Amtrak Southwest Chief Trains 3 & 4 in La Plata, MO - August 27, 2022

- During a weekend getaway, I spent some time on BNSF’s Southern Transcon in Northeast Missouri, specifically in La Plata. Amtrak plays a vital role in La Plata, serving the nearby college town of Kirksville. Amtrak’s Southwest Chief comes into town twice daily, running between Chicago & Los Angeles.
In this video, we capture both Southwest Chief trains arriving into & departing from the small community of La Plata. Eastbound Train 4 is seen first arriving at 11:32am (approximately two hours behind schedule) and westbound Train 3 is seen last arriving at 8:05pm (28 minutes behind schedule).

great catches and video of these 2 chiefs at this Plata
It should be noted that the La Plata station is one of only 2 Amtrak stops in MO for the Southwest Chief, the other being Kansas City. Thus the station sees a high volume of traffic relative to the population of La Plata proper. Nice to see the station rehab up close. Can't wait 'til Virtual Railfan puts up the new cameras.

@@steverudder3321 They should be pretty close; the roof has been replaced, and the new siding is up. They're rebuilding the wooden decking on the west side of the station. Somebody on the VR feed mentioned that there's still some work to do on the windows.

Two things that I have enjoyed from the current camera location are the thunder/lighting/rain storms and the fireflies.♥️ Two things that we don't get in God forsaken So California.

VRF's own Indyrat handled the stationmaster's duties that night. He's pretty awesome in his own right.

@@K1OIK GEM refers to the vehicle, a GEM Polaris electric car. The GEM ladies are 2 local nonagenarians who drive to the La Plata station most evenings in good weather to meet the Amtrak # 3 SW Chief.
@@SarahRenz59 "Nonagenerians" - now that's a word you don't see every day!! Knowing both ladies are in their 90s, I accurately guessed the meaning of the word, but I still had to look it up to be sure. Good word choice!!
