i dunno if i am the only one who finds this version of the song far more moving than the original, but i do. the slow, more ethereal feel of it fits better with the song in my opinion. really beautiful and haunting.

Right, alot of people on here hating this cover but apparently he approved of it.
Now this is how you cover a great song like "Cry". First you slow the tempo, then you sample some of the original lyrics and music and lower the pitch as well, then add female vocals. I've listened to other covers and nothing is close to this. Very nicely done.
In my opinion, the best way to cover a song is to make it your own, cuz it's next to impossible to duplicate the original. And if you don't nail it word for word note for note, IE "Easy" by Faith No More vs. "Easy" by Lionel Ritchie, people will find it inferior. However if you can reimagine the song and give it an inventive reinterpretation then you got something. And in that case, sometimes the cover becomes the definitive version. Examples include Love Song/311, Hurt/Johnny Cash, Blinded by the Light/Manfred Mann, Along the Watchtower/Jimmi Hendrix, and this song.
I don’t know ... I had never heard Faith No More’s version, and after checking it out, I gotta say I like it. And I never really cared for 311’s Love Song. I felt it was so faithful to the original that what was the point? Personal preference I guess, cuz I agree there’s no point in covering a song just to recreate the original. Shake it up. Except a live cover that’s not on album. I’d like it to be close enough that I can sing along

Anyone who does not like this cover also does not realize this song inspired the ENTIRE GAYNGS project. This song plus the time signature and GAYNGS created a whole album. Much credit where credit is due.
its funny to see bands like the Young Fathers, Tv on the radio gettng props but this album was overlooked since they are all along the same vein and equally epic.

I like this version better then the original. I also like the original. The slower tempo feels much more emotive and powerful to me.
That is why you can compare alot of celebrities to each other. I often end up confusing one for another because of the staggering amount of women and men who look similar. But, our society is undergoing a slight shift. It isn't necissarily new. Most likely introduced in the mid to late-60's.

Do I like this as much as the original? No, but, let's face it, that is a really hard act to follow.

Because of this, their is a growing variation among each other. But if anything, I do see you're point. I do recall in modeling school (>>') my teacher showed us a chart of the 6 diffierent face shapes.

Nope! It is exactly what they did in the original Godley and Creme video in 1985. MJ's Black and White came out in 1991.
