The best thing about Yara is, though she’s mature, there’s still a youthfulness about her.. great job parentals
She is incredibly ADORABLE, yet soooooo mature and intelligent. Just in how she takes a compliment. Ugh, really a good one, that girl. ❤️
So True! There's another young actress (on a certain very popular Netflix show) who is clearly mature, but seems to try so hard to Not be youthful, that I think it has made a lot of people dislike her. But of course, many young teenagers try to act grown so they're taken more seriously, not realizing that is has the opposite effect.
Love her ❤❤
She so genuine and inclined. Very sophisticated
Anna F. Yara’s parents are amazing. They had her reading books by 2 years of age.
I love this, the way she explained the issue of young black kids being forced into an adult space! So articulate.
The interviewer had great thought out questions which were heightened by his respectfully allowing Yara to express herself thoroughly. For Yara's part, she is articulate, honest and purposeful in her comments, which made the interview all the more engaging. Truly one of the best interviews from both sides I have every watched.
or he talk too much , like really too much
I totally agree. This is the best interview I’ve seen in years, the interviewer wasn’t trying to lead the questioning into a certain topic. He had concise questions that allowed Yara to expound deeply. Bravo 👏🏽 I typically love all of Yara’s interviews though lol.
This is a great interview
Well said!
💯💯🙌🏾🙌🏾
She said it best.....advocate for yourself, before you advocate for others...... A lesson I need 2 learn
I am still learning this
"I feel much more comfortable talking about politics than I do standing up for myself." I've never felt a quote so deep before.
This girl is a credit to her generation and to conscious sisters!
Yes, I love black women young and older know themselves. Have confidence and willing to grow.
She did the most incredible job during this interview. The interviewer was incredible. He needs to do more. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
They are both so incredible!
Good interviewer. Most entertainment reporters just kiss up and talk superficial junk.
So true
I agree...he did a good job.
I’m a pretty articulate individual but I can’t find the words to describe how absolutely brilliant and beautiful this young woman is!!
She is so well spoken and matured for her age. I truly commend you for standing up for not only yourself but on behalf of those that don’t necessarily have the voice or influence to do likewise
Not so much "well-spoken" as much as well-actualized.
I would say it goes beyond "well-spoken." She is brilliant. Exceptionally intelligent.
Yes too bad she refuses to take Zendayas stance and stop contributing to the erasure of unambigious Black women in the media. The Sun is Also a Star was supposed to be a DSBW but Yara accepted the role.
As a biracial Afro-ethnic woman she should help increase the proper representation of Black women rather than contributing to the erasure.
@@israeliana 💯🙌🏽😌
@@carlosandmuriel I agree. When your basic needs are met you can focus on improving yourself to any level you desire. After that you are empowered to look at the world around you and how you can explore, embrace and create change everyone can benefit from.
Who is this interviewer? Give him all the interviews to do!
@Thornback Dee Vahs comments isn't about race and her comment doesn't need to be turned into a race issue.
Kudos to the interviewer. Certainly, he lets the star of the interview have a voice and just becomes the supporting role. Weirdly, it makes him stand out more coz it's not the norm in media
@Thornback so what, even if a white man did a good job it should not be said? That's racist!! And this comes from a black person. You are the one who brought race into the discussion when there needn't be one except the motivation of both Yara and the interviewer. HE MADE HER SHINE for heavens sake!!!!
Agreed! He is fantastic
Thornback I’m gonna give you the benefit of the doubt that you’re not serious.
Black and Iranian?...yea people got tickled. I'm so proud of you girl. Keep being you ❤

Story of every young adult's life ESPECIALLY in the workplace.
As IRANIAN man i am proud.
So so beautiful and mature.
I see her in oscar winners.
God bless you YARA
I can definitely understand why Harvard, amongst others, would want her.
... because she's only black-ISH.
@@clarencewilliamsperturbed7240 or cause she’s smart and that could be a plus🤔😐
I'm waiting for the day anyone tells me my hair is "unprofessional".
Well no one can say that since indian child weave is not your hair.
suffolk6311 excuse you. Anything I buy is MY property. So MY hair, and if you know anything about the colorism black women face you would know that weave isn’t unprofessional to the work force it’s our NATURAL hair.
@@suffolk6311 Are you daft?Clearly I was referring to my real hair!
natural4lifemiss That’ll be the day baby I swear it’s over
suffolk6311 As many white people who wear weave aka extensions then I see no problem... its unfortunate because you continue to use the stereotype that black women cannot have long hair or only use weave.
This young lady is beautiful inside and out - she’s so self-aware & mature, especially for her age. Her mom & dad did an outstanding job👏🏽
Love hearing her speak, so intelligent.
Bravo Yara Shahidi!!!!! I don't even know you but as a biracial father of a 21 biracial daughter, you give me such hope for our younger generation. I'm super proud of you & your powerful voice!
She is the young woman, I wish I had been. There are so many articulate and unafraid young women that are half my age and I wish I had had their courage to speak out. I admire them and this interview made me cry.
sarah michelle You’re not alone in this thought. I’m 34 and wish I had the courage back then to so unafraid and outspoken.
@@KLB1218 So glad that you understand me xx wishing you well xx
You can't change the past. Be that strong and unafraid person now. We live and we learn.
This comment is so humble. I love the transparency and honest. You're never to old to learn.
you can still be that woman now. its never too late darling. society makes alot of women feel like they cannottttt speak up, or else we will be punished. so dont feel guilty. you got this ♥️
I'm so glad she did that!. I too have decided that, if I realize that this is the case, I will no longer be the token black friend!
She is absolutely everything. Just beauty in every way possible.
Nicole, you too are just beauty in every way.
She’s a real “Force for Change” indeed. God bless her career path.
Yara is one of the most underrated celebritys
As an actress or as a person....what do you mean?
@@dahenry8888 both tbh
GREAT INTERVIEW
Thanks for not asking her, her favourite colour or food or if she's single
Both Yara and this interviewer were so on point!! This was an amazing interview to watch
She reminds me of Angela Bassett. She’s inspirational.
How???? She doesn't look like her or sound like her. She doesn't have the same body type, or anything similar outside of being black, female and being smart. Which means she is like 75% to 80% of all other black women in the world.
@@redblkgirl99 shes actually biracial
@@honeyhernandez91 oh I know!!! Just that Yara identifies as a Black woman not as a Persian woman (or Arab woman not sure what ethnicity her father is and don't want to be disrespectful)
redblkgirl99 the way she carried herself. Calm down
@@coole7653 I wasn't hyped up. Its just I find we often think we are being complimentary by saying young black / person of color woman x reminds me of older black / person of color woman x because they are of the same or similar ethnic backgrounds and have similar positive character traits. The only way that would be a compliment is if it was a rare character trait. So Yara carrying herself with some class and dignity or being intelligent and well spoken shouldn't remind you of any other black woman in particular because there are a ton of black woman (even in Hollywood) that are that. I would hazard to say that even in this chat there are a bunch of us that are that.
It shows that people don't really see nuance or people for who they are. You have a character trait that I like (or hate) and this actress that I love (hate) does too and you two belong to the same race/ ethnic group y'all remind me of each other.
Beyonce told us our skin is just like diamond and when i look at Yara and other black women out there
I know in my heart that its true. Our skin is just like diamond 😊❤
I'm sorry but I'm hoping you knew this before any celebrity made you feel this way....remember these are just celebrities. You are beautiful.
@@dahenry8888 Awww thanks 😊
Stacy Brenda if India Arie said it would it matter? Not messing with you, I just want to hear a fan’s response
@@tiatalko2541 yes it would....if Any black person tells me am beautiful i am straight away going to belive that and its not because i need valiadation from people but because i think its beautiful when a black person looks at another black person and tells them do not care about what society thinks or says about your skin.you are beautiful dont listen to them.
She's so intelligent. This video was a joy to watch
Teachhhhhh, Queen Yara, teach! And excellent questions from the interviewer and I can tell he really respects her.
I vote Yara for president. Who’s with me? She is so well spoken. 👌🏾
Love her and all her black girl magic 😍💕
I mean... GOSH. She such an intelligent woman. We definitely need more women like her.
What a great interviewer! I really loved this interview ❤️
An absolutely BRILLIANT young lady.
What an informative, insightful, and interesting interview!!! Both the interviewer and the interviewee, did an amazing job and showed such intelligence!! We need more of this in our world today!!!🤗
Oh my God I’ve never heard a British reporter this on it with questions my goodness me
WELL DONE!!
I wish the conversation was longer😍
She’s so well spoken, very wise beyond her years
This interview was excellent, both Yara Shahidi and the interviewer (Josh Smith).
Beautiful, well-balanced young lady. Well done mom and dad. 😊 oh yeah... and beautiful hair
This young woman’s intellect is not a game, it makes her even more physically beautiful. Well done, Yara!😍Well done Parents.😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
Yara always impresses, but I must also say that the interviewer was a delightful surprise. I had never heard of him before, but now I will seek out more of his work.
Hearing a young person speak and not use "like" every three words is so refreshing! There is still hope.
She’s so Articulate and Down to Earth 🌎❤️ I hope to portray this one day and I’m 25 🙌🏾
I loved how laid back this interview was. It felt like a thoughtful conversation between two intelligent and socially caring/conscious human beings. Great questions.
One of the best interviews I've seen in a very long time. He had well thought out questions and she is brilliant. Well done!
Am so glad she did that, props to her for staying her ground and staying true to herself, her community and culture. She's really advocating on issues put under the rug. Absolutely proud👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦🇿🇦
Lindokuhle Mbonambi why do South Africans always have the need to paste their flag everywhere they leave a comment, you all can’t make a point without your flag being used like some highlight? I am from Southern Africa btw (thank God not from South Africa)

Beautiful young lady. Parents you've done a great job.
This was such a great discussion. 👏🏾 We need more of these.
Its it's hard for you to have an interview with the interviewer asking the right questions, while listening to you also, contributes positively to the interview and I would like to say thank you Josh Smith for this. I so obviously I love Yara she's always been outstanding in the way she portrays herself and stands up for what she really does believe in thank you Queen👑 love😍👏👌 you.
Kudos to this interviewer
Great interviewer, great questions great interviewee
This was a highly intelligent/ thought provoking interview ! One of the best I have seen thus far.Yara is effortlessly and naturally articulate. The interviewer really asked GOOD questions...
I love Yara! She really empowers me as a WOC!
She is so well spoken and smart...also very beautiful
SHES SO GOSH DARN ELOQUENT, I love it!!!
She's an inspiration for all young women, whatever your ethnicity; growing up in society today. Great interview.
identity categories spot on
ur so eloquent and warm and aware but with enormous empathy
awesome family
2 major communities IRAN and AFRICAN AMERICAN
Beautifully illuminated fluency. Superior flow of knowledge and cognizance. Wow. I'm proud
Why did she just remind me of Olivia Pope with how she spoke about the magazine editor? A younger version...
She actually played the childhood version of Olivia Pope on Scandal.
Plus she smiles a bit like Kerry Washington
Eloquent, Educated, beautiful young lady! Thankyou for being a wonderful role model and helping change the world❤️
The Hollywood Reporter has learnt from your refusal, I think. That a young woman who has not suffered abuse from the industry feels more free to inform this industry and demand more from it, not for herself but for PROGRESS is inspirational. The roundtables and the covers have been more diverse lately. Thank you Yara
She's too young to legally drink, yet has more maturity than the whole U.S. Senate (Pres and his admin as well).
Very much so.
She shined in this interview. And I loved his energy as well.
Yara is my idea of an absolute STAR and a Beauty like no other!! Would LOVE to paint her face!! Love her voice, love her mind.
So eloquent, so well-spoken, so composed, so intelligent, I admire her so much.... her mind, her galaxy brain!!!!!!!!
I consider myself to be well educated...I'm 22...and this 19 year old sis really had me look up the words she was saying in order to completely understand the content of her responses. She's amazing.
Really? She's amazing yes, her vocabulary is equal to words I studied in high school. Trepidation, homogeneous, reductive, purview, selfcentric. Her delivery is what amazes me, very mature presence. Now I've got to make sure my daughters get into their dictionaries so they're not so easy to impress with words not used on a daily basis.
She is def one of the real ones. Such an icon in the making... ❤️
Love her. My kids are Lebanese and black so when I see Yara I imagine this is what my daughter would look like (I'm black). She's smart and talented. Triple threat!
a Persian-African queen
twistedblktrekie You’re Right, i’m sorry. She is a Persian-African queen. Thank you for pointing that out :) I just looked up her mom and they look so much alike. They’re almost the same person haha
I’m shocked how black she looks lol if I didn’t see her father I would think he was Afro-Persian
Well her dad isn't white. He is caucasian but he’s not white as in european so she is mixed race her mother black american and her father a caucasian iranian man
@@iniakinsa he is not caucasian, caucasian are people that originally come from the caucasus mountains of Georgia Russia. So are you saying one of his parents are white, if not then he would not be caucasian. you have to do some research on what caucasian means. its a geographical location than the color of the skin.
He is caucasian the definition of caucasian is relating to one of the traditional divisions of humankind, covering a broad group of peoples from Europe, western Asia, and parts of India and North Africa that is the literal dictionary definition. Iran is in western asia he is caucasian he is not white but he is still caucasian. White people are caucasian but not all caucasians are white you should also do your own research
I LOVE absolutely everything about this. Thoughtful, current questions and equally progressive, yet youthful responses that demonstrate the intentional way her parents are guiding and educating she and her brothers. Well done!
Well said Yara. This was an amazing interview - such depth to topics people try to shy away from. Well done luv 🤗
Yes! Such a good interview! Shocked to hear she was 19. Wow. I’m a new fan🌟
Josh Smith did an absolutely fabulous job, a beautiful representation of what British journalism should be. Engaging and thoughtful in what he says, non- dismissive. Shout out to Yara articulate as always
Although Yara is an extraordinary human, I have to give props to Mom & Dad! Imagine their dinner table discussions...
I love when interviewers prepare and ask thought provoking and insightful questions. It goes without saying that I also love Yarah. She's what I'd like my daughter to be like.
I have high hopes that this young lady will do something greater than what she’s already doing right now. Beautiful.
She’s 19?! One reason Oprah calls for her presidency!
Aquarius both of them oyoooo♒❤
Oprah is satanic
@Elegant Oprah just because you fall for the foolery doesn’t mean others have to she’s involved with sex trafficking those African girls in Africa her and Bill Gates so instead of being ignorant why don’t you look up the facts
when someone wants you to be an adult to make them money, but want to disregard you and treat you like a child when what you say is inconvenient for them to hear to the point that they don't even care to hear you...it's time to leave. Good for her.
She is a very mature and amazing young lady and very knowledgeable and open to growth. She is going to go really far as an individual. Those around her may present her with hurdles but she is sharp and will know how to handle it all.
💗 There is still hope for a better future, the kids are going to be alright 🙏We just have to support hear them out and love them through. The more we do this, the more likely they with be able to critically think and be thoughtful like this. Great interview.
I absolutely love Yara. Also loving this interviewer! Well done! ❤️❤️
She makes more sense than the idiot politicians , President and PM in both side of the Atlantic. Proud of her and the work she doing.
She speaks so eloquently
I love how confident she is, she is so amazing at expressing her opinion, she inspires me and at the same time I have a huge crush on her, she's amazing and deserves the best 🥰 I love how her voice reaches through the camera, so genuine and caring.
This was a word. God Bless this young woman.
🙌🏾🙌🏾 great interview !
Give this interviewer all the awards! He is a great listener and speaker! Yara 👑
Intelligent,talented and a beautiful role-model.
Amazing Interview 👍🏾👍🏾
Thank you for an inspiring video. Wow this young lady is the future. You both gave an effortless interview that was enjoyable to watch.
An interview of a young woman that’s not about clothes, makeup, hair and beauty routine!!! I’m loving it🤗 We have so much to offer in society than just beauty 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Such ELEGANCE!!! ❤️ Is it just me or does she lowkey look like Angela Bassett. Love love d hair! 💕💕💕
Great job Josh. Great interview!!!
Yara speaks for all young people . These issues are things that happen even in everyday situations and is something we have to break meeting a new decade. Love you Yara for representing voices who are unheard.
I loved this interview!!!
Love her power of voice we all have her back im glad to see more people like this we got u Yara , u good
So amazingly well spoken
Great interview, I love what Yara Shahidi had to say.
KUDOS!!! Your parents are to be commended for not forgetting they were your parents, FIRST, regardless of society.
You, I 💖 listening too because you see beyond the linear. Def Role Model for the confused youth, it is what it is.
