Chinese shadow puppetry has been a dramatic tradition in China since the Han Dynasty. It's a tricky art form and as the years have gone on, its masters have become fewer and fewer. Enter Montreal-based artist Annie Katsura Rollins, who traveled all the way to China to apprentice in the art.

I did a puppetry class for college and did shadow puppet presentation for Sleepy Hollow… going thru effort of creating every character, backdrop, choreography, and Music… was one of highlights of my life. I ABSOLUTELY ❤️❤️❤️ it!!! My fave form of puppetry! Such high regard for masters of this craft!! Can u message me about who to contact for apprenticeships?!

I believe this ancient art form can help preschoolers develop cognitive skills and build fine motor skills. For grade school children, it can be used to convey history, culture, folk tales, values, standards, and so much more. I will do all I can to preserve this art to young children in America. It's certainly a fun skill builder and I believe it can help children in many ways.

Careful, Indonesians might want to accuse China of "cultural theft". They're particularly touchy about their "wayang kulit". :D
