Wild Camping & a Trangia Masterclass at Gunnerside Gill, the Yorkshire Dales

- Having parked at Rukin’s farm campsite in Keld, I hiked to the abandoned Lead Mines at Gunnerside Gill via Swinner Gill, where I pitched my Mountain Laurel Designs Duomid behind the ruins of a stone building.
When is was time for dinner, I cooked lamb steaks in red wine and balsamic vinegar on my Trangia stove.
A fantastic pitch in spectacular surroundings, I hope you enjoy watching.

Yeah, it was a great spot. Pan flat grassed area. Really nice area generally. All the best mate 🙏
That food looked delicious 👍
Thanks Carol. It was very nice if I do say so myself 😉
Thanks for commenting 🙏
Nice one Steve knobbly knees and stove gymnastics. Keep em coming.
Thanks Pete, much appreciated. 👍
That meal looked mint. Got a trangia 27 with the gas burner as well but never used it like that. Hat's off to you. Been up that valley twice, cracking place to camp.
Cheers Andy 👍 I love cooking with the trangia. Just got a Trangia 25 for when I’m normal camping. All the best mate 🙏
Love your video format and every time I watch you make fab tasty food look simple I add the trangia to my must get one day list.
Suggest you pass your top pack strap trough your trangia bag string loop. That way if the kit breaks free again it's still hanging on by the string loop on your hopefully still fastened up back pack strap. I ensure i do that with all my external items.
That’s a great tip Philip. Many thanks 🙏
Cracking pitch. Love the landscape down there. The trangia now has a good memory dent with a story to be told for many years about that haha. Yet again, a top meal. Even my lass says.... is he a chef! Top vlog mate and looked a cracking time too! Look forward to the next as always!
Nice one Mark. Yeah, a nice battle scar for the stove. It’s bomb proof mate.
All the best 👍
Great video again !
Thanks Brian. Hope you’re both chipper. 🙏
Lovely camp Ste. And that lamb dinner mate 😋😋😋
That region is definitely on my list. 🙌
Yeah, lots to explore in the Dales. Thanks for watching Wayne.
All the best mate 👍
Great stuff mate😊. 👏👍
Thank you 🙏
Great video mate. I've been thinking about a quilt. It looks good
Really comfortable mate. I’ll stick to a bag in the deep winter trough. Cheers for watching marra 👍
Great video mate , lovely grub and one of my favourite spots 👍
Nice one Rob. Much appreciated 👍
Canny little spot yooze find there Steve, nearly a disaster there dropping ya Trangia gear 😮, you definitely know how to knock up some good camp food 👌, quality mate, atb Mick 👍
Cheers Mick. My heart was in my mouth as the Trangia hurtled down the ravine. Wish I had it on film. Shows how bomb proof they are, only a tiny dint in the pan.
When’s your next camp mate?
@@belowaveragewildcamper am heading up to simsonside/Harwood forest area tomorrow for a camp mate, we’ll…that’s the plan
@@otf.outdoors looks like a great area mate. We’re forecast is good. Enjoy mate. 👍
Nice camp and the NVQ master chef leads the way with trangia! 😁
Nice one 🤣
Really enjoyed your WHW video this week. Hope you’re well mate. ATB 🙏
You are the Trangia Whisperer mate!!😂😂👍🏻👍🏻Great video thank you so much. So glad you didn’t mention the nvq!!! 😂😂😂
Thanks Andrew. Did I
Not mention it 🤔?
I’ll do an extended piece on it next time 🤣
🙏
I only subscribed for the regular, albeit immodest, showcasing of what is a much maligned qualification.
Besides, how else will new non-NVQ (Catering) viewers understand how he does that Mise en place, all over the place, eh?
Think on. Mister.
@@Yurty328 🤣
nice one. In all seriousness, I wish I could have gone on and done level 2 and 3. Alas, it wasn’t offered as a night class.
👨🍳
I have got the exact same Mld duomid in orange......looks great in pictures. Sil poly doesn't soak up water so doesn't sag like sil nylon and SP dries very quickly too.
👍 it’s a thing of Beauty I think.
Yeah, the SilNylon does need tightening when it’s wet. Don’t think I’ll be upgrading my Duomid anytime soon. The SilNylon still seems a cracking tent.
Thanks for watching commenting. All the best 👍
Nice, I’d love to get here ⛺️ also a new recipe to try, great combination 🎥 class
‘It was entirely my pleasure Wayne. Many thanks 🙏
You finally got to Gunnerside then ey! Pitched in the same spot we did last time. Terrible in the summer for midges 😂 great video!
Cheers Lee. Thanks for the advice. Had a mint night. 🙏
Ooof that's some creme de la creme gear, the Geordie Darwin on the trail, although your lamb hot pot definitely beats cold soaked couscous…
GAS (gear acquisition syndrome). It’s gruel at home.
Thanks for watching mate 🙏
Well having finally got home after another proper shite day💩👎😡🤬, I've just sat 4 a few minutes & thoroughly enjoyed another class video☀️, great filming, views amazing, rivers, old buildings to explore, etc, magic...👍 & also another NVQ Level-1 Masterclass in Professional Cooking, a la rolling Trangia...!😄 Nice...😋 Be good to see abit more of the food, does anyone actually eat it...?!!🤔🤣 My Pack's all ready to rock⛰️& roll🥐again, but unfortunately my cars not, as it's proper shagged at the mo🤯, so haven't' camped🏕️out since Feb🥶, bummer...!😔 May have to consider a bus ride with the mutt...!🐕🐶✔️💯...
Hi Kevin. I’m really pleased you enjoyed it mate and it hopefully cheered you up a bit.
Next video I’ll show you the food and do a taste test 🤣
All the best mate. Have a great weekend. 🙏
Great video - I was up there about a year ago and camped at the higher buildings - keep em coming. Have you thought about doing a vegetarian masterclass??
Thanks for watching and commenting David.
As a matter of fact I have. I love Indian vegetarian cooking. Watch this space mate. 🙏
