- Graeme Obree disqualified from the Individual Pursuit during the qualifying rounds of the World Championships. Why? Because the UCI outlawed his riding position. They had already spent half the day trying to outlaw his bike, which is why Obree is using the saddle from a 12-year old's mountain bike who was passing by.
Can't this guy catch a break???
All of this was dramatized in The Flying Scotsman, which you should see if you haven't already. - Спорт
The Scotsman wins in the end... Graeme Obree is one of my heroes and his persistence is what makes his story golden!
They did the same with Eddie the eagle tried everything to not have him succeed. Graeme was and still is a genius.
Eddie the Eagle was a terrible ski jumper, that was his whole persona. He came dead last in both events in the Olympics and it wasn't even close. He was disliked by some because they felt he wasn't good enough to be there, not because he was a threat. Meanwhile Obree was a world champion and world record holder, you just can't compare the two.
@@baconlight8430 Eddie the eagle passed all the qualifying tests but they kept changing the tests. He didn’t fit in with the elite the same way Graeme didn’t fit it in with the cycling elite. I’m not saying he was a star like Graeme.
The UCI didnt like Graeme as he didnt fit their model and was an innovator unlike them.
stupid how they took the individual pursuit from the Olympic schedule. It's great to watch. I don't like the silly keirin etc. I find the individual better to watch. It's a purer form of sport (if you take out the drugs). I hate how sport has to adapt to telly, to the lowest common denominator, just because the masses can't appreciate good sport.
I see he still has that kid's mountain bike seat still on the bike. 😂
Chest aside ! Today he could ride a girls bike and the same judges would compliment his being touched by his feminine side. inspirational !
Stupid rule! They don't want him to win.
