I played a character like this in 4e. I saw him as Data from the Goonies at low levels, through Boba Fett at mid levels, and then Iron Man at high levels. He was a lot of fun.
Hexblade Warlock is perfect for this build as Tony essentially pledges his soul, not to a weapon, but to his armor. It becomes perhaps THE thing that identifies him to himself.
Plus… the abilities it provided :)
I've been thinking about this build. I have nothing to add mechanically except saying that I've never liked when multiclassing incorporates a huge amount of classes and yet I still liked how this build came out.
But I was thinking about the Hexblade, thinking about you weren't sure how to incorporate it narratively and it was just "too good". I think in this case, the 'Shadowfell' could work as a metaphor for what Tony sees when he closes his eyes. Shadowy weapons bearing his name, responsible for endless atrocities. I think that's quite cool.
Awesome!
This is actually a great build, well done!
For hypnotic pattern flavoring, in the comic series Planet Hulk Tony used a specially configured light array emitted from his gauntlets that pacifier and subdued the Hulk in order to get him into a ship.
Never seen it in the MCU, but it’s not a stretch at all to say that he has that built in imo.
~_~
*pacified
Awesome!
Alot of work put into the video, the research and synergy are on point. Well done is an understatement.
I’ve always wanted to see a John Constantine build, lots of good spells in the shows too, I think you’d do a great job!!
Seems like a popular request. I have a real fondness for the Keanu reeves movie - but I know it’s not very accurate to the character. Def one I’m putting in the queue.
@@cmccbuilds8229 Funny fact: When the film came out, my friends, who had read the character in the comics, hated Reeves in the role. I'd never read the comics so I thought he was perfect. It's all about your own interpretation...
“Okay, anybody on our side hiding any shocking and fantastic abilities they'd like to disclose? I'm open to suggestions.”
Did that make into the final version? I had to cut down from 1.5 hours of footage to the final 33 minutes.
@@cmccbuilds8229 I didn't catch it in the video. Just felt it apt.
This is great. I've been wanting to learn more about how to multiclass effectively.
This was absolutely amazing
Iron Man has always been my favorite from MCU. Thanks for this, love it!
Sorry, not just MCU, but all of Marvel! Just came back to re-watch this. I love the work put into it.
Love your take on Iron Man. Eldritch Blast really does fit the repulsor beam. I wold love to see your take on a Green Lantern build
This is REALLY cool build! Honestly i was thinking a lot about building Iron man in dnd and A LOT of my ideas we described in this video! I have my own view if this build, with slight differences. For example as a 1st feat i would definitely give Keen Mind because of exceptional intelligence of Tony, and also it gives +1 to int, so it will increase an intelligence from the very beginning. Overall - amazing video, THANKS!
duuuuuuude... awesome work
I feel like you kinda messed up at the very beginning. Should be a Standard Human. The feat isn't that important, but getting all those extra points is way better.
Str 8
Dex 11
Con 15
Int 15
Wis 10
Cha 12
All +1
The background should also be Noble. Reason being you get the Position of Privilege perk... Which I see you mentioned. Well done.
I'm with you on the few level dips of Hexblade. The Shield spell is perfect here. Also Eldridge Blast is great.
I'm with you so far. Up to level 6.
Great Job mentioning Magic Missile. It gets SO GOOD with an Armorer.
Not with you on the Sorcerer dip though. I prefer to Stay Artificer until after level 6. Upping the damage being done.
But then Jumping to Wizard. Abjuration Wizard. This gives him the durability we expect from Iron Man.
But all in all you did a pretty great build also.
Standard human is pretty terrible. That’s a no go.
Prior to Armorer being released I was trying to get Eldritch Blast to work on my War Machine Artillerist Artificer (with heavy armor proficiency). On a full level 20 build-out I really want to stay Artificer all the way as I believe the capstone is amazing. If I know for sure the campaign is ending early I'll multiclass.
Edit: Was also a warforged to fit the theme. It's difficult to evaluate but having more magic item attunements and more infusions on the armorer (depending on the campaign) may open up a whole lot of options. If the DM plays nice with magic item crafting that's a plus as well.
That’s interesting. Most Ironman builds I have seen are wizard and artificer based. The warlock and sorcerer levels I never would have considered but they make a lot of sense.
Hypnotic pattern: those sonic paralyzers that obedias used in the first film. Tony probably designed them.
... that or cranking up some acdc
You had me at the Warlock dip for Repulsors, lost me by Multiclassing more than that, the Artificer abilities are too important and Iconic to delay with Sorcerer levels imo
You need those levels in sorc unfortunately. 18/2 split is fine but not as accurate. The goal here is accuracy. As mentioned in the video, the original build was artifcer18/warlock2, but it wasn't an all encompassing iron man build.
And as always, the goal is to present the most accurate version, with as much multiclassing as needed, and allow you to parse it down to the specific build you want to play.
If 18/2 feels better for you, that's the one for you :)
@@cmccbuilds8229 I get that, what spells would you miss without going Sorcerer though?
@@chillycharizard5985 it's likely the class feature of restore order and the sorlock overlap, combined with the metamagic. Short rests gain you back spell slots, that can be turned into metapoints, and used for quicken spell and such.
@@thelitchfieldexperiment6269 I meant in terms of accuracy, not optimization
Sorry never replied. You’d lose a lot in terms of total spells known. You could make it work with 6 total spells known and 3 cantrips, but you’d miss out on important spells.
Sorcerer gives 5 cantrips and 6 spells at level 5. Warlock gives 3 and 6 at 5. We need pretty much all of those cantrips and many of the spells.
Warlock also doesn’t have access to light, fire bolt, mending, and message (the latter two absolutely necessary). Burning Hands, Blindness/Deafness, and Fireball are all necessary leveled spells that warlocks don’t have access to.
Hope that answers your questions. I can also talk about the thematic advantages to clockwork soul but I think I hit that in the video.
I like it, but since I also use Faerie Fire for my Armorer Artificer, I think it does not fit with a HUD, because other people in the party can benefit from it as well (this spell has been MVP in a couple of our battles), I am still unsure how to convey it in game (maybe tracker ammunition with sound or sparkles, especially since the spell save is dexterity).
RP it as iron man giving info to the party about location and weak armor of the enemy
*THANK YOU* for acknowledging that repulsors ... y'know ... *move stuff.* I swear I was getting to the point where if I saw another "Tony Stark is an Artificer/Wizard and his repulsors are the Fire Bolt cantrip" build, I'd'a gone berserk. With a chainsaw. 😈😁
No, his repulsors are the thunderwave spell, which he gets as an armorer. My Ironman is an armorer artificer/scribes wizard. The manifest mind is Jarvis. War wizard is my second choice. Arcane deflection, tactical wit, even power surge works for an Ironman. Art14/Wiz6. Thunderwave is your spell-storing spell. Helm of awareness instead of the alertness feat.
@ericpeterson8732 thunder wave?? That’s a pretty weak proxy for repulsors. They have barely any range and do AOE. No no no.
The Perfect Artificer Armorer
In my mind was Noble background, at least 1-2 War Mage to get sooner Fireball and fly spell, then pure Armored Artificer. Great idea with the Warlock levels.
Basically choose between Sorcerer and Wizard levels for this build. Both work great. Since I bumped CHA before INT, I went with Sorc. If you decide to bump INT first, take wizard. War Wizard would be an excellent pick.
@@cmccbuilds8229 Both clases use INT for casting spells and gets better and level spells sooner. War Wizard uses Int mod for better initiative and may use his reaction to recover a missing concentration, saving at least the infussion .
You need warlock though too. It’s the foundation.
@@cmccbuilds8229 When I heard un your video taking W. I thought Clockwork Souk (Manifestations of Order suits the T. Stark holograms, Restore Balance would be J.A.R.V.I.S assistance), but your Hex is better option to start with, till later get Artificer Armored.
Id love to see your version of Doctor Doom. Especially before MCU wrecks him.. :p
Warforged armour artificer+ cleric of the forge = Iron man +.
Not even remotely
@@cmccbuilds8229 My PC Genesis would convince otherwise lol. With those two classes and race he does everything iron man does and more. Suits of armour check, advanced weapons and defense check, extreme intelligence check. Anything iron man can do a mix of those classes, race, and right spells/infusion can do or do better better. AKA iron man +👍
Iron man is a human. How are you getting the most important part of his suit, the repulsor blasts?
How are you replicating all the other powers specified in the video?
Tho would like to get access to simulacrum an clone not available in classes spell list just for the cherry on top.🤪
Is there a version of this that would work with just Artificer + Warlock multi class? Still a beginner level player and a 3 layer multi class sounds a bit too much to handle. particularly in terms of spell slots between three spellcasting classes.
Absolutely. Artificer18/ warlock 2. You lose a lot, but it’s completely workable.
Speaking of Shuri,I've yet to see someone do a shuri build. That would be a good build to your channel.
That might have to wait for BP2. There's not a ton of footage with her.
You should make Ultron in D&D
The lack of film footage becomes an issue, but maybe I could use animated films.
@@cmccbuilds8229 Ok but anyway awesome video
Is there any way to get a written version of this build?
My patreon which should be linked in the description
Just out of curiosity, you ranked you're other pop culture based builds earlier, before this video. Where would you say your iron man ranks among them?
Good question. I’d have to run the numbers, but with hexcurse/upcast magic missile and quickened Eldritch Blasts, this build would be pretty high. Doubt it would beat out Geralt at lvl20. Maybe prior to lvl15 though.
@@cmccbuilds8229 it'll be for an old OotA game so only to level 14 I think. Sounds like iron man would be the better choice for dpr, and the most out of place lol.
I strongly considered an iron man build when I played OoTA. It would do fine for that campaign. It’s not a gloomstalker or anything though ;)
@@cmccbuilds8229 lol this is true. I'm trying to stay away from that. Although one of my mates is going gloom sooooo
Tell him to get spike growth at 5 and you can blast ALL the enemies through it :)
Of course the black women is the smartest. More Disney bs
This build sucks dnd isn't set up for super heros
Maybe make sure you can spell correctly before insulting people. Just a thought.
