Gunn said ",,,Loved comics" Loved is past tense BTW. He like's very off center and irreverent comics and characters in many cases bends characters into that mold. That's why he hasn't been loved by in large for taking on this job. IMHO he only made one good comic book film and now sadly I'm looking at that one as a fluke and that was the first Guardians of the Galaxy. This first slate is just not good. By the way. Snyder wasn't trying to "catch up to the Marvel movies. The greedy executives were just coveting what was on another companies plate and ruined what they had. Gunn is in no way fixing it. It is the Gunn verse because he and his partner created the slate not the director or writer. The Director whomever THEY pick still has to paly in the continuity. They are shackled. This is not gonna work. They need to do a COMPLETE reboot. None of these on this slate will make a billion is my prediction.

I really don’t understand how some people can’t see that Dc is in the best position it’s been in in a while, or probably ever. They have 3 things there last regime didn’t: structure, leadership, and a plan. 2 people who are running a studio who are good at their respective jobs, and actually are out for the best interest of the universe. This was the best case scenario for DC. And I can’t wait to see where it goes.

@@SRT_IncTX The Snyderverse failed. I liked aspects of it, but it failed. Just cause you loved it doesn’t mean it didn’t have problems. Do I love there being 2 Batman? Yes and no. Wish there was a definitive, but I’ll take it. They’re going about it the best they can with what they have. You don’t have to pay attention to what they’re doing if the Snyderverse being gone hurts that badly. And really, You didn’t fight for the Snyderverse nearly as much as you all claim you did. If that were the case, MOS, BVS, Black Adam, and JL would’ve been more successful. But they weren’t. Move on, or continue wishing a broken universe could’ve been salvaged by watching everything snyder made since it happened already.

At the very least they have direction now that never existed before and there is no one to throw interference into the mix as had been done on past films. Just listen to Kevin Smith talk about his experience with WB if you want to know what kind of idiots use to run that company. The more I hear about Gunn's approach to all this, the more optimistic I have been for the future of DC.

If James Gunn gets this right, it would not only change the way studios make superhero movies, but movies as a whole. What do you think about James Gunn writing projects but not directing them? I love his writing and he's clearly prolific at it but directing takes a LOT of time and I worry that if he tries to do too much (writing, directing, Co-CEO of the entire DC Studios) it will push projects back which will frustrate everyone. But if he sticks to writing the scripts and then allowing others to direct the projects (with his oversight, of course) then he can have as much control over the story, tone and development as possible while still allowing others to put their imprint on it via directing and projects can come out on time.

Now, to counteract your last premise and play devil’s advocate, is it more important to construct a film slate for DC fans or one that has mass appeal? Especially considering that WB is struggling financially at the moment? I wish Gunn all the luck with his plan, but it does concern me that is not going to work out as he wants given that many of the projects announced may not bring the necessary cash to sustain it

If you just listen to them.. you’ll quickly realize they don’t know much about what they are “adapting” and some cases it’s beyond indifference and straight up dislike what the characters are. You should’ve known this at the latest after MoS that the creators and the fans of that project don’t actually like DC at all or even know anything about it… they just like the power sets and wanna see hard punches, super speed, and murder. They want superpowered action figures and not the DC characters (HEROES).

He definitely does deserve this role and after his story I do have faith in him. I think people need to let them work and we can judge later. It really gave me real excitement when he talk about every writer and Director for the different projects are gonna be able to do their own thing because that’s EXACTLY how it is in the comics 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾. Which is huge first step in the right direction, unlike the MCU which all there movies feel and setup the same. I still think he could’ve used bigger Ip’s to help Batman and Superman, however he did kill it with Guardians and Suicide Squad, so I’m still not worried lol. I truly can’t wait

The same mistakes aren't being made and people need to know that. Gunn is creating the foundation of the DC Universe to step into while at the same time not repeating the same things we've seen before and giving the people what they deserve. Which means a Superman with longevity, Batman with the Bat Family finally on the big screen, new elements like The Authority and Creature Commandos to expand the DCU and create new interest and storyline, background storyboarding that support the Gods and Monsters theme of the first chapter and much more. I just finished reading Justice League: The Darkseid War and in that, they mention the phrase, "Gods and Monsters". This chapter is a full-on establishing of the DCU and setting up for a cohseive saga that is fresh for our characters we know and love. All good things. Gunn certainly has to prove himself but ultimately Gunn is giving the cinematic DCU what it needs, injecting what he does best, and writing the vision and making it plain. Good video. Stay hopeful my DC friends.

Wonder Woman was active in World War I, but destroyed cameras to act in secret for decades. Why!? Batman has a reason to conceal and/or use shadows to evoke fear- that’s not the standard for every DC character.

I think the biggest thing for this universe is that if he is going to keep characters from the snyderverse he should only keep minor characters ie waller, maybe harley quinn, etc, but if they keep jason mamoa and ezra miller but get rid of the rest it is extremely unfair because they are all around the same age with the exception of miller soi they cant use that excuse. I really think that they need to recast every major character or else there is absolutely zero reason to recast superman and batman but keep the rest.

It's crazy that the MCU is the most successful franchise in the history of cinema-- more billion dollar films than any other and more total and worldwide gross and all based on superheroes--- that blows my mind! No one would've guessed that to be the case 15 yrs ago!
WB/DC saw all that happening and asked the right questions, "why can't we have similar success"-- of course the execution was wrong and the rest is history!
First off I don't get ur criticisms of the MCU being all the same-- Spider-Man trilogy, Captain America trilogy and the Thor trilogy are nothing alike and all have totally different themes. Same goes with Eternals, Shang Chi and Wakanda Forever-- all very u IW ur feels. And I can post for u director after director all saying they were free to create the movie/show they wanted and weren't part of a machine contrary to false popular beliefs. No need to talk down the MCU to prop up DCU-- I love both and hate when peeps do that and this isn't ur first video doing that!
As for the new SC slate I say bring it on-- sounds super exciting a new fresh start! I wishing them all the luck and most looking forward to the Green Lantern show!! Let's GOOOO!!!

I'm really hopeful for this because they seem to have learned a lot from mistakes made with the Snyderverse. Let me just say I respect Snyder as a director and I love a lot of his work outside of these movies but looking at the snyderverse his best film is Man of Steel by far and I think that's because as much as Snyder may have respect for Batman as a character he doesn't seem to like him much. Having Batman be a killer from the beginning is like an elseworlds approach to the character and what they should have done is have Snyder start on Man of Steel 2 while Ben Affleck could make his own Batman movie. Now with Reeves he said before he wanted to make The Batman a personal and grounded story if the studio then force him to add superman the least grounded character there is, literally and figuratively, it would harm his vision. Reeves would also just refuse, he said that during his pitch to WB for The Batman he told the executives "I respect that Batman is your property so if you don't like my pitch don't hire me find someone else but if you hire me leave me alone to do what I think is best" I'm paraphrasing there but that was the jist of it.
The way things are happening now in the DCU is a much more logical and cleaner way to build a universe you have a team of people with a clear vision for the universe then directors and actors can come in and maybe put their twist on it but they only come in if they fit the wider scheme of things rather than trying to push a director into building an entire universe in 4 movies all by themselves.

The comment from James Gunn is very telling, and simultaneously the problem with how modern people think about Superman... he is more of an ideal than a character that people want to see and follow along. Watching him in action is only interesting for a few moments before it gets boring because it's so idealized... and idealized characters...can be very boring because they are predictable. That is part of the reason why some people gravitated towards the Snyderverse Superman because they tried to change him a bit from the classic ideal of Superman

The problem is that we've heard all this before... even though I loved Peacemaker quite a bit, his "The Suicide Squad" failed to move me honestly and didn't do that well in the Box Office so this could go either way for DC to have him helm DC entertainment

Hey Boba, We are all talking about the new slate, but I feel like we are pretending to be excited. When I heard the highly anticipated Gunn announcement my first reaction was.... Eh.🫤
Am I wrong for thinking that? Is these obscure projects really something to be excited about?

    • @BobaTalks

Not at all. There's been a lot of ups and down with DC over the past several years when it comes to a connected universe. I think for a lot of people they're getting to a near point of apathy, and as I go on to mention in the video, they'll needs to see it to believe it with some of these projects. It would be interesting to know what you think would have excited you though?

@@BobaTalks So ive always been a DC fanatic since i was a kid, so obviously I thought that there would be the trinity FOR SURE. But I guess i was wrong.
I love Green Lantern so i wished that wouldve been a movie,
And for the most part, these all seem like characters that nobody besides for hardcore fans know.... its just a wierd strategy and I was hoping for more heavy hitters i suppose.

@@BobaTalks I think it looks exact opposite. It looks bland and that's good cause if it becomes banger it will be considered as a comeback from bottom. Having marginal hype is best thing given what happened to Star wars and MCU.
Even I remember not many people were excited for TDK trilogy but we got better than expected. Everyone was simping Clooney's Batman before movie dropped and we all know that it almost killed the franchise.
Everything does not need to be hyped. it could be subtle and something good to watch And even to revisit

I love the approach to the new Wonder Woman franchise. Paradise Lost should definitely take inspo from Wonder Woman: Historia books for Diana’s origin and Phil Jimenez’s arc where the Bana-Mighdall Amazon tribe fought with Themyscirans. Maybe this show will be the origin of the other tribe(s) and how they split from the island
