dreams. Get into gear, train like there’s no tomorrow, and just f*cking do it. You know what you want, and that sets you miles ahead of so many others who are stuck in neutral, drifting aimlessly until they end up in Palookaville-where dreams go to die. But not you. Your video is a testament to that adventurous spirit, and your storytelling? It's real, it's raw, and it's inspiring. I’m just starting out with video and storytelling myself, and watching you only fires me up more. Keep pushing those boundaries, riding those waves, and remember, the horizon is endless for those who dare. Keep moving forward, Jade, and never, ever give up! I think you're missing the point. First of all, she fully acknowledges that it's not Pipeline at its fullest. No one watching this video is deceived. Secondly, her Pipeline dream was more about setting a goal. The true accomplishment here was becoming a competent surfer. "The journey is the thing."
for sure -- especially the whole 'with no experience' bs. this is not safe and will encourage some of her idiotic followers to think you can just go out and surf pipe. Anybody with respect for the sport and the culture wouldn't do this shit.
@@hahn8552bro this ain’t pipe this just some beach break lets be honest. Its like surfing the small beach break around nazare and claiming you surf nazare
At the beginning, her trainer also acknowledged how dangerous Pipe can get, that people d*e there. Plus anyone that wants to verify how big it can get can check out JOB's daily vlogs, and see that it's no joke. I think it's good to celebrate Jade's progression and accomplishment.
Keep working hard! You are doing great! I’m currently learning skimboarding and I can definitely say I feel your pain. Certain days I get down on myself because I want to be good so bad but like you said the only thing to do is to rest or get back out there and work some more! Don’t be hard on yourself it is a journey and it’s not an easy one. Keep up your hard work and determination and have fun out there ❤
Congrats on becoming a surfer - you are now one of the special ones - consider yourself very lucky - but well deserved - because learning to surf does not come easy - there are no short cuts - and most don't make it - well done ... I can also relate to the video and your experience of learning .... it's one of the hardest things you can do, and something you're always trying to get better at, it never stays the same, you pay the price (often) no matter what level you are so it's very humbling, it's mentally and physically tough, but it only takes one good wave to make your day, or one good session to make your week.... there's nothing better.
There are so many things wrong here. First you are at Pipe it's almost summer. North Shore is a winter break. That wave wasn't even South swell size. It was like Waikiki Walls. Pipe is already crowded as it is. The locals really don't need more kooks in their break. Lastly your irresponsible video may actually lead to a very dangerous situation. Where a kook paddles out in November. Real size like 20ft faces and gets in real trouble. Where other people like lifeguards have to risk their life. Very irresponsible video... Imho sorry
Did you even watch the video? She literally said she knows it's not "real" Pipe and it wasn't barrelling. She also got the encouragement from locals to paddle out and also told in the lineup to take a wave. Seems like even if you train the hardest you can and earn all the respect you still get called a kook by gate-keeping losers online. Just say you're jealous and move along.
@@johnariola5780 John: just chill, summer at pipe is a whole different thing it’s a fun beach break and not true pipe. But it is still the same beach. Thank you so much for sharing your journey with us. It was so incredibly inspiring. Being the eldest daughter of immigrants I can relate to the negative self talk a lot but what I’ve learnt is that the more compassionate I am able to be towards myself the easier it gets. I surfed for the first time in my life last year in Brazil and it felt so amazing. I took a lot of lessons so I was able to quickly progress but sadly I had to go back home and I haven’t been able to surf since. I can’t wait to surf again and this video truly inspires me to surf even more!! My personal dream would be to surf in all the seas I possibly can. Watching this video gave me a purpose and really reminded me that anything is possible once you commit yourself long enough. Thank you again and I can’t wait to see your future progression
Thank you for inspiring me and for your authenticity. A lot of us have trouble with negative self talk at times and limiting ourselves. So I apreciate the moments where you showed your true emotions and allowed yourself to pause, recognizing that you had to be your biggest cheerleader in order to change the narrative. Hope this makes sense. Thank you. Also your pops looks pretty chill, I'm sure he passed on a lot of the traits needed for your journey, namely inner strength, commitment, self-discipline, and devotion. 😊
Right on. I have seen some of your smaller blogs over time. You have really progressed well. You are a surfer girl. This longer video made me laugh. Thanks. I'm 53 used to be a surfer but life... Jade you are such a good surfer and I say that because I’m a beginner surfer and relate to being frustrated and being hard on your self. I give you so much credit because for being so brave because I surf little waves and I still get frustrated when I don’t get a good wave and fall right when I get up. Personally I get scared when I catch a wave cause I don’t know if it’s going to be good or I’m going to eats so much water. I am still on a long/ foam board. You’re amazing and you’re awesome surfer!
Hey girl! I loved your video! I love that you are sharing the process, I started learning this year in March and OMG please talk about the process more. I’m definitely stock rn with my paddling and just knowing I can relate to others makes me feel so good 🩷🩷🩷🩷 thank you ❤
Right on Jade, you did it. In surfing you need to incrementally challenge yourself to successfully progress. The growth and skill comes in jumps and spurts. Sometimes you will be in a situation that's a little in over your head. That's when you learn rapidly in a short time. Keep surfing Jade. At four hours per day and with coaching you will progress rapidly. I loved the claim at Pipe and the little cry afterwards. You realized one of your dreams. Many more will come. I have been surfing for 40 years and I'm still learning.
Click bait or not - you should be proud of yourself and your accomplishments! From the first moments I saw your videos a few months ago until now you occasionally cross my mind. Because I also have these moments of "fuck it, let's just move somewhere to the coast and start surfing". You definitely triggered that thought in me and you're an inspiration to me. Thank you for sharing your journey ❤
As someonr who has tried to surf as a brand spanking new beginner and has gone out at least ten times and has never caught a single wave youre super inspiring. I just bought my first surfboard (96L foam longboard 😅) i dont even know the lingo or terminology but its so fun even just paddling! Im at the point where 1 ft waves are my happy place. This gives me hope that one day ill be able to stand up on my board and catch a wave!
Jumping into the unknown, especially with something as intense as surfing a dangerous wave, is what separates the dreamers from the doers. Just like investing in multifamily real estate, it could seem dangerous alone but with a turnkey multifamily investing strategy, it is a very lucrative thrill.
That's so awesome!!! You worked really hard, dedicated a ton of time and grinded it out. Keep it going, keep it safe, be real to your self and your abilities. Surfing is a love that most don't get to experience. I hope to one day get back to surfing after multiple back surgery's. It may never be realistic but I'll keep grinding and at least I can dink around on a body board for sure lol. You should be super proud, let the break downs go and go with the flow. No time for that negitive weight.
I can relate so much to all of this. I cry once a week about surfing. So much love to you. Found your IG and channel 6 months ago and have enjoyed following along. Proud of you girl! From one Asian surfer girl to another 🏄🏻♀️
When you got the wave I was so emotional!! It's so nice to see your journey and progress with surfing and not just the good times. I'm so inspired. I do have a question though bc you might have not included a year but did you go from your blue long board and straight to a short board in Portugal? Or during 2022 did you use a mid-length at all? I just got confused with the huge jump (to me) from the "longboard" (not sure its length maybe it is a fun board?) to the shortboard. That's my biggest goal right now so I'm curious about your journey there. But honestly so much props to you for being able to use a shortboard and all you've accomplished! Literally such an inspiration omg
i literally made a jump from longboard to short 🤣it was really bad bc i couldn’t stand up but the green board you see at 5:47 has a lot of volume like a mid length board!!
Congrats on learning how to surf but you didn't pull into any barrel and it was a small day. That doesn't count... Locals were nice to you because you're a cute little girl. Next time drop in when it's double over head and barreling. I bet the outcome would be different. Don't be selfish risking your life and the life of others just to get views and trying to get RUclips rich. Just saying.
Ok, so thank you for having interest in surfing HI ar various spots. Please realize that we measure waves from behind: ft = ft at most, ancle snappers we call em' and the reef is pretty unforgiving. Glad to have u here!
This was so inspirational. Congrats on reaching your goal, you did the damn thing girly!
Please do not let the people in these comments saying, “but you didn’t REALLY do it” discourage you. Like you said you didn’t know going out there that was gonna be your pipe day. You got the first run out of the way, and now you can go back and keep seeing your progress. Anyone diminishing your hard work is truly a) jealous they don’t have the dedication to work so hard for something and/or b) are trying to keep a new generation from learning to love surf as a way to keep people off their waves. Just know their comments are more reflective of their skill/mindset than yours!! Looking forward to seeing you do more!
No no no, she should absolutely NOT ‘go back’. Being a barely competent surfer and going to waves of this caliber is wildly irresponsible and not only gives her a false sense of confidence, but puts her life, and other peoples lives in danger. People work their ass off for years to get the privilege of surfing this wave. People like her are a severe safety concern. It’s also promoting a terrible message that “anyone can surf pipe.”, which is how people become meat crayons on the coral reef.
Came to your channel off one of your shorts and just finished this vid. I am so happy for you! I claimed the wave for you and slid down the line! You seemed to do well at pipeline. People in here throwing shade, but when it comes down to it if it was any larger you probably would have chose otherwise. With everything there is a calculated risk. Keep pushing!
I’m truly happy for you that you have accomplished what you have set out to do! -But wit that being said I would cross it off your bucket list and not attempt to paddle out to pipe again.
Honestly, I have surfed Pipe, but I have not surfed PIPE.
As a rockclimber who is very new and I have some big goals. I love seeing women with the same determination as me and working hard to achieve a goal.
The ocean is vast, and so are the possibilities.
Ciao for now...
Best,
Max McByte
Jade definitely has it d'swanging
You did AWESOME !!!SO PROUD OF YOU !!! It's on my bucket list.
Jade I’m so proud of you. I remember taking photos of you pre-pandemic in Portland and I’ve been watching you grow ever since. So so proud of you!
thanks so much haley!!
Always wanted to learn, but never had the time or money to dedicate to it, now I'm 27 and my time has probably gone, but I'm glad there're people out there that get to make this dream come true. Congratulations and thank you for sharing your journey.
im 29, just starting
It's never too late to start!!
I’m 32 and taking classes .. never too late 😊
I don’t wana be that dude….. but it’s pretty corny to claim you rode pipe and didn’t even get barreled… i mean like good for u and “ur content” and all that but it just feels like you could be putting a lot of people in places they shouldn’t be and could get really hurt at with this kinda like false advertising thing your doing.. u seem real nice but i just want to be honest
I can't roll my eyes any harder at this. (Edit: this comment, not her.)
Imho sorry
The paddle out will cull out most real Kooks, the inflated sense of surfing pipe is just sad really.
Beginner surfer People should know their limits and wouldn’t even make it out to real “pipe” so quit being “That Guy” cause no one needs your negative vibe. Or you might end up as the real Hawaiians say “You gonna Go Pow kook” “you got No Aloha”!
Broo nothing was dangerous there was jerry Day where she got out
Take a walk with your 9 ft longboard bro
awesome jade. i remember when you first started and knew u were gonna be a legend. keep up the great work.
Learning to surf a 3-4 foot wave is very impressive, it’s not easy and one of the hardest sports and you are killing it for a new surfer, but don’t say “I surfed pipeline” because obviously, come on.
😂
Serioulsy !! Said i surfer pipe and see the video it’s akward. Now everyone is an athlete without work and commitment
@@1veryreal To be honest, surfing 2-4 foot wave is much easier than a 1 foot wave. At least to me.
@@aaronvu6292LMAFO 😂.. 1 foot wave is literally a wave where you suppose to only learn how to get up and practice your fundamentals .
@@assassin7250 To me it's much harder to suf what I called knee snapping waves. No power to do any fundamental move.
At least where I live.
I surfed Gums in the summer, is a more realistic title. Not hating just being honest ❤
Now I'm living in Hawaii and I think it's time to get surfing again. Thx for sharing your dream. Keep it up.
💚💛♥️☝️🤟🤙
Amazing courage. Staying within your limits with progressive improvements. Good job. Best wishes, safety, and health.
The progress is so sick. good stuff!
Such an inspiration. Thank you for sharing. I love the story, tears and laughters.
I’m definitely stock rn with my paddling and just knowing I can relate to others makes me feel so good 🩷🩷🩷🩷 thank you ❤
so so proud of how far you’ve come jade 🥲
Jade you are amazing and inspiring!!! Watching this 5 months into my surf journey
You are so inspiring! I can't wait to see what you do next! You go girl!!!
I have been surfing for 40 years and I'm still learning.
this is so sweet 🥹thank you
Click bait or not - you should be proud of yourself and your accomplishments!
Well done Jade, of course wonderful things happen outside your comfort zone, You got this already! 🏄♀🤙
This is such a beautiful video, it’s so incredible and inspiring to see your journey!!
Love the progression, the determination, the commitment! Well done!👏👏👊🤙
Cheers to you from a fellow surf chick!
I can relate so much to all of this. I cry once a week about surfing. So much love to you. Found your IG and channel 6 months ago and have enjoyed following along. Proud of you girl! From one Asian surfer girl to another 🏄🏻♀️
I cheered for you when you caught that wave. 🎉 well done. Great video ❤
LOVE THIS AND SO PROUD!!!! the storytelling is amazing as well! can’t wait to keep seeing where the waves take you! ❤❤❤
2 ft offseason pipe LOL
I get the waves may be small but she has worked so hard to get we’re she
@@Meganbatessso did everyone else out there..
@@jadedarmawangsa Oh interersting! That's actually so cool and something I never considered 🤔 Thanks so much Jade 😁
It's not pipe
lol
54 year old guy from Spain I am. I have always dreamt to surf Pipe. There is still hope. You are an inspiration.
Just saying.
holy fucking shit its never been that deep just let people be happy
Ok, so thank you for having interest in surfing HI ar various spots. Please realize that we measure waves from behind:
ft = ft at most, ancle snappers we call em' and the reef is pretty unforgiving. Glad to have u here!
This was so inspirational. If you know it or not, you’re teaching people that with hard work, passion, consistency, patience, kindness, and allowing yourself to go through the process and the frustration you can achieve goals you may believe are unobtainable. Congrats on reaching your goal, you did the damn thing girly!
And also I love your videos in general like editing wise and stuff! Keep going giiiiiirl!
stoked for you well done!!
I admire your courage very much.!Can't believe I finished watching the video,I've never tried surfing. So inspiring!!!!
Jesus
Nice "click bait"
Came to your channel off one of your shorts and just finished this vid. I am so happy for you! I claimed the wave for you and slid down the line! Not too many people get to dedicate their daily lives to surfing and you can see the hateration in the comments. Ignore them and keep living your dream! 🤙🏽
This video gave me a roller coaster feelings, in 19:49 minutes I laughed, I got inspired, I cried and on the last part in Pipeline I CLAPPED because I am so proud of you Jade! And you should always be proud of yourself! ☺☺
haha all the emotions!!! tysm ❤
This is amazing!! Love your determination and persistence, WAY TO GO JADE!!!
With "no experience' implies no experience, not "let me call my surf instructor" who's on speed dial.
nothing is impossible.... it is just takes time plus having a stubborn mindset is a good trait. You don't know your limit, until you test them. You are ALWAYS stronger than you think.
Loved alll of this!!! Way to crush it!! 🔥
Inspirational. I probably have no natural talent for surfing, but this video makes me want to just go for it because I know it'd be worth it.
i cried watching this. this was such a great video, tysm for sharing 🤍
wow, someone let you have a wave at pipe? i think that's the most jawdropping part of the whole thing. that to the side - epic journey and congrats!
I know right?? was super lucky someone claimed my wave for me haha
@@jadedarmawangsa on a day like that nobody's caring about waves. its so small noboyd's stressing about it. if you ever get halfway decent at surfing, come back out when its real size, then you can say you 'surfed' pipe

As soon as I saw the note on growing up in Portland it all made sense.
Nice of you to try and surf the most dangerous wave in Hawaii.
I wonder how many people you put in danger by being an absolute KOOOOK
Surfing is purely for fun. To forget all things in life while in the water. This is my 50th year of of being a Florida surfer. I am so lucky to have my health at 62 years old ( this october). Never stop surfing!
Jade!! You surfed pipe and got a Harry cameo. This video/surf film is everything
the harry cameo is insane 😂
lmao "I'm in pain, but i didn't want to say anything because i didn't want to be a bitch" 🤣 so relatable
Typical asian girlie from Taiwan here. Related to lots of stuff you said in the video. Just started to surf short board a year ago and I'm still struggling. Because I don't have lots of friends who surf and who are the same level as me, sometimes it gets really lonely. I also have mental breakdowns and talk down on myself a lot lol. Watching your video gave me the confidence to keep trying. Wish you well on your surf journey!!
This is so cool! I don’t know much about surfing but I learned so much watching your content ❤
I only learned about your journey a few weeks ago but I love how real you are and how much fun you have in this journey. I also picked up surfing more in 2020 and live in San Diego come surf with me let’s be friends! ❤
You’ve gotten a lot better. Keep surfing.
This is awesome!! Not a surfer but beautiful to see your progress. As far as I’m concerned you did surf Pipeline - You were not planning to go out there at all that day, you went out, got YOUR wave and had a great day.
As far as the haters and their semantics lol 😂, You gave caveat about the barreling, so you are clearly not out here misleading anyone 🤷🏽♀️
Keep on!! Be safe 😊 And in due time, we greatly look forward to seeing you safely at Pipeline while it’s barreling 🙏🏽 ❤😊
Good for you ! 1995-1999 i surfed all over Oahu but never not once even paddled out at The Pipe, so.... Good For You !!! BTW, 1999 moved to Kauai and lived here ever since 🤙🏽
surfing is not a easy keep it up jade your good I'm proud of you
Love all your vids and your passion❤❤❤❤ you’ve reinspired me to get back in the water🌊🏄♀️ keep up the stoke🤘🙌
Way to push yourself, whether you surfed 10 or 100 ft. You set a goal for yourself to achieve and made it happen. This can be applied to anything. Way to be a good role model. You seemed to do well at pipeline. People in here throwing shade, but when it comes down to it if it was any larger you probably would have chose otherwise. With everything there is a calculated risk. Keep pushing!
Cool video. I enjoyed watching this, congrats on your journey! Really curious about what went wrong with your surf coach haha.
That’s not pipe
there’s a current wave in a river in germany around munich and its like a huge current like wave and its super fun to surf
18:26 You make all the Pro Pipeliners Gods !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m truly happy for you that you have accomplished what you have set out to do!
-But wit that being said I would cross it off your bucket list and not attempt to paddle out to pipe again. Especially REAL PIPE! You could and probably would get seriously hurt or even worse. On top of all that you could put our local lifeguards and all da local Braddah’s and Sistaz in da lineup in danger. As a Hawaiian, born & raised here I would hate to see you or any of our locals get hurt, because you think you are ready to paddle back out to pipe after your 1 small session.
Aloha🤙🏾
Congrats! Would love to hear more about how you chose a surf camp and what got you in to surfing
This girl is only surfing to make content.
Also, influencers and their fans are ruining the world and things will only get worse.
You got to start somewhere. You can’t just surf the biggest wave first. Thought my first wave was one of the biggest waves I ever surfed. I got in over my head and just rode it out. I couldn’t believe I survived.
Jade....real, honest and raw. Thanks for sharing your journey. With your continued dedication to surfing you will continue to drop bombs!! I see it all in your videos. Congrats and keep pushing the line.
I don't know you but when I saw you surfing pipeline, I was beaming from ear to ear. That was awesome! Good job Jade!!!! 👏👏👏
Awesome job going for it. You coulda just sat on the beach and watched. Kudos for doing it ❤
Next time ya go to Portugal check out Nazire( probably spelled it wrong) . When it's on it makes pipe look like a wave pool.
Too fire actually crying
