    The guitar in this is so 90s and indulgent. They scaled it back and didn't make a 90s album, they made a timeless one.

    The most interesting thing to me is how different Rivers' voice sounds. You can tell it's him especially in the quieter parts, but he almost has a metal or grunge (Chris Cornell) sound for most of it. It's interesting that he went with more of a "slacker" style (for lack of a better word) on their official releases. Just goes to show how versatile and talented he is as a singer.

    I just discovered this. Pretty cool, interesting. I think this version demonstrates what rivers has said in interviews that I have read that he is actually much more of a guitar player and soloist than what he shows on the first few albums. I am only familiar with the first 3 albums. He certainly shows his rock guitar skills much more on this version and his singing is a bit different. I think for whatever reason they decided to go with a cleaner and more simpler sound for the album. Guitar solos that are more melodic as opposed to bluesy rock licks, and cleaner vocal delivery with no yelling / screaming vocal break up. This version is cool to hear for the contrast.

    • @mellowmike4183
      @mellowmike4183 7 лет назад +5

      L0Kii Blue's baselines were all excellent because they were all written by Matt. Pretty sure most of Pinkerton's weren't. They are not as good because Rivers took control of the band and he wrote Pinkerton on his own without allowing the input of the rest of the band, which in my opinion, made Pinkerton's baselines and the composition in general not as good as Blue's.

    I love River's vocals in this.
    So much more heartfelt and sincere than in the album version. The vocals fit it so much more: it's a song about frustration and sorrow, so why shouldn't the vocals be a little rough and abrasive? That just makes them much more genuine.

      how much more skill? both are technically proficient at the same time lyrical. IMO i think blue album version is more timeless. More of a challenge to right a catchy solo, thats memorable, I.E. Brian May on Bohemian Rhapsody, versus Ygnwie Malmsteem "insert any song" still love Ygnwie dont get me wrong, but Van Halen is Van Halen cuz of the great songwriting, everything else is just sweet gravy

    i love this version so much more than the album version, literally from start to finish everything is better, rivers tone for the clean parts, the short licks he adds throughout the song(especially after first chorus), matt's harmonies are better, the snare sounds good, the guitar at the second chorus is better, the solo is MUCH more interesting and shows off his skill more, the variations he adds to the guitar part in the outro makes it feel so much more complete, and my favorite part is the chords being played at the bridge, idk why they took that out because i think it would fit in the album version just as well

    I think this version really shows off pat's abillity to drum a lot better. cooler fills and more heavy drums all around, i like the demo better.

    This is better than the released version.. at least the squeal in the chorus.. they should have kept it that way.

    For me, the absolute climax to the song is the guitar response to the vocal drowning in the vat. On this version (at 3:00, the guitar seems too interested in amusing itself. Glad that bit was changed.

    iron maiden has that problem were there solos end up sounding like some dude showing off on his guitar rather than making good music.
    But versions of the solo have so much emotion which why i go to weezer for these raw songs
