Not sure why Charles Worth is considered the father of Haute Couture when Rose Bertin was making dresses for Marie Antoinette. Maybe because he was a man? Or maybe because his work has survived? I think he was he the first to present collection for the two seasons. But not sure about that. But Paris was already the capital of fashion and luxury for centuries before Worth even set up shop. His work is AMAZING but i am not sure he was father of anything other than his sons.

      I agree with you!
It's just that there were a lot of new and revolutionary things he brought to the world of sales...I think that's the point).
And also, it's just such a popular expression, so it's accepted to talk about him, but it doesn't mean that he was the only one so great ).
      Thanks for your opinion!❤️

@@FashionQuestion Do an episode on Rose Bertin. Marie Antoinette was considered the Queen of Fashion. Lots of the legitimate biographies on her talk about her dressmaker Rose Bertin and how they started trends and new fashions together.

I think the reason was that she dressed clothes that had been cut by men. Women were not allowed to become tailors. Bertin would trim and embroider and add flowers but she didn’t actually make clothes so the idea of a designer didn’t exist. The style of dress changed very little year on year. The cut might not change for five years. Instead the trimming would reflect recent happening. Colours might show an allegiance to a person. There was a colour that became fashionable because it reminded the king of the contents of his baby sons nappy/diaper. Puce became fashionable it reminded the king of a flea, puce in French.

I used to work for a French company when I was working there the owner got married. Her wedding dress was made by the house of Christian Dior, it was a stunning wedding gown made of lace with a long train. I know for a fact that her wedding dress cost over $500,000.

WoW!!!At such moments it becomes obvious that fashion is a kind of art...Although it is hard for me as a person living in a country where there is a war to understand buying a dress for such money) I immediately consider the number of weapons that can save lives...
But somewhere there is another life, and it's beautiful!
