Cycads are closer to a pine tree than a palm, they are conifers. Meaning cone bearing. Although they appear to be in the palm or succulent families, they aren't..
Many people will be surprised when seeing a cycad bloom for the first time, depending on if its a male or female as they are vastly different. A male will produce a long pine cone looking structure that contains loads of pollen, a female will produce a group of deformed fuzzy fronds with a group of large seeds within.
