Excruciatingly beautiful is exactly right. Headed to my fourth show of his 7/27 and I’m so excited for myself. It’s medicine, therapy… me pouring back into myself.
Why do people find a constant need to compare everything... Justin Vernon has a beard, James has a beard, 'fuck who had a beard first?' Justin sings in falsetto James sings in falsetto 'fucking Jeff Buckley sang in falsetto first!' Music wouldn't be where its at if people didn't take inspiration from eachother, musicians grow as a whole together in this way, its like evolution but in an art form. P.s anyone who knows what is good for them should grow a beard.
Funny thing is that I discovered James way before Bon Iver. So really it's a matter of opinion on "who did it first." Each artist is different, so stop comparing.
People need to stop bringing every guy with a high pitched voice doing that kind of music to Bon Iver. James has been there for years and many musicians in europe, specially in UK and Ireland have been working in this direction. Bon Iver's sound (wich I love by the way) is influenced by those musicians too. So I know he's American and that's why most of the people know him better, but he didn't single-handedly created this style guys...
What he didn't say was that he was diagnosed with Strep the day before... Check out his RTE performance of GOLD. Stellar and powerful. I hate haters. Bon Iver did it first? God your a tool! James sings in his natural range and writes beautiful concise songs that offer as much as they allude to. I love Bon Iver too, but C'MON!
i want to love this album, but i just can't. I hate that feeling. And i absolutely adored james' first album. I cant even tell you how many times ive listened to it. I know artists have to evolve, but it just sucks when something so perfect has to change
This is immediately before their bus blew up on the way to vancouver that caused them to be really late in Edmonton and Aidan Knight had to shorten his set. It was a really great show though.
Was wondering the same thing. It’s basically a Les Paul Custom Ebony with a Lucille body. The bridge is definitely in the Les Paul family. It doesn’t have that Lucille bridge; in fact other than those double horns it looks almost standard issue late-model Custom Ebony. I’d be curious if you figured out an answer yourself in the past … eight years.
stealingroses The timing was great, the feel was ok, the tone was poor. With all the beautiful timbres coming from the vocals, the drum's tone became average and off.
This guy is a underrated LEGEND.
his voice and lyrics are unmatched by any artist
His voice and his music are excruciatingly beautiful... I don't know how else to describe it. He must have been through a lot of pain. I'm a new fan!

+Toby Johnson - James is the man! There is no question about that.
I have to say, KEXP is hands down the best at live music. So many amazing artists, all in flawless quality. Really fantastic.
Cavalier is the best thing I've heard in awhile, instafan
This is absolutely breathtaking...
Funny thing is that I discovered James way before Bon Iver. So really it's a matter of opinion on "who did it first." Each artist is different, so stop comparing.

I just came across my precious music.
Saw him a week ago ish, such an amazing performance.
Time is vindicating JVM as his new albums each have a new feel and energy. He isn"t copying, he is exploring.
John Richards is such a legend. So genuine and warm. Hell yeah KEXP.
man, glacier is such an incredible song.
A lovely set. Nice band. Someone said it, and I will echo.... Thanks, KEXP!

first second-thoughts "booooooooooooooooooooohohohoooooyyyyy WHO IS THAT???"

Could anyone give me a plug-in to install with Ableton that I could play with my M-Audio axiom 71 that sounds like James' one ?
i want to love this album, but i just can't. I hate that feeling. And i absolutely adored james' first album. I cant even tell you how many times ive listened to it. I know artists have to evolve, but it just sucks when something so perfect has to change
Loved the first album. Completely adore the Post Tropical, the emotion in his voice and the all around feel of the album is just incredible!
Why don't they have a video playing rising water wtf
I was hoping he says, "and we go to Argentina"
This is immediately before their bus blew up on the way to vancouver that caused them to be really late in Edmonton and Aidan Knight had to shorten his set. It was a really great show though.
Does anybody know what guitar that is? It seems similar to a 1997 Gibson B.B. King Lucille ES-345 but I don't think it is.

They need to play rising water live or ima kill myself
Erick Olivera rising water wasn't released until later, on another record.
Where's Fergus
That's it I'm marrying him.
Will Ferrel gets down
how in the hell...
A lot like Bon Iver.
exactly like a skinnier irish bon iver with a different colourd beard and teeth
I love James Vincent McMorrow, but they need to find a new drummer. Gold was painful, and overall, he plays like a middle schooler.
I couldn't agree more! That snare in the first tune was frustrating..
nah...the drummer is great. Good timing and feel. You wanna know who needs a new drummer? The head and the heart.
stealingroses
The timing was great, the feel was ok, the tone was poor. With all the beautiful timbres coming from the vocals, the drum's tone became average and off.
i don't know about the drummer's abilities, but that snare! D:
Bro, this guy is likely playing /exactly/ what James wants him to. Tones, times, feels and all. Don't hate the player, hate the James ;) But actually.
Sorry dude, Bon Iver did it first.
