It’s good to see the pros have a hard time too when they don’t have practice days and are on new lakes. It lets us weekend warriors realize we’re not doing so bad after all.😂
These guys are not pros, they are morons. They do not understand the big bass. Big fish are lazy and will not chase a lure. You have to make it easy for them. A slow presentation with a plastic worm with no weight applied gives it that slow sink and slow presentation that will most likely get you the big bass bite. However, you can`t get any casting distance using a baitcasting reel. I use the Zebco spincasting reel because it will out cast any other reel using light weight lures. They now have ball bearing drag systems and are very smooth and reliable.

I love the MLF format much better than bassPro. This format truly test both your skill & knowledge as fisherman.. no practice just get out there & fish. Hell that's how we all learned to fish anyway.. tight lines & Happy Holiday's all.
MLF is the BPT (Bass Pro Tour). They definitely practice before the BPT tournaments, just not for the cup events.

From the MLF events I have watched they started off saying this is a lake anglers don't know about until they day of the tournament. Hopefully that clears up any confusion of what tournament I am talking about. Either way my statement still stands of how I feel about tournaments overall I don't care if it's BASS, Toyota, or any others. If you claim to be a pro or the best no need to practices hell it's fishing..

I landed a 30 lb Pike using an old Zebco 33 reel back in the day. 12 lb test line and a crappy drag. Now they have ball bearing drag and smooth operating reels. Zebco is not to be overlooked. Bait casters are great for lures with weight that can pull line off the spool, but throwing plastic worms with no weight applied for that natural presentation, does not work with a bait caster. You can`t get any distance. Open face reels just don`t get much distance either. I don`t know why the Zebco reels are so good at casting for distance with light weight lures but they work great for that.

Big bass only need to eat one decent size fish to hold them all day. The big ones are lazy. The small ones will chase any bait. Remember that.

Know how tuff it can be . Been there more times than not.
The secret is big fish are lazy. A slow presentation will entice the bite from the big ones. I found that a plastic worm no weight applied with the slow sink and using the Zebco reels is the perfect combo for getting the big ones. The old Zebco reels were junk yet I landed a 30 lb pike with a Zebco 33 Back in the day. Now they have ball bearing drags and way better design than they did back then. It is not necessary to use a fancy bait casting reel to catch a bass. These boobs are speed jacking these lures and the big ones are too lazy to chase it. They only have to eat one decent size fish to last them all day. That usually happens at night. So these fishermen are hoping for a good day not knowing the feeding habits of big bass. If you throw a plastic worm with no weight and use the slow retreival, you will have a much better chance of getting the big bite vs the little ones that will chase any bait that you throw at them.

If I could afford a bass boat, I would have won this tournament only because I understand big fish and how lazy they are. A speedy retrieval is not the way to entice big fish.
Bro I’ve seen huge bass blow out of top water like 10 lbs. plus they are kinda un predictable when the water is cooler your right they do move a little slower I still see them hit big top water in cooler water temp
you also would need to overreact every time you get something on the lure, and dive into your boat like a moron when retrieving the thing. Like it's in the matrix, and your neo but it's just bass

Why do you guys fish small fish lakes? I mean it’s painful
All lakes have big fish in them. The big ones are too lazy to chase a lure. They fill their bellies with one fish at night. That will hold them all day. The small ones are hyper and will chase anything if they are biting. The big ones want an easy meal. That is why you should always use a slow presentation and a plastic worm with no weight applied for that natural presentation. As it slowly sinks, twitch it one or twice until it hits the bottom. Then twitch it slowly. That will entice the big bass to eat it without having to work for it. You want to get casting distance so use a ZEBCO spincasting reel. The new ones have ball bearing drag and work much better than the old school reels. Most will laugh at that until they are out fished and humiliated by the big bass that you will catch using a totally different approach. You can`t cast a worm with no weight applied with a bait casting reel. It won`t pull line off the reel. But the Zebco will free spool a lot of line off of it even using a light weight lure. Try it. You will be surprized how well they work now!
What’s the biggest fish that you’ve ever caught on a Zebco ?
I never see anyone using the Banjo Minnow. That bait came out many years ago and it catches fish like no lure ever in history. Why does no one use it? Is it banned in tournaments? I never get skunked when I go fishing. If the bite is dead, I tie on the Banjo Minnow using a Zebco spincaster (the new ones) and my stringer gets filled up fast with big fish! Never disrespect the Zebco spincaster. It has a smooth drag now and you can cast a light weight bait a mile with it. Never go to a tournament without one.
I watch these guys and I laugh. They are speed jacking these lures and that will not put fish in the boat. A slow lazy presentation will always out fish any other technique. A plastic worm, no weight applied and a slow sink will get the big ones. Large fish are lazy and will not chase a bait in most cases. After dark they will take top water lures like jidder bugs, but during sunlight hours they will lay low and watch your lure go by them with no interest. The small ones will chase it but who wants small fish in a tournament?
it's also pointless and only done on TV, ect it has nothing to do with fishing, our grandfathers don't do it and neither should anyone else.
