My father used to say that “It’s cheaper to go first class.” I realized what he meant when I grew up and got my own home; when you buy cheap products, you are always fixing or replacing them; so although it may cost you more money to begin with (for example the more expensive IKEA desk chair, vs the cheaper desk chair), if you buy quality items, they will last you a lot longer. So investing in good quality pays off in the end.

Exactly! I always say you get what you pay for…
i partially agree. nowadays if you buy stuff that's more expensive doesn't guarantee by default better longevity, just better brand/status/percieved value.
big companies literally have people with specialized degrees working in planned obolescence departments making sure that you'll need to replace the item in a certain time period so they can turn a profit again. more expensive stuff will be just designed to last a bit longer than cheaper one and that would be factored into the price so makes no difference.
it's mostly prevalent in tech and clothing, less so in furniture though. Want a good furniture go see your local carpenter.

The lamp and mirror are lovely and look perfect together in the hall.
I do have to chuckle about the bookcase. The reality of having a library is that no matter how much you swear you won't add to it, or limit it in some fashion, it always grows. :) High Five!
If you ever fancy a IKEA trip out of London, go to Southampton. Lovely store and walk across the bridge to the shopping centre with John Lewis and tons of great shops and restaurants.
Ahh I visited the Southampton store back in 2019 to help a friend move home there. It’s such a big store, Southampton was great ❤
Blast the stickers with a hairdryer. Heats the glue and usually comes right off with no residue.

Hey Luke, I can't believe that I'm the first to comment today, Feb. 22nd. I watched Mr. C's vlog last night and really enjoyed the trip through IKEA. I haven't been to my local one in years. It's in Renton Washington in the Seattle Metro area. I liked that sage green kitchen that Mr. C was looking at. I'm looking forward to watching your video now, but I had to get on the comments first! Happy shopping day!! I had to get back on after you mentioned the traffic. Our traffic in the entire Seattle Metro area, in ANY direction is a nightmare no matter what time of day, with or without construction. I grew up in Seattle and it has taken on a whole different vibe from when I was younger. I feel your traffic frustration!!

Good morning from a cold Sunny Northern California Luke. Enjoyed Iwan and now having my morning coffee with you.
Love the sage green kitchen, and really like the black and white tile floor and it’s so classic. My Nana and grand fathers home In Ipswich had that tile in their entry hallway. It’s just timeless.
Loved the tour around IKEA. The one I’d need to go to is miles away from me.
Loved you guys in Home Sense…I am so happy you bought the lamp and mirror. I loved the Dalmatian dog in the sale area… cute stuff .
I find most stickers are annoying tbh. I like the bigger mirror over the fireplace. Much better in the entryway. The lamp is perfect and the sideboard looks great .
Loved your soup and bead supper. I made a vegetable soup using the broth from boiling my roasted chicken carcass that was so tasty and have enough for the week. Perfect for the cold weather we are having this winter. I also bought a wonderful loaf of wheat bread at this polish shop that has all natural ingredients.

That is the absolute perfect place for the new mirror and lamp. I love it there. Also, a delicious looking dinner, especially those cookies.

Loved a trip to Ikea, the black and white floor is one of my favs, I have wanted to try that in our bathroom for a while. You can go to Ikea for a couple of things and leave with a car full!
Tip for removing sticky labels (advice from Antique dealer) spray just the label with furniture polish so it is thickly covered. Leave it for about 15-30 mins then it should just wipe off taking the glue with it 😊👍

Mirror looks great in the hall, was a bit small over the fireplace , I felt. Look forward to seeing the bookcase build, IKEA stuff goes together so well and for the price is sturdy.

I'm glad you swapped out the entry lamp! The previous one was rather dinky. The Ralph Lauren lamp is very smart and classic.

Hi Luke, good vlog, l usually have an Ikea visit once a year, that is usually enough for me, the lamp is great, we are having a new bedside table in a couple of weeks and l want a new lamp so will have to do T.K.Maxx by us, mirror looks great in the hall, Billy bookcases are great l have a small one in our spare bedroom but love it, soup and bread looked really nice, good luck with putting up the Billy bookcase x

Luke , I purchased from Amazon a set of connecting screw bolts to join two Billy bookcases together. I haven’t actually used them yet as I’m painting my bookshelves
I’m off to ikea tomorrow, the Gateshead one. I love ikea. Kalax units are on my list. You two are so much fun. X
I replaced all my solid kitchen units on one side for the open plan shelving. I can honestly say I would never go back to searching in bloody cupboards again. Seriously go for it, you will be smiling every time you cook 🤗
I day Ralph Lauren (not Laureen) because that's what they called him when he was in Friends. I love the lamp and the mirror, I'm after that mirror too and I saw that Ikea actually do them too 🖤
I love watching you go round Ikea as ive never been to one.The mirror looks much better near the door than over the fire and i wasn't sold on the lamp at first but now its on the sideboard i really like it. Soup looked delicious too x x

You HAD to buy that lamp, Luke!! I wasn't sure about that mirror until you hung it opposite the stained glass. That is exactly how a mirror should be placed - it reflects something else beautiful and bounces the light in your entryway. Well done!!

Love your vlogs together yes I too use those bags they are really good! I had an induction hob I my last bungalow it was OK but when we moved and did the kitchen went back to gas hob love it! I had that flooring in my porch always looked freash. So funny getting that Billy on the trolly Wow what a lamp! Use sticky stuff remover! Lovely mirror but not over the fireplace!
Hi Luke! We once got a shelf from Ikea and yes it did weigh a ton. My husband almost got a hernia it was so heavy. Lol 😄 I'm glad you stayed conservative and didn't go overboard with the shopping. That's hard to do in IKEA & Homesense. You have better self control than I do, but the lamp was a great find for sure! I'm surprised you also didn't get the tan leather foot stool. Luckily we now have an IKEA in Southampton, no more travelling to Croydon! We have a day out when visiting! I love their bedding and so much more! Sad they now do not stick their veg peelers, the ones I loved!

Hi Luke, I love yr new mirror and where you have hung it over the sideboard reflecting the stained glass window opposite. I think the sideboard would be great painted black an ebony vibe with a gold trim somewhere on it. I also think the lampshade would be better in a pale gold colour with some black detail on it, another art deco vibe. Its actually possible to paint a shade or you could source a wall paper to stick on. Have a look at Pinterest for ideas.

Welp, as you say 'Bob's your uncle, Fanny's your aunt', or 'there you are'... Well done, Luke, with the mirror and Ralph Lauren lamp! Both are stunning pieces of home decor. You have traditional taste which will serve you well as it never goes 'out of style/trend'. Lot's of love!

Loved watching your shopping trip. My first time here, but my last. That soup and bread looked so delicious! So glad you moved that round mirror as it looks great by the entrance. Many years ago my cousin shared a tip with me about lighter fluid. You can use it to get rid of bubble gum on clothes, shoes, your hair, etc. It will also get out ink and grease stains on clothes, even really old stains. But most importantly, it will remove the sticky left over from price tags so fast you will be amazed. A word of warning, though, it will dissolve rayon or silky clothing. It may also harm precious metals. So be cautious where you use it. I am never without a bottle in my cupboard.
I am a pen and paper person too! I am famous for my lists!! I like the strip lights for £4, I want some in my dresser, may have to find a store near me and go look see! I personally love a chequered black and white floor, very classic. The Mirror looks super cool in the hallway, love it there. That lamp was a hefty price though, nice an all but blimey it was spensivo!! However, sometimes paying that little extra for good quality and a well known designer, for what it is, it was a goood price. The main thing was your smile when buying it, that was priceless and so worth it just for the pleasure it clearly brought you. Wev'e all been there I think, I know I have from time to time! Thanks for letting us tag along!

Re the annoying sticker situation. I feel the same. I buy alot of high end makeup and when you have paid £25 for a lipstick and the lovely case is ruined by a nasty sticker is so annoying. Xx
