    For a brief time I had a little Happy Trails Cozy Cabin 5x8 camper. The problem was it was also only 5 ft tall inside. Had it been 6 ft like the next model up, I would have kept it, despite it being 5 ft long (width) to sleep on couch. The door was at the back, and all it had was a jackknife sofa in the front that one could lay width ways on or 2 people could lay long ways if you had something propped under your feet. It was wired though fully, and had an electric fireplace in the corner and a tv with antenna.

    Big door kitchen. One wide drop down shelf for propane stove, 5 gal Coleman water cooler or 3 gallon water jug with spigot. 2nd shelf higher up, more shallow with baskets to hold cups, plates pans cutlery. Run led string lights. Store collapsible table and folding chairs to store under bed. Make rain/sun shade canopy for when door is open.
    Great base camp!

    Excellent trailer, I made one very similar years ago, with the fold down tray in the back door you could take the chains off and make a fold away triangle support underneath and when you fold down the tray just swing out the leg. When the back doors open you could stick Velcro around the opening on the inside and make a fly screen to match, to cover the whole opening day or night to keep the bugs out and the breeze coming in !! Under the bed I made 2 full size plywood draws that just slid on the carpet to keep everything in ! Seeya Rob

      I would build several boxes for each side that way anything that you do not use that often can stay in the box toward the front of the trailer and you do not have to drag it everytime you pull the boxes out.

    For convenient and easy access, mount 2 sliders underneath you bed. I have the same size trailer and I plan for a slider kitchenette for camping or a 5 years residential to save a chunk of $$$$.
    As for the door, a drop down all purpose counter the width of the door, with same window for view.

    Damn, lots of people have already suggested sliding storage.
    Ok, open the back door at a 90 degree angle and measure, get a piece of 3/8" steel rod and bend 2" angle on each end.then get some small straps and put one on the back of the trailer up high next to the rain drip shield.the other goes on the inside of the back door and it will hold it open if windy. Do the same on the passenger side and the out side of the back door, and it will hold open at 180 degrees. I also have a 5x8 enclosed I built

    I almost went this route, but I really wanted somewhere I could stand up all the way to get dressed, and also to get out of the rain/snow quick. And it's hard to find a 5x8 cargo trailer with a height of 6 foot. So I had to go up in size to a 6x12. Now it's a dry camper/toy hauler with just a twin bed frame, propane space heater, and a folding table for cooking on. I couldn't use the plumbing in an RV in the winter anyways, so It's the best option for winter camping. I can back the sled out and I'm set.

    Liked your video. One suggestion I have would be to rip a piece plywood the width of each of your storage areas under the bed. Cut them the length of the depth of the area. Slide them in prior to packing the storage area. when something in the back is needed, just pull it out. You could add a drop down leg to brace the slidein while it is extended.

    The table can be held by a set of fold down arms you can find on Amazon or EBay. They are pretty cheap, around $30 per set, or possibly less, depending on the load you want to put on your table.
    Build boxes.trays on wheels for the underside of the bed for storage. Just slide the box out to get to what you want. You will need to find a way to brace the box once it extends outside the cargo trailer.

    My vision is to add a shelf or shelves to the door. I would make a limited kitchen out of them with a single or small 2 burner stove. Then you could make coffee in the morning door closed, or open the door to cook a meal outside. My significant other doesn't camp, so I would make a bed only half as wide+/- as yours. Lots of things you could do if the bed wasn't that wide. An idea that wouldn't exactly work with the shelves I suggested would be a full width and height mosquito net for the back door, zipper of magnets for closing.

    • @ChasinSimplicity
      @ChasinSimplicity  4 года назад

      Great suggestions thank you so much! I agree with the bed. Even though it’s just me I could do with a smaller bed. Having said that I don’t like doing what some guys do and sleep on a 20” wide area ha.

    nice, I would build a fold up sofa bed cabinet in the back with a closet built above it for clothing, shoes... bed sofa folds up into cabinet for nice clean look. And would add storage on rooftop. Solar panels could be stored in sub floor slide out storage and when parked place in ☀️Get a bisquet joiner and build a nice functional cabinet. Use your tow vehicle such as van for storage keeping trailer minimal uncluttered and functional. A Japanese style floor chair that folds up are wonderful too. I would like the canopy fitted over a drop down Cargo door which would make a nice little deck or screened enclosure. Cargo trailer is a wise decision.

    Very nice build! A couple things I would change...1) Remove the bed and build a storage bench on both sides with hinged lids and full length cushions to serve as opposing couches. Then place table mounts at each end between the benches to have a long table for meals, laptop, cards, etc. Have two shorter lengths of tubing legs to drop the table down to make the space into your full size bed. Much more functional and easy to get at storage areas. 2) Install a fantastic or maxxaire fan in your ceiling vent. Anyway subbed and thumbs up!

    Gotta love the"Why don't you have a sink, shower, porta potty." You're a bloke travelling solo that's why.. You can shower at truck stops and the world is your toilet but seriously, all you need is minimal water storage to keep yourself and utensils clean, a loo of sorts is a good idea for emergencies (the bag type are simple) but it depends where you're travelling: solar is great and I too am going with a single or maybe a super single mattress as mentioned below (I want to keep the inside measurements about the same as a queen size bed so about the same as yours) plus under bed storage will be accessible by lifting it from the side :) I don't need a larger bed as I'm only 5'7"... My tow vehicle is an 80" wheelbase 140 rwhp (yes it's an air cooled VW but turbo'd) VW based dune buggy so weight has to be kept to a minimum and I will be adding electric brakes even though by law I don't have to. For me I'm definitely adding solar, TV and DVD player, portable cooker, fridge and a sink/wash basin emptying into a 5 gallon drum with an electric pump and garden hose to empty/water the gardens: no black water at all, I'd rather use a bottle for 1 and the bag system for 2's if there's no other options (nothing too fancy as it's only me) just need to be comfy and entertained on cold rainy nights.
    I will add that most of my leisure trips have been on motorcycles (the last being 7,335klm in 12 days) and for 17 year I drove interstate trucks, lived in one permanently for 2 of those when running east west (Sydney - Perth) with a road train so what you have is luxury :) I can afford a good motorhome and trailer to tow the buggy in but driving the buggy around Australia is my number one aim plus it's fun.
    The teardrops look pretty but the shape tends to waste too much space.
    Good vid, hope to see more... I still have to build mine, my trip is 12 to 18 months away and will be gone for possibly 2 years all up but the buggy is done: rebuilt engine, 4 wheel disc brakes: Haltech injection and ECU, re-wired etc etc etc.
    That table thing at the rear would be half ok if the chains were on the sides.

    • @ChasinSimplicity
      @ChasinSimplicity  6 лет назад

    This is my current idea for the interior of a similar size .Build a wide bench seat along most of one side.This will be a lounge base. Then have a murphy bed hinged along its length on to the top of the bench maybe 6 or 8 " from the side wall of the trailer so that the upright bed forms the back of this newly created lounge.Then place cushions or foam on the lounge. Hopefully the width of the bed does not interfere with the ceiling when it is upright. To sleep, remove cushions and lower the bed down having support under the opposite side of the bed as one side of the bed now rests on the bench[ this could be narrow cupboards the same height as the bench seat maybe some sort of kitchen or just 2 legs]
    ..The width of the bench seat would include the upright bed and the space for comfortable sitting .A net or piece of ply could hold the bedding when the bed is upright to keep the bedding in place/.Maybe this is too intense for such a tiny space but I'm still thinking about it.Good luck with your journey.

    Consider splitting the base of the bed lengthwise so that you can lift them like doors to get access to storage below. The foam mattress can "hump fold" lengthwise to the left or right while you are getting into the other sides storage that has its door up. Your hinges for the lift doors could be on whichever sides worked best for access and stability of the bed.
    A bucket with an adapted screw tight lid works well for over night restroom use. I have bought this type of adapted lids at Menards. They spin screw to the base that they come with. The lids work very well. You might want to make a small but sturdy frame for the bucket to sit in. Since you don't have a lot of space, the bucket might get tipped over otherwise. Emptied each morning, a squirt of Dr Teals liquid soap in a small amount of water at the bottom of the bucket keeps it fresh after a wash out.

    G’day mate, thanks for posting this vid.
    The table on your rear door; maybe have one that folds up instead of folds down. It will sit proud slightly when not in use due to the fold out supports on either side in behind, but you could make the table/bench as wide as you like.
    If you do decide to use the table or bench in conjunction with a kitchen set up, then I’d mount another awning above the rear door & pull that out when cooking.
    Happy times mate

    You can extend the length (living space) of the trailer by adding a ramp in the back, with a detachable (high strength) hook and cable rig to set the ramp at 90 degrees for a patio (like a draw bridge) ... you can add a slider attachments to the outside of the ramps and slid in stabilizer jacks/pegs if you want extra support for the patio ramp. Then you add a folding up door held in place by 2 steel rods or extendable rods that can be pegged into a ring system of 2 or 3 peg holder disk (you might need a friend to weld this for you) to have varies degress of height selection for the patio roof. For the walls you can add a duel curtain system if you want, a heavy duty see through vinyl patio curtain that can roll down (great for letting in more light) and a second layer of heavy duty grey nylon curtain to roll down if you want privacy (both curtain's down great for keeping heat in) and all held down by Velcro, and all the while you can still keep your swing back door. Keep in mind you need to add a seam covering for the roof, so rain water won't get in.

    Love it! My only suggestion is to build some wooden boxes under your bed area and keep all your stuff in them. They can be pulled out to access the storage rather than you having to crawl under there.

    • @ChasinSimplicity
      @ChasinSimplicity  6 лет назад

      Interesting idea. Do you mean access as in pull them upwards through the bed area? Or pull the boxes out towards me from the back/underneath the bed. It’s a great micro camper

    • @mikeorjimmy2885
      @mikeorjimmy2885 6 лет назад +1

      I would say one that you can pull out form the end. If you put some doors on the end of the bed under the mattress' you can just lift the mattress' up and get the material out. then for the area that is further under the bed use boxes on wheels and use a guide rope to pull them out. I'm sure there are others that have done something in a similar fashion.

    Put the spare and awning on opposite sides that way when you make that extra tent room you don't have a tire in it. Think is still want to go with roof mounted a.c.. and since we dreaming big just make it a slide out so it doubles in size when parked. Drawers under the bed that slide out would be a huge plus. And maybe a small solar system like a battery charger. Would catch enough energy to burn those lights at night.

    Have the bed so you can raise it to the roof went not traveling. This would give a lot of usable space. Lower the bed when traveling or sleeping. I would definitely have a composting toilet in there also -- or a porta-potty. Solar panels on the roof also. Beats a tear drop at least.

    That chain shelf is not a bad idea but the chain can be moved back halfway back on the board if you don't put heavy stuff on it. You can also use an affordable thin steal cable (X2) you can find at hardware stores where they can answer your questions.

    • @rodneyjordan5078
      @rodneyjordan5078 6 лет назад

      Joseph Nordenbrock I would use a couple of think dow rods under the table & lose the chains. One end would be connected by hinge to the table. It would fold away when not in use. To use, pull the table down and insert the other end of the dow into a hole or notch drilled into a 1 X 1 screwed into the door.

    #1, remove the chains on the laptop table, replace with a swinging support arm that folds flat to the door. #2,round off the corners of the cubbies to save denting your head, lol. #3, create 4 boxes with rollers to slide under the bed. You need 4 so you can keep them light , 2 under each side. After removing the 1st box on each side you can use a pull rod the reach the second box in the rear.
